Carlos Rosario Beach and Playa Tamarindo, Isla Culebra

If you are camping on Flamenco, you may have heard of a couple of nearby beaches where many visitors go to snorkel or get away from some of the crowds on Flamenco beach. One of these beaches is called Carlos Rosario beach, and it is a great place to spend a day if you looking for a calmer place or if you want to experience some of the best snorkeling on the island.

Carlos Rosario beach can be reached via a trail that begins at the corner far corner of the parking lot, opposite of the area where taxis pick up and drop people off. The trail starts at a fence that is chained yet open enough for a person to easily slip through. As the camping administrator says, pay no attention to the «warning» sign that is on the gate. It is perfectly safe to take the trail through the forest to the beaches that lie beyond the hill.

Once you slip through the fence you will notice that the trail continues on, gradually rising in elevation. There is a small hill that you will climb. At the top you will be presented with an amazing view of the Atlantic ocean as well as some islands and rock outcroppings in the distance. Once you have made it here, the rest of the journey is downhill.

At the bottom you are presented with two options. The first is Playa Tamarindo. This beach is smaller than Carlos Rosario and is a nice place to relax. Although there are no nude beaches on Culebra, sometimes people use the private beach area that is beyond the rocks at the end of Playa Tamarindo as a nude beach area. If you continue past the rocks you will find another private beach area that is rarely visited.

Carlos Rosario on Isla Culebra offers amazing snorkeling.

If you continue along the main path ignoring Playa Tamarindo, you will reach the end of the trail at Carlos Rosario Beach. This is one of the best places to snorkel on the island. You can rent snorkeling equipment for $10 a day from some of the taxis. Tent City also rents out snorkel equipment at the campsite. Ask for prices.

Playa Tamarindo can get quite busy as boat tours oftentimes take people to this beach. The best snorkeling is found at the left side of the beach, near the beginning of the trail. Be careful to not touch or step on the reef and do not touch any of the fish. Stone Fish and Cone Shells can be deadly. Also be on the lookout for Sea Urchins, which can turn a pleasant day at the beach into a painful experience.

There are no facilities at either of these beaches. They are, however, a great place to bring a small picnic lunch or to watch the sunset. There are few places better to watch the sun set than on Carlos Rosario Beach.

Forbes Traveler magazine has compiled a list of the world’s best diving sites. In the first place in the list were the islands of Phi Phi (Phi Phi, Phi Phi, Thailand). These islands are two limestone monoliths, one of which, Phi Phi Don, continues to grow. The best dive site is near Hing Klang reef. Soft corals and colorful tropical fish are abundant here.

In second place is the resort area of Safaga in Egypt, which includes several sandy beaches located along the shores of a large bay with many coral reefs. For diving, divers are taken to a sandy island, located in the middle of a quiet Soma Bay, writes VIP-tourism.ru. Here, on a shallow reef, lion and clown fish are the most common, but there are also moray eels and anemone fish, cuttlefish and octopus.

Panama’s San Blas Islands, also known as Cuna Yala, continue the list of top dive sites. The San Blas reefs are striking in their length, reaching a length of 320 kilometers. Here, divers are waiting for diving in the neighborhood with numerous corals and sponges. In the western part of the archipelago there are uninhabited islands where you can see not only corals, but also sunken ships.

Also on the list is Culebra Island (Puerto Rico). Flamenco Beach, located on the northern coast of Culebra, the largest island in the entire archipelago of the Virgin Islands, is well known to tourists. It is a traditional camping and party destination and just 20 minutes away is the secluded beach of Carlos Rosario, one of the most popular diving spots in the Caribbean. While diving here you can see a lot of corals and reef fish.

In the waters of Salt Cay (Turks and Caicos Islands), divers will see typical inhabitants of these places: nurse sharks, stingrays and antler-shaped coral reef colonies. From the nearest uninhabited islets, you can watch schools of fish; here, at a depth of 12 meters, lies the frigate of the British Royal Navy Endymion, crashed into a coral reef. Winter provides divers with an additional opportunity to swim among humpback whales.

The sixth place in the list of the best places for diving was taken by Saint John Island (Virgin Islands, USA). Its coastline is rich in wave-protected dive sites. Since almost the entire territory of the island is occupied by a national park, there are not many sedimentary rocks that damage corals and make the water cloudy. Beginners can recommend Trunk Bay, where the most interesting places for diving are indicated additionally. More experienced divers will prefer Leinster and Haulover bays, which are easily accessible from the shore.

One of the best diving spots in Hawaii is the waters off the Makaha beaches, which are located on the lee side of Oahu. Visibility here reaches 30 meters or more. Whether diving near the beach or on one of the remote reefs, divers will encounter numerous fish, sponges, corals, and if you’re lucky, eagle rays and green sea turtles weighing up to 180 kilograms. However, during the winter, swimming and diving off the beaches of Makaha can be hampered by strong surf.

An exciting program for divers is offered by the Indonesian national marine park Bunaken, located in the north of the island of Sulawesi. It was founded at 1991 to protect vast areas of intact coral reefs; 97% of its territory is occupied by water spaces. The park is highly biodiverse, with room for corals, invertebrates and over 2,500 species of fish.

Also on the Forbes Traveler list are dive sites such as the Great Barrier Reef (Australia), Rurutu Island in French Polynesia, the underwater cave systems of Florida, the Fiji Islands and the Bimini Islands.
