About Us | Sail Getaways
We’re All About Intimacy, Privacy & Small Groups
Born and raised in Fajardo, Robert is a third-generation seafaring captain. His father was a captain in the U.S. Coast Guard in the U.S. Virgin Islands for over 25 years. He grew up sailing in the Fajardo area and learning at a young age his mate duties working under his father during boat deliveries to the Caribbean from East Coast ports of the U.S.
He attended and graduated with high honors a high school marine program at the world-renowned Chapman School of Seamanship in Stuart, Florida where he also achieved his master merchant marine officer license when he was 18. Since the summer of 2005, Capt. Robert has been in charge of operations of Sail Getaways!
In his own words: “I love my job! There is no better feeling than seeing and listening to our happy guests after they conclude their adventure with our company and knowing our crew and service made the difference. As a bonus, we get to show our guests the natural beauty of Puerto Rico and its Spanish Virgin Islands. And because our operation uses smaller sized vessels, we have the opportunity of making sure our guests enjoy the vacation they deserve by providing one-to-one service!”

Our Values
Our Values
Sail Getaways is a family business committed to excellence by creating lifelong memories through personalized service delivered with Genuine Puerto Rican hospitality.
As stewards and sailors we perpetuate our Puerto Rican culture and protect our environment. We value each other and inspire integrity, innovation, and community.
Since our start, Safety, Service, and Quality have been of utmost importance to us and has influenced how we design and build our boats, craft our menus, hire and train our crew, and engage with our guests. We welcome you into our family and look forward to giving you the best day of your Puerto Rican vacation!
Environmental & Social Responsibility
Our business depends on a healthy environment to be successful. Our highest priority is the care and preservation of the reefs we explore and the beaches we visit. All of our tours are conducted in a manner that minimizes our impact on the environment. The sea life, flora, and fauna that we encounter in our excursions are shared with our guests in an ethical, respectful manner – we strive to leave every beach, reef, and trail that we explore, cleaner than when we found it.
We teach proper snorkeling etiquette such as the importance of not standing, walking on, or touching the coral reef, which can harm the fragile underwater ecosystems. Sail Getaways also volunteers in beach cleanups and maintaining trails. Whenever possible, we patronize local Puerto Rican businesses to meet our needs.
Our Cancellation Policy
- 14 days prior to the date of the trip there will be no penalty and you will receive a full refund.
- 13 days or less to date of trip: There will be a fee of 50% of your booking.
- 24 hours prior to trip: There will be a fee of 100% of your booking.
- No-shows and late arrival for the time the adventure is scheduled to begin will be charged the full price.
- Same day cancellations are considered a no-show and are non-refundable.
We reserve the right to cancel a public sail if a minimum number of reservations are not received. Customers will be given a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
All marine activities are subject to water conditions. Please call a day prior for an update on cancellations or change of destination due to water conditions as per the captain’s discretion. These decisions can be announced at check-in.
If we cancel a tour due to weather or sea conditions, you will not be charged. You will have the option to reschedule for the next available space. Our captains will make the final decision as to weather conditions. Remember, a few passing rain showers are normal in the tropics and rain is more likely in the center of the island and to the west. We monitor weather reports constantly, and especially the conditions on the east coast. Fajardo’s weather can differ greatly from the weather in San Juan or wherever you are located.
Please don’t make the mistake of deciding not to come if it’s raining where you are, as you will be charged if the trip goes out. If you have any questions about the weather conditions, please call us to be sure.
Passengers who are inebriated, hungover or who are not in conditions to board the boat, the Captain will be in his right to deny the passenger(s) to board the vessel.
Passengers that don’t meet the proper requirements will not be allowed to participate and the money will be non-refundable.
Due to the unique nature and small size of our groups, we are forced to remain firm about our cancellation policy. Consider that on the day of the excursion we will be there, on-site, waiting and ready to serve you. Regardless of cancellation reason, our time and fixed cost are already invested. We may have turned down other customers by holding your space.
Thank You For Your Understanding.

We were a group of 8 adults and 2 small children ( ages 4 and 1 ) and this was the perfect trip. The entire crew was excellent! The sailing was steady, the views beautiful, the lunch and drinks delicious, and the swimming and snorkeling in crystal clear turquoise waters amazing! There was plenty of time to enjoy each part of the trip, very fun and relaxing!
Sailing, swimming, and snorkeling fun!

We booked the Snorkel/BBQ/Sunset Sail on the” Zatara” directly with East Island Excursions due to a recommendation made by the owner of the house we were renting. Our party consisted of my wife and I, three 14 year old girls, and our 5 year old son. Everyone had a great time! The “Zatara”was well equipped and the maximum booking of 19 passengers was just right for the size of the boat. Everyone had space to relax on deck during the sailing portions of the trip. We sailed to an off-shore island that offered a lovely reef that was perfect for snorkeling. The crew was knowledgeable and attentive to our wants/needs. The open bar was well stocked, and the rum punch was tasty and refreshing.
Excellent Day Trip!
bigbrownpilot / Charlestown, Indiana
We enjoyed a day on the water on a catamaran with Captain Wilo and crew! What a wonderful crew. We never had to want for anything and they kept the liquid refreshments coming! We have a great BBQ lunch while at an island for some swimming and snorkeling. We cannot say enough good things about this day trip and would do it again on our next visit!
Great snorkeling trip!

