Venezuela severed political and diplomatic relations with Colombia. This was stated by the legitimate President of the Bolivarian Republic, Nicolas Maduro.

“I have decided to cut off all political and diplomatic relations with the government of Colombia. I give your diplomatic representatives 24 hours to leave the country!” — TASS quotes him as saying.

The Colombian Foreign Ministry said that for security reasons they intend to recall the diplomats as soon as possible.

Earlier, Venezuela deployed troops on the border with Colombia. This was stated in the command of the Armed Forces of the Bolivarian Republic.

“Following the instructions of Commander-in-Chief Maduro, our commander Remijo Ceballos ordered the armed forces to quickly deploy on the border with Colombia in order to protect the peace and security of the people through the closure of the border,” the Venezuelan army command said on Twitter.

Note that on Saturday, February 23, it was intended to deliver American humanitarian aid from Colombia to Venezuela.

At the same time, Juan Guaido, who declared himself interim president of Venezuela, who is in Colombia, also arrived at the border. It is worth noting that he is subject to a ban on leaving the Bolivarian Republic. According to Guaido, the armed forces helped him to leave Venezuela.

National Security Adviser to the US President John Bolton said that Guaido is personally escorting one of the humanitarian cargoes to Venezuela.

“President Guaido is personally leading the effort to deliver aid to the Venezuelan people. The military has a chance to provide protection and help the people of Venezuela, not Maduro and a gang of thieves. Choose the path of democracy,” he wrote on Twitter.

Guaido later reported that humanitarian aid trucks were able to cross the border. According to VPI TV, a truck that entered Venezuela was burned.

Meanwhile, on the border with the Venezuelan side, clashes broke out between opposition supporters and the army. CNN broadcast footage shows how several protesters tried to disperse an empty bus and direct it towards law enforcement officers. Molotov cocktails were thrown at him.

However, the bus did not reach the barrier. It stopped and then caught fire.

In addition, RIA Novosti, citing its correspondent, reports that eight tons of humanitarian aid from the United States arrived in Brazil at the border with Venezuela. There are also clashes. According to human rights activists, four people were killed and 24 others were injured on the Venezuelan-Brazilian border.

The Guaido-appointed Venezuelan Ambassador to Brazil, Maria Teresa Belandria, stated that one of the trucks allegedly had already passed into the Bolivarian Republic.

“We can report that a humanitarian aid truck has passed the border and is now on the Venezuelan side. We have achieved this, this is a great victory, ”RIA Novosti quotes her as saying.

At the same time, the Brazilian TV channel Globo reports that a humanitarian aid truck could not cross the border and had to return.

Washington condemned the destruction of humanitarian aid. A corresponding statement was made by the head of the press service of the National Security Council of the White House, Garrett Markey.

“Maduro and his thugs decided to burn and destroy vital humanitarian aid meant for the people of Venezuela, instead of allowing Guaido and his team to deliver it from Colombia. Once again, Maduro proved his illegitimacy and inhumanity,” Marchi wrote on Twitter.

A ship with 250 tons of humanitarian aid was also sent to Venezuela from Puerto Rico. In response, Caracas sent six warships to intercept the ship, journalist Victor Amaya said.

«Attention, six ships of the Bolivarian Navy, including the F-22 frigate and two patrol boats, went to intercept a ship with humanitarian aid going to Venezuela from Puerto Rico,» TASS quotes him as saying.

“Participants of the Guarimb are now being established (riots. — RT ) and they will go to jail. This is a show to destroy our quiet life, ”Maduro said at a rally in support of the authorities in Caracas.

In addition, he stressed that under the guise of humanitarian aid, the United States is implementing a plan to invade Venezuela.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza said that the US and Colombian governments staged a propaganda show on the border with Venezuela, thereby violating the UN Charter.

“Through the propaganda show staged at the border, the US and Colombian governments have violated virtually every principle and purpose of the UN Charter. The global community is monitoring the situation and appropriate action will be taken within the UN,” he wrote on Twitter.

At the same time, both Maduro supporters and those who support the opposition are simultaneously demonstrating in the capital of the state, Caracas. It is reported that the legitimate president also took part in them.

«The situation is developing on a worrying trajectory»

Earlier in Russia, they warned that the attempt to smuggle humanitarian aid planned for February 23 is a provocation organized by the United States.

“The situation in Venezuela is developing on an alarming trajectory. On February 23, the opposition encouraged from Washington anticipates events that, to paraphrase the great Latin American Gabriel Garcia Marquez, could be called “a chronicle of a pre-announced provocation,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

Washington intends to use the very delivery of humanitarian aid to get a pretext for a military invasion of Venezuela, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted, commenting on a draft US resolution in the UN Security Council calling on Caracas to accept «humanitarian supplies.»

“The American draft resolution submitted to the UN Security Council, in fact, aims to cover up planned provocations with the delivery of humanitarian aid as a means of destabilizing the situation in Venezuela, and even obtaining a pretext for direct military intervention. As you understand, the Security Council will never make such a decision,” Lavrov said.

The Minister also noted that in the matter of humanitarian assistance, it is necessary to cooperate with the legitimate authorities and the UN representative in Venezuela.

    «Playing by the Americans»

The United States intends to provoke Maduro into aggressive actions in order to then use it against the Venezuelan president, said Nikolai Kalashnikov, deputy director of the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In an interview with RT, he noted that the United States deliberately put the authorities in a disadvantageous light.

“There is a threat that there will be arms supplies for the opposition, so the army is lined up on the border. This is how Maduro hopes to counteract the appearance of this humanitarian aid… When the declared humanitarian aid is rejected, it always causes a corresponding reaction: the «regime» does not want to alleviate the situation of the population,» the expert said.

At the same time, Washington intends to turn the military against the legitimate head of state, Eduard Lozansky, president of the American Institute in Moscow, is convinced.

“According to official statements by both the president and the secretary of state (Mike Pompeo. — RT ), they no longer recognize the current government, for them the president is Guaido,” he told RT. — The main emphasis is on the processing of the army, since it is unlikely that the US command will carry out an invasion with a direct military clash with the army that supports the president. This is an attempt to achieve their results through psychological warfare.

Previously, Caracas, for security reasons, decided to temporarily close three bridges through which it was possible to cross the Venezuelan-Colombian border.

“The Bolivarian government is informing the public that due to the Colombian government’s serious illegal threats against La Paz and Venezuelan sovereignty, a decision has been made to temporarily close the Simón Bolivar, Santander and Unión bridges,” wrote Vice President Delsey Rodriguez on his Twitter.

    «US Scenario»

Recall that on February 22, on the Venezuelan-Brazilian border, clashes took place between opposition supporters and the Venezuelan army. As a result, several people were injured and at least one was killed.

Arreaza noted that the injuries received by the victims in this incident do not correspond to the weapons that the Venezuelan army has.

“How easy it is, if there are several deaths near the border, to say that the Venezuelan army is to blame, that Maduro ordered the killing of his people.
