La bandera del municipio adapta el diseo del
escudo municipal. La diferencia es que. en sta se omiten las guajanas y los
fondos de plata y dorado del blason sustituidos por los colores blanco y
amarillo.

 


El escudo de Barceloneta deriva parte
de su simbologa del escudo de Barcelona, ciudad de la cual el
municipio recibe su nombre. La cruz llana en fondo lalta representa el
emblema tradicional del patrn de Catalua. Jorge Mrtir. Los palos
rojos ante el fondo dordo constituyen las armas de dicho principado.

Las guajanas blancas sobre el fondo
azul son smbolos de la poca caera del municipio. El azul de fondo
es alusivo al carcter portuario de la Barcelona catalana y a los mares
que separnan y a sta de su hermana puertorriquea.

Topografa
— Se  encuentra en la zona crsica, su relieve
incluye mogotes, sumideros y cuevas, pero su topografa es mayormente
llana. Las tierras de la costa son ocupadas, por la cinaga de
Tiburones.

Hidrografa- en su sistema de ros se encuentra el ro
Grande de Manat, que desemboca en el ocano Atlntico. Adems. la
cinaga Tiburones es el pantano herbceo ms extenso de la Isla y
el segundo del Caribe.

Clima— Su precipitacin anual es de alrededor de 53. 01
pulgadas y su temperatura promedio es de 77.8 grados F

Barceloneta tiene el complejo farmacutico ms grande del
mundo. Adems el Municipio cuenta con varias fabricas dedicadas a la
elaboracin de textles, alimentos. qumicos, plsticos,
instrumentos  cientficos y electrnicos y equipos de
comunicacin.

HISTORIA

La Ciudad Industrial

Es uno de los timos municipios establecidos durante el Gobierno
espaol, Barceloneta fue fundado el 1 de julio de 1881. Su nombre
proviene de la ciudad de Barcelona ( Espaa), lugar donde naci su
fundador, don Bonocio Lenza Feli.

A los 13 aos de su fundacin, el municipio haba logrado un
sorprendente desarrollo industrial y agrcola .Para 1894 contaba
con tres haciendas caeras ,93 estancias de caf, y 100 de frutos
menores. Cuatro aos despus, el 12 de octubre de 1898 Barceloneta
fue invadido por el ejrcito estadounidense.

En 1899 la Ciudad Industrial solicit una anexin al
municipio de Manat. Para que el tema fuera resuelto
democrticamente, ambos municipios acordaron llevar a cabo una
consulta electoral que fue pautada para el 14 de agosto de 1899 en
Mant, para el da siguiente en Barceloneta. Sinembargo. el
proceso no pudo llevarse a cabo, ya que el 8 de agosto de ese ao.
Puerto Rico sufri el embate de uno de los peores huracanes en su
historia San Ciriaco.

Al ao siguiente el general Davis, gobernador militar de la
Isla, orden la anexin de Barceloneta a Manat. Once aos ms
tarde, la legislatura islea reinstal a Barceloneta como
municipio.

Luego del cierre de la central azucarera Plazuela en 1963,
comenzaron a cultivarse pias y otros frutos
menores.Lamentablemente, ninguno de estos esfuerzos lograron
levantar la economa barcelonetence. No fue hasta que, a comienzos
de la dcada de os 70 cuando comenz a desarrollarse, gracias al
establecimiento de farmacuticas, donde se contrataron miles de
pesonas, logrando estabilizar la economia del municipio.

Se le conoce como la Ciudad Industrial, Ciudad de las
Pias. el Pueblo de los Indios y el Pueblo de Sixto Escobar.

Sus lmites territoriales con Arecibo no se definieron hasta
1897. ms de una dcada de su fundacin

PUERTO RICO ISLA DEL ENCANTO

El escudo y la bandera del municipio fueron adoptados
el 31 de mayo de 1979. Los dise
el Lic. Roberto Beascoechea Lota, Consultor Especial en
Asuntos Herldicos. La preparacin y aprobacin de
estos smbolos se hizo posible gracias a los esfuerzos
realizados por el Lic. Francisco Daz Marchand,
Presidente de la Comisin de Asuntos Histricos del
Centro Cultural de Barceloneta.
DESCRIPCION HERALDICA
Escudo cuartelado en cruz; (1) y (4) en campo de plata una cruz Ilana de gules; partido de
oro con dos palos de gules, y (2) y (3), de azul, con tres flores de guajana, de plata. Al
timbre, corona mural de plata de tres torres, mamposteada de sable y adjurada de gules.
SIMBOLISMO
Los cuarteles primero y cuarto del escudo reproducen los del blasn de Barcelona, capital
del antiguo principado de Catalua, con la variante de que se colocan aqu en par y no
cuartelados en cruz como aparecen en el escudo de la ciudad Condal. Estos cuarteles
estn organizados de la cruz roja en campo de plata, que es tradicional emblema de San
Jorge Mrtir, patrn de Catalua, y de los cuatro palos rojos sobre campo de oro, que
constituyen las armas del principado. Como en las representaciones tradicionales del
escudo de Barcelona y de cuerdo con una antigua prctica herldica, el blasn de
Catalua se representa aqu dividido, es decir, reducido a aproximadamente su mitad en
este caso, en sentido vertical manifestndose en l solamente dos de sus cuatro palos o
bastones. Las guajanas simbolizan la caa de azcar, que por muchos aos fue el
principal producto agrcola de Barceloneta, y que durante tanto tiempo fueron ornamento
de las Ilanuras costeras de Puerto Rico, como lo es la regin en que asienta el pueblo. El
color azul que les sirve de campo o fondo alude al carcter portuario de la Barceloneta
catalana y los mares que de la misma separan las playas de su homnima
puertorriquea.