This was our first family vacations together. We choose to do the Catamaran day trip to Culebra. It was the highlight of our 8 day vacation. The crew of of Alex, Willie, the captain and Coral were awesome. I had been to Culebra before but the other 11 had not and no one was disappointed. The food, crew and organization of the whole operation from booking to the Marina was professional and on schedule. We highly recommend East Island Excursions.

Took the Icacos Island tour with East Island Excursions. Loved every bit of the tour. Truly professional, friendly and helpful crew. The places we were taken to were exotic and I just loved it . My phone which had most of the pics and memories got drenched in the sea water and died and Levi one of the member of the crew member truly felt our anxiety took pictures for us and sent it later . Wonderful guy. I am not a swimmer but took the plunge with the help of Moises from the crew team . I would recommend East Island Excursions and Levi to anyone visiting Puerto Rico and taking the Island tours
Loved the Icacos Island tour with East Island Excursions

This excursion is well worth it. We had a great time on the Zatara, with an exceptional crew who delivered the best service, and took time to get to know us. This was aboard a 19 passenger catamaran that provided a more intimate experience than some of the larger boats. We had a great time snorkeling, then enjoyed time at the beach and a delicious BBQ lunch. Would definitely do it again! Thank you, East Island Excursions, for a great day on the sea!

It was naturally discovered by Christopher Columbus. Even today, despite independence from Britain, the head of state is the Queen of England, and the governor general is just an administrative function. We start our journey from English Harbor Bay — one of the marinas of the island, where a sailing catamaran is waiting for us, on which we will go around the Antigua and Barbuda archipelago.
English Harbor — a place where everything is close and clear to anyone who has ever sailed a yacht in Europe.
The entire coastline of the island is an endless series of snow-white beaches, very often cut off from the outside world by mangroves and tropical thickets. And although all the beaches on the island are the property of the state and are open to everyone, most of them are uninhabited and accessible only from the sea. Half Moon Bay is one such bay. Covered from the side of the earth by mountains, and from the side of the ocean by reefs, it is surprisingly beautiful in its desert silence. We are alone on this three-kilometer beach, we swim, run like children on the sand, collect nuts lying under our feet, and only the sun reminds us that we still need to successfully exit back along the fairway between the reefs. Having weighed anchor, we carefully move between the stones, and suddenly the forecaster notices against the background of the rocks pieces of the wooden skeleton of the ship, slightly protruding above sea level. From this it becomes a little uncomfortable and the further journey takes place in complete silence. The sun sets below the horizon, and we enter Falmouth Marina, where we have an overnight stay planned. Unlike English Harbor, Falmut marina is a modern luxury marina run by an Italian company. Accordingly, everything here is Italian fashionable, bright and modern. Because of this, modern motor mega yachts have chosen this marina for parking. nine0006
Local residents of Antigua can be roughly divided into three groups — the first is those who work in the white tourist industry. «Descendants of Gone with the Wind Mammy» — in pants with stripes, plump cheeks and always smiling with a snow-white smile, they are ready to grab your luggage and carry it in the hope of getting a tip. The second, no less numerous group, are fans of Bob Marley, smoking weed and listening to reggae. From the very morning, wearing funny multi-colored rastaman T-shirts and hats, with a pocket for laying dreadlocks, sticking a player in their ears, dancing along the sidewalks. Sometimes they stop, gather in groups of three or five people and dance joyfully, rolling cigarettes. «Do you have a paper?» they ask those passing by. Apparently, with the paper in Antigua tension. The third group is similar to the descendants of American basketball players. They walk around in knee-length T-shirts, talk rap with funny finger gestures, and gather in large groups in the haunts of St. John. All three groups of residents are perhaps united by one thing — the desire to help a white man who has lost his way on their island. There is no crime directed against the guests of the island in Antigua. nine0006
The capital of the island, Saint John, is a combination of traditional Latin American favelas with classic colonial architecture, a portside tourist area and many original corners with Carribean Haute Cousine. In the very center of Saint John, where the number of favelas is reduced to a minimum, there is a large shopping area, the city of Duty Free, where you can buy Colombian emeralds and diamonds, watches and jewelry of famous brands, at prices half the price of Russia. There are also cafes and restaurants, between which representatives of all three groups of the local population walk alone and in groups. nine0006
Unlike Antigua, which has about 40,000 inhabitants, Barbuda has just over a thousand inhabitants. The island is a sandy mountain in the ocean, where all life is concentrated in the capital of the island, the city of Cordigngton. In the north of the island there is a giant sandy spit — a beach, 12 kilometers long and 400 meters wide. This beach, as well as the frigate bird sanctuary located on it.
