You may purchase optional CDW for an additional fee.  If you purchase CDW we agree, subject to the actions that invalidate CDW listed on the rental agreement, to contractually waive your responsibility for all or part of the cost of damage to, loss or theft of, the vehicle. DW does not apply to damage occurring in Mexico.

When deciding whether or not to purchase CDW, you may wish to check with your insurance representative or credit card company to determine whether, in the event of damage to, or theft of, vehicle, you have coverage or protection for such damage or theft and the amount of your deductible or out-of-pocket risk.

*For rentals originating in California- CDW ranges between 10. 99 USD and 500.00 USD per day depending on the type of vehicle rented.

  • Customers who reside in the United States, U. S. Territories, or Canada

Customers who reside in the U.S., U.S. Territories, or Canada must present a valid, unexpired government-issued Driver’s license which includes a photograph of the customer.  Digital licenses are not accepted.  The driver’s license must be valid for the entire rental period.

Members of the United States Armed Forces who are on active duty may present an expired home state license under the following conditions:

    • They also present an Active Military ID, and

    • They are in compliance with their military extension policy of the state which issued the license.  These policies vary by state and customers are encouraged to check with the appropriate department of motor vehicles for more information.

Customers travelling to the U.S. and Canada from other countries

It is important that customers check with the appropriate Department of Motor Vehicles in the States or Provinces in which they intend to travel to ensure compliance with their various licensing laws.   The following practices are used to ensure the customer is presenting a facially valid license at the time of rental.

Customers traveling to the United States and Canada from another country must present the following:

    • Their home country driver’s license that is valid, unexpired and includes a photograph, and

    • If the home country license is in a language other than English (or French, for rentals in Canada) and the letters are English (i.e. German, Spanish, etc.) an International Driver’s Permit is recommended, but not required, for translation purposes in addition to the home country license.

    • If the home country license is in a language other than English and the letters are not English (i.e.alphabet is not an extended Latin-based alphabet like German or Spanish but is Russian, Japanese, Arabic, etc.) an International Driver’s Permit is required.

    • If an International Driver’s permit cannot be obtained in the home country, another professional, type-written translation may be substituted.   In either case the home country license must also be presented.

    • Customers may not rent a vehicle solely with the International Driver’s Permit.  The International Driver’s Permit is a translation of the individual’s home country license and is not considered a license nor is it considered valid identification.

    • In some US locations, customers not holding a US driver’s license may be asked to provide additional documentation.  Examples of this may include a valid passport or, in certain states (AZ, CA, CO, NM, TX) a valid Mexican voter registration card and/or inbound and outbound travel documentation.

    • In some Canadian locations, customers not holding a Canadian driver’s license may be asked to provide additional valid government-issued documentation.  Examples of this may include a valid passport.

    Other requirements

    • Photocopies of Driver’s Licenses are not accepted

    • “Learner’s Permits” are not accepted.

    • Any license which, on its face, restricts the licensee to the use and operation of a vehicle equipped with a form of a breathalyzer apparatus is not accepted.

    • Temporary Driver’s Licenses may be refused if the renting location is unable to otherwise verify the customer’s identity or verify the authenticity of the temporary license.  Additional Government-issued identification may be required.

  • For rentals commencing on or after January 1, 2023, the PAI/PEC product will no longer be available for purchase and will not be included with your rental regardless if your reservation includes this optional product.  PEC only will be available for purchase for rentals commencing on or after January 1, 2023 for the charge shown at the time of the rental.  PEC is optional and not required in order to rent a vehicle.

Personal Accident Insurance/Personal Effects Coverage (PAI/PEC) is offered at the time of rental for an additional daily charge. If accepted, the PAI contained in the policy provides renter and renter’s passengers with accidental death, accident medical expenses and ambulance expense benefits. The PEC contained in the policy insures the personal effects of the renter, additional drivers or any member of the renter’s immediate family who permanently resides in the renter’s household and who is traveling with the renter against risks of loss or damage. Benefits are payable in addition to any other insurance coverage the renter or passengers may have. This is a summary only. PAI/PEC is subject to the provisions, limitations and exclusions of the PAI/PEC policy underwritten by Empire Fire and Marine Insurance Company in the United States. The purchase of PAI/PEC is optional and not required to rent a car. The coverage provided by PAI/PEC may duplicate the renter’s existing coverage. Alamo is not qualified to evaluate the adequacy of the renter’s existing coverage; therefore, the renter should examine his or her personal insurance policies or other sources of coverage that may duplicate the coverage provided by PAI/PEC.

Book Cheap Car Rentals in Puerto Rico Airport

San Juan is the birthplace of the piña colada—so when you’re here, you know you’re about to have a good time. Plus, you booked your car rental at the San Juan, Puerto Rico airport, and you’re ready to roll. You’ll find plenty of excitement in PR—now you just have to decide where you’ll steer yourself first.

With a mix of street art and old-world beauty and a lot pastel-and-cobble-street charm, San Juan will have your heart at first sightsee. Not sure where to get started? Here are some places to hit the gas and Puerto Ri-go ASAP.

San Juan-a See It All

Nearby Nature: To see the natural beauty of Puerto Rico, you don’t have to go far. The El Yunque Rain Forest is just 20 minutes from town and offers 28,000 acres of rainy jungles for a break from the beach. If you’d rather chase waterfalls, take the short trip to the Gozalandia Waterfall, where you can hike trails around the gorgeous falls. If you want to take a peek of the lay of the land through a window cave, Cueva Ventana is just 20 minutes away and gives you views of the Rio Grande de Arecibo valley from a limestone cliff. Or explore where the beach meets trees at the Mangrove National Forest, which is filled with rivers and lagoons with reptiles and birds.

Get Sandy: Rather stick to the beaches and sand that you’re used to? You’re in luck—there are plenty of places to soak up the surf and sun in San Juan. Isla Verde serves up long stretches of public beach with options to rent jet skis or go parasailing if you’re feeling fun. Condado Beach will give you Miami vibes under the Caribbean sun, and Atlantic Beach is super close to San Juan hotspot attractions. For a one-of-a-kind beach time, visit one of Puerto Rico’s bio bays—areas that contain micro-organisms that glow in the dark after they’re agitated and create a truly illuminating experience after dark. Not your typical day at the beach.

See Why It’s San Juan-derful Here: San Juan has some of the oldest forts in the Americas, and they’re well worth a visit. El Morro overlooks the San Juan Bay, and its sister fort, San Cristobal is located just a mile away. Plus, the walk between the two historical sites is seaside and beautiful. If you came to PR to party, a visit to La Placita is a must. By day, this “little market” is sells produce, but after the sun goes down, the bars and restaurants in the area create a party atmosphere (complete with reggaetón music and salsa dancing) that lasts until early morning.

Try Some Eats You Can’t Beat: San Juan has some fantastic local flavors you’ve got to sample while you’re in town. If you’re feeling sweaty, snack on piraguas—a crushed ice cone flavored with fruit syrups. Another local favorite is the tripleta sandwich, with marinated grilled cube steak, ham or pork, and chicken served on sweet potato bread. It’s a perfect option to eat on your stroll around town.
