Lovely downtown Old San Juan rental

Fantastic place for those of us who don’t like staying in cookie-cutter hotels. It was on a somewhat busy street, but the apartment was very quiet and cozy. There is no city view from inside, but that’s ok — get out there and do some adventuring! :-)…

Countries and cities : Holidays on the island of Puerto Rico. Unique San Juan : Articles about tourism

Today’s San Juan is a large city, similar to some American metropolitan areas. But there are also notes of Spain, this is due to the four hundred years of possession of San Juan by the Spaniards. The city is clearly divided into old and new. The Old Town is a kind of museum «without a roof» with its unique architecture. Houses have been built in the new part, there is a resort area with a charming beach.

The city was built in the tropical zone. The annual temperature deviates by no more than 8-10 degrees from 22-32 degrees. The warmest months here are from May to October. Temperatures up to 35 degrees can be in early September. It is coldest of all (relatively, of course) in winter-spring. Precipitation can always fall, except for the period from January to March.

The nature of this city impresses with its representatives of flora and fauna. The ocean a few dozen meters away is teeming with bright tropical fish and cheerful crabs. The beautiful coral reefs near Puerto Rico are not yet affected by poachers, so they attract divers from all over the world.

Due to the constantly warm climate, evergreen bushes and trees grow. Thanks to them, you get the feeling that you are in a different world altogether. Rare animals live in the vicinity of Puerto Rico, probably the most amazing of which is the coca frog. This is a real symbol of the city. Koki are very hard to see in the wild, because adults do not grow more than 4-5 centimeters. But it’s very easy to hear frogs. Even a few animals can attract attention with heart-rending cries of «koki-i».

The Old Town is full of buildings from the New Age. Many are a true example of true Spanish style. Viejo San Juan, which is the name of the old part of this resort, is famous for its forts and other defensive fortresses, for example, San Cristobal, built in the middle of the 17th century.

The following urban structures and buildings deserve close attention: the Church built in honor of St. Joseph, built back in 1523, the Town Hall, the Historical Museum, which was previously a municipal prison, the city cemetery named after Mary Magdalene, the Tapia Theater, the barracks of the Spanish rule ( now it is the Ballach Museum), the Cathedral in honor of John the Baptist (right inside it is the tomb of the colonial founder of this colony — Leon), the Pigeon Park, which has the beautiful name «Park de la Palomas», the Dominican convent.

Among the entertainment and entertainment, one can single out establishments in the district of Condado. These are hotels and hotels, casinos, small shops, boutiques and restaurants. The best beach in San Juan is located here and is called «Condado Beach», it is definitely worth a visit for all fans of beach, passive and active recreation. Diverse sports facilities, as well as dance schools and a disco were built on its territory. The nearby lagoons of San Juan and Los Coroson are suitable for surfing and sea diving.

In the first half of the day, it is worth visiting the city’s museums of various themes: children’s museums, the local art museum and many others. But the most interesting thing is to see how rum is made at the Bacardi factory. Its second name is Rum Cathedral. Organized groups can get inside, learn the recipe for the delicious rum and buy it right away.

But in the evening the whole city is filled with music. And not with a roar from nightclubs, discos, but with classical melodies.

One cannot, of course, say with complete certainty that San Juan will be of interest to those who have already visited the cities of South America. And nature here is far from unique. But who knows, maybe this is the city where you definitely want to return again.

Juan — photo, attractions, weather, what to see in San Juan on the map
San Juan is a classic Spanish-language place name, which means that many cities around the world are called by this name in places where Spanish is spoken.

But perhaps the most famous San Juan is the capital, the largest and oldest city of the freely associated state of Puerto Rico. Fun fact: Due to the status of Puerto Rico under US administration, San Juan is also the oldest European city in the US. In general, in such a city there is something to see.

Several very remarkable historical buildings remained from the conquistadors in San Juan, but the attractions of this city are not limited to them: after all, San Juan is the most important port of the country, its cultural and financial center, as well as an arena for various important sports and various holidays and festivals . In addition, San Juan is the birthplace of such world stars as Ricky Martin, Benicio del Toro and others. There are many excellent museums and theatres. And of course, local nature (for example, coastal coral reefs and representatives of the marine fauna living in them) is an extremely important factor in the attractiveness of San Juan for tourists.

San Juan is located on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico south of the Atlantic Ocean. The city has a lot, an extraordinary amount of water, a significant part of the city’s water area consists of two natural lagoons Condado and San José and San Juan harbor.

The urban climate is tropical maritime, daytime temperature is around +27 degrees all year round (+25 in winter, +28 in summer).

Inspection of San Juan, of course, is worth starting with the old city — Viejo San Juan. This is a national historical area and the sights of this place are included in the list of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites. Viejo San Juan, with its buildings of the 16th-17th centuries, is a real treasure trove of colonial Spanish architecture. Attention is drawn to both defensive structures (San Felipe del Morro of the 16th century, San Cristobal of the 17th century and El Palacio de Santa Catalina), and religious ones (Dominican convent, Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Church of St. Joseph), and others such as the City Hall, the former home of Ponce de Leon, the Tapia Theatre, the former Spanish barracks (now there is the Ballach Museum), the Historical Museum in the building of the former municipal prison of La Princesa, the municipal cemetery of St. Mary Magdalene de Pazzi, Pigeon Park.

More modern sights of the city are the University of Puerto Rico, the Pink House, the Capitol. The local Museum of Art has the largest collection of contemporary art in the country (more than 1,100 works of art in the permanent exhibition, as well as numerous temporary exhibitions), the Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art introduces contemporary artists from Latin America and the Caribbean countries. Also in the capital there are such excellent museums as the Museum of Books, the Museum of the Americas, the National Gallery, the Pablo Casals Museum.

For nightlife and entertainment, you should go to the Condado area (the best city beach is also located there — Condado Beach), and for shopping — all in the same old city: on the streets of Fortaleza, San Francisco and Christ you will find a wide variety of souvenirs.

Tired of visiting historical buildings, museums and dancing, you can go to the beach: there is a good beach to the east of the San Cristobal fortress, there are also good beaches in the urban area — for example, Ocean Park, chosen by surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers.
