Shopping and more
If you are into shopping, or if the weather is not that good, Plaza Las Americas will supply everyone in your family with lots of fun. It is the largest mall in the Caribbean. People come from other Caribbean islands just to shop here! The mall is located in the Hato Rey zone of San Juan. There are about 300 stores, including the anchor stores of JC Penney, Macy’s, and Sears. There are many other stores, most of which you will find in any mall in the mainland US (like Gap, Banana Republic, Forever 21) There is a movie theater (in PR some movies are in Spanish and other are in English with Spanish subtitles) . They also hqve designers stores (Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors).
If you are hungry, there are loads of budget friendly restaurants like Sizzler’s, Macaroni and Grill, Chili’s, and a large food court on the third floor.
Above the Grand Court, by the JC Penney entrance, there’s another 3rd floor section with a Farmer’s Market, a local Artisan Fair that happens here every weekend and a bookshop.

Beautiful store with even kinder people
Stopped by the poets passage when I noticed a beautiful poem in the window that drew me in. The store owner wasn’t there but her husband — a painter — was there and he was very kind. The cashier was also very sweet and answered all of our questions. She even mentioned that they do poetry night on Tuesday but unfortunately we missed the opportunity to attend. Recommend that you stop by to give this place a look.

A fabulous, large mall with all the bougie fixings.
In short, its a fabulous, large mall with all the bougie fixings. If you want to see fancy cars, just sit outside and watch the valets do their thing. If you’re hungry there are several places to grab a bit. Inside is clean and cool, loved seeing local artwork on display. And naturally stores upon stores selling all your hearts desires.

Such a treasure!
One of the other reviewers said it best, Sr. Lind IS the art. His stories come across so beautifully in his work and through his stories. We thoroughly appreciated him taking us through the studio, showing his work, and hesring the thought process and history behind each piece. He is naturally gifted. We bought some prints that he graciously signed.
We were directed from our visit to the Ayala Family Home across the street. It was a beautiful part.of this families’ calling to preserve the history in Loíza.

Lovely family-run gallery and museum showcasing Botello’s work
Our visit to Galeria Botello was an unexpected highlight of our stay in Old San Juan! We lingered over Angel Botello’s sculptures, drawings and paintings in the gallery inspired by his time in Haiti and by his children. To our delight, we met his granddaughter who gave us a tour of the family home upstairs, now serving as a museum housing the artist’s private collection. It was unbelievably gorgeous, all the bearings of an artist’s keen eye for architectural details that uniquely complement his collection of art and santos.
We’d highly recommend stopping here and the Museo de Arte (which has a collection of Botello’s work) if you appreciate art and historic architecture.

Small market with fresh produce
This small market in the Río Piedras neighborhood of San Juan has several vendors selling fresh produce, and a food court selling various tasty meals. The street leading up to this market has a lot of stores selling clothing, phones, and trinkets. There’s music in the evenings, which is fun and adds to the festive vibe. This market is close to the University of Puerto Rico and isn’t really aimed at tourists — if you want a larger shopping area, go to the Plaza las Américas.

Small park/garden
So the thing to know is that this is NOT a gallery, but a small city park with some statues and a small fountain. It is right off Paseo de la Princesa and is next to a kids park (a playground sort of). It is very pretty and is a nice place to sit for a few minutes.

Great Family Fun Stop
Driving from Rio Grande to San Juan we decided to stop here recommended by a family member who thought will be ideal for family with pre-teens kids. It surely did not disappointed.
This place is a must see and fun for all family. Its great place to finish up some shopping while having fun in a family atmosphere. My daughter enjoyed the rope course and ziplining; and my son loved the Go Karts rides. We originally thought spending about two hours there and having so much fun ended up spending four and eating after at their food court. The food court has great choices (and there are food trucks choices available outside) There’s some incredible artwork around which is my understanding was made from recycle cars. This place is a must see! Go check it out!

“Blue Chip Gallery”
As suggested in the NY mag places to visit in PR, which called it a Blue Chip Gallery. We made the appointment.
Walter Otero himself greeted us. Paintings are most from Caribbean artists who are well known internationally. Arnaldo Roche, Carlos Betancourt, Angel Otero. We purchased and was shipped international. A Must go, if you are looking to take home an sure investment art piece.

Ok for quick visit or to get in from a rainy day
Mall is nothing like malls where I’m from (Chicago). Stores are very few and all seem to have similar items. One store I found unique that I haven’t seen here is the shoe store. It’s just bins and bins of shoes for all sizes. The best part was the selection of teeny baby sandals. Can’t find that here in Chicago.
Other than that and a waffle restaurant we visted there, the mall was eh. I wanted to find souvenirs and there were none.

My savior!
I love the 21st century! We used to spend hundreds of dollars on internet roaming on every trip abroad. And now you can install the application, get an eSIM and use the Internet from local operators in a matter of minutes for the price of two cups of coffee! I enjoyed flipping through the dating app in Santo Domingo while all the tourists around were looking for free Wi-Fi.
International coverage
Stay connected in over 190 countries and regions around the world
Simply fantastic!
Over the past few years, I have visited 45 countries. Of all the options that I tried, Airalo turned out to be the simplest, most useful and profitable solution. I no longer need to look for local SIM cards and change numbers, and then warn relatives and friends who might need me while I’m abroad. I have very high requirements for such services, but AIRALO even exceeds my expectations!
Accessible and transparent service
No hidden fees, full prepayment
Incredibly useful app for travelers!