Algunos Datos

El Municipio de Barceloneta fu uno de los ltimos pueblos fundados por el
gobierno espaol y comenz a funcionar efectivamente el da 22 de septiembre
de 1881, tan pronto fue ocupado el cargo que ofreca la Secretara del mismo, cuya
vacante haba sido anunciada en La Gaceta, rgano oficial del gobierno en aquella poca.
Trece aos despus de su fundacin, tena un gran desarrollo agrcola e industrial. Para
este tiempo contaba con 3 haciendas de caa de azcar, 93 estancias de caf y 100 de
frutos menores.

Para el 1897 el gobernador general de Puerto Rico orden se hiciera el deslinde de Barceloneta
con la juridiccin de Arecibo
Barceloneta fue ocupada por el ejrcito norteamericano el da 12 de octubre de
1898.
Para los comienzos de 1899 el municipio de Barceloneta solicit su anexin al de Manat.
El gobierno militar de entonces, resolvi Ilevar esta situacin a votaciones para que los
vecinos decidieran. El sufragio se anunci para el 15 de agosto en Barceloneta y el 14 del
mismo mes en Manat.

Fue imposible la celebracin de las votaciones, pues el 8 de agosto el cicln San Ciriaco
azotaba con furia la Isla. As, pues, el plebiscito no se Ilev a cabo y una orden del General
Davis anex a Barceloneta al municipio de Manat, en el ao 1900.
De esta forma, quedaba Barceloneta convertido oficialmente en un barrio de Manat,
hasta que la Legislatura, mediante una ley al efecto, le restituy en 1911 las prerrogativas
que en 1881 el General Despujols le haba concedido.

La reinstalacin del pueblo de Barceloneta, como municipalidad separada de Manat, se
debi a las diligencias de cinco hombres ilustres que formaron una Junta Libertaria para
esos efectos. Fueron ellos: Ramn Marchand Muoz, Rafael Marchand Rodrguez, Jos
Sotomayor Hernndez, Jess Acevedo Ruiz y Jos Guerrero Quintero.
En el ao 1971, una gran parte del barrio Florida Adentro se constituy en el municipio de
Florida.

Guaynabo ( Spanish pronunciation: [ɡwajˈnaβo]) is a municipality in the northern part of Puerto Rico, located on the northern coast of the island, north of Aguas Buenas, south of Cataño, East of Bayamón, and west of San Juan. Guaynabo is spread over 9 barrios and Guaynabo-Pueblo (business district and administrative center of the suburbs).

Guaynabo, together with its neighbors San Juan and the municipalities of Bayamón, Carolina, Cataño, Trujillo Alto, and Toa Baja, is considered to be part of the San Juan metropolitan area . It is also part of the larger San Juan Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area, (the largest MSA in Puerto Rico).

    History

    The municipality of Guaynabo was founded in 1769 by Pedro R. Davila (P.R.) after a struggle to separate from the municipality of Bayamón. Previously, the municipality was known as «Buinabo», meaning in Taíno «Aquí hay otro lugar de agua dulce» or «Here is another place with fresh water».

    Sports

    Old Guaynabo BSN team, Guaynabo Mets, won national championships in 1980, 1982 and 1989 under the command of a player whom the Mario Morales Colosseum was named after, Mario «Quixote» Morales. The Conquistadors de Guaynabo, or Guaynabo Conquistadores, are the Guaynabo Mets replacement and still play in the Colosseum Mario Morales. Metz de Guaynabo has a local women’s volleyball team that plays in the LVSF, or Major League Femenina. They haven’t won a single championship yet. They also play Mario Morales’ Colosseum. Guaynabo Fluminense is a Guaynabo professional football team that plays in the Puerto Rico Football League. The league started in 2008 and Guaynabo is currently ranked 4th in the league. Guaynabo Fluminense play their games at José Bonano Stadium, which was originally designed for baseball but became a football arena after the Puerto Rico Baseball League was canceled for the 2008 season. It was the same year that the Puerto Rico Football League started happening. In season 200 [33]

    Some areas of the city belong to Puerto Rico Senatorial District I while others belong to Puerto Rico Senatorial District II. Both districts are represented by two senators. In 2016, Henry Neumann and Miguel Romero were elected District I Senators, and Migdalia Padilla and Carmelo Ríos have been District II Senators since they were elected in 2004. [34]

    Medical Facilities

    Guaynabo Occupational Hospital Located on Feliz Rincón Avenue (formerly Las Cumbres Avenue), this is the newest hospital infrastructure built in Puerto Rico. Guaynabo is the only city in Puerto Rico that has a hospital specialized in advanced vascular surgery. [36] Some of the first and newest procedures performed in Puerto Rico in 2009 were performed at Guaynabo Occupational Hospital, including the first AxiaLIF operation for lumbar fusion. [37]
