biography

Start

Bohemia Suburbana was formed in Guatemala in March 1992 by Juancarlos Barrios (guitar), José Pedro Mollinedo (drums), Giovanni Pinzon (vocals) and Juan Luis Lopera (bass, Colombia). In 1993 the band released their first album Sombras en el Jardín in audio cassette format under Primera Generación Records. At 19In 94 they were joined by Peruvian keyboardist and guitarist Alvaro Rodriguez. That same year, Primera Generación Records responded to the group’s growing popularity with the release of the CD of Sombras en El Jardin .

In 1994 Mollinedo left the band and Alex Lobos joined them. In 1995, Bohemia Suburbana traveled around Miami, Florida to record and produce their next album. The album Mil Palabras con sus dientes is released under the RadioVox label. The album contains 9 tracks0007 Yo te vi and Peces e iguanas . The popularity of the Bohemian suburb is rapidly growing outside of Guatemala and Central America. The song Peces e iguanas becomes a radio hit. Following the release of the Bohemia Suburbana album, they went on tour in Guatemala, Puerto Rico and the United States.

Alex Lobos left the band in 1996. In 1997, due to stress and poor management, the group stopped playing, each member devoted himself to his own projects. The band reunited at 1999 for a reunion with a concert. Meanwhile, RadioVox releases Remixes y la Emergencia de las circunstancias . The reunion concert will take place at vieja plaza de toros in Guatemala. After the success of this concert, the members decided to stay together and start new songs. With the proceeds from the concert, the band travels to Madrid, Spain, to spend time studying Spanish music. At this time, Juancarlos Barrios leaves the Bohemian suburbs, and the group returns to Guatemala.

Sub and Bohemia Suburbana

In 2001 Bohemia Suburbana released a new album called Sub . The album is self-produced and released under Strip Records. Alvaro Rodriguez becomes lead guitarist and the band recruits Rudy Betancourt on keyboards and rhythm guitar. For his part, Colombian Alejandro Duque becomes the drummer. Group tours to Guatemala, Central America and the USA. The band also recorded a music video for El Grito .

In March 2002, Bohemia Suburbana celebrated its 10th anniversary by playing a series of concerts in Guatemala. These concerts were recorded and released as a live album in 2003 as Aqui diez años…en vivo! on Strip Records. The album included new versions of the songs En el jardín and Bolsas de té . The band went on hiatus in 2004.

In May 2007, with the support of their producer and old friends, Bohemia Suburbana reunites in Miami, Florida. They devote a month to recording an album. In early 2008, the band played several shows in Puerto Rico.

Their fourth album, Bohemia Suburbana , was published in January 2010 by Warner Music Latina, and is named for «best rock album» in the Latin Grammys, but loses to Fuerza Natural by Gustavo Cerati.

Imaginaria Sonora

In 2015 Bohemia Suburbana reunite for the release of their fifth album. They caught the attention of producer Phil Wynoll, who was traveling around Guatemala to record a few tracks before inviting the band to Sonic Ranch Studios in Texas. Subsequently published Imaginaria Sonora .
