Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola

Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola is a Catholic Jesuit college-preparatory school founded by the Society of Jesus in in 1952. The school was originally located in Santurce, but was moved to its current location by the Jesuit fathers in 1956. Colegio San Ignacio (CSI) is the only Jesuit high school in Puerto Rico. The San Juan Botanical Garden, also known as the Botanical Garden of the University of Puerto Rico, is located in the Caribbean city of San Juan, capital of Puerto Rico. Palacio de Santa Catalina in San Juan — Governor’s Residence

La Fortaleza Fortress is the oldest active residence and government house in the New World and is now the residence and office of the Governor of Puerto Rico. The structure of the structure is known as the Palacio de Santa Catalina or Palacio Santa Catalina.

Historical Facts

Since the 16th century, La Fortaleza has served as the uninterrupted place of residence of the governor, who represented the power of Spain here. Only in November 1822 the mansion was officially recognized as executive. In 1846, the fort underwent a massive renovation to transform the military building into a luxurious façade. More than 170 governors of the island have lived here and hosted prominent people such as President Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline, Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia. In October 1960, the Palacio de Santa Catalina was declared a United States National Historic Landmark. In 1983, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Architectural features

La Fortaleza was the first defensive fortification built in the strategic territory of the Caribbean Sea to protect the city and the bay from the attacks of French, Dutch and British corsairs. The defensive system of the city included: the fortresses of San Cristobal and Felipe del Morro. The construction was approved by Charles V to protect against attacks by Caribbean Indians.
