Make a stop in Barcenoleta for a fun outlet experience! The list of stores is pretty much identical to the fashion outlets I have visited in Las Vegas and Southern California: Nike, Coach, Michael Kors, Disney, Aldo etc. plus some local Puerto Rican stores such as Aliss. There also is a movie theater (Caribbean Cinemas) and some Restaurants such Metropol (Cuban/Puerto Rican) and Chilis… A fun place to go and spend some time with your family and friends to shop, eat, catch a movie and walk around.

Mar Chiquita Beach is a paradise! The water has a turquoise color and the sand is beautiful. There are several small food trucks to purchase drinks and food.
Many families go there with their grills and coolers and spend the day there. There’s plenty of shade and parking.
Wonderful place to spend a day!

This cave on the water along the rugged coast in Arecibo contains a number of Taino petroglyphs. The views of the north coast are amazing.

When you think of a cave, you think of a wet hole in the ground, inhabited by bats, and if nothing else, batman. Nothing special, but can be cool on occasion. I am fairly confident this cave with exceed these expectations.
Finding this location isn’t too difficult. We read that parking isn’t great in the area and you should pay to park since the streets are narrow. We didn’t realize beforehand you could simply park onsite. There is a sign indicting the entrance to the cave. From what I understand, this is private property, so they can charge what they want for parking — depending on how they feel that day. There seemed to be a lot of space, and I believe we ended up paying $5 or $10 for us to park and see the cave (2 people).
The cave can be a little tricky to find once you arrive, as once you get into the area, there are no signs to guide you. There is however, a path to follow. Once you reach the end of the path you come to a lava field and ocean. There is a nice arc rock on the water if you go right (great for taking pics) but the actual cave is to the left. It doesn’t appear to be there as the whole area is relatively flat. You actually have to climb down a series of natural stairs to find a ladder to get into the cave. The ladder is held on by a rope tied to a rock (felt sturdy), but wouldn’t be good for the faint of heart.
The caves themselves are amazing! Lots of Petroglyphs. I’ve never seen anything like it. It was truly amazing. Touching and seeing history placed there from the Taino Indians was unreal. There are several sections to the cave. Most of the cave floor is sand but has sections where you need to cross water. The cave has parts where it’s open to the air above, so you never felt like it was indeed a cave.
I would recommend this anyone going to Puerto Rico. There really is nothing bad I can say and was an experience of a life time. I read that other people took a tour. Didn’t even know this was an option and we went around ourselves which I enjoyed. We took our time and had a great visit!

We spent four days with Gabriel. All of our arrangement for the trip were made over the internet, which worked well. We told Gabriel that we were primarily interested in seeing the endemics and he planned the trip around that, making all of the arrangements. He picked us up at our hotel exactly on time. Gabriel is an excellent birder. He knows where to find the different species and can find them by their songs; and he has an excellent eye. He took us to almost all of the various habitats. It is obvious that Gabriel also thoroughly enjoys birding, getting so excited at one of the birds we saw that he called other birders to tell them about the bird and where to find it. The two places we stayed at night were interesting and comfortable. During the day, we would grab a meal at a local Puerto Rican fast food restaurant/cafeteria, so our birding time was not curtailed by long breaks. Because we went all over the island, there was a lot of driving time, but it was also fun to see so much of the island. We highly recommend Gabriel.

Follow the historical trajectory of Hacienda La Esperanza Nature Reserve in Manati, one of Puerto Rico’s most prosperous sugar plantations during the 19th Century, where the main driving force behind sugar production was slavery. During this tour, you will visit the different structures that make up La Esperanza’s Historical Site, including the Sugar Mill and its unique 1861 West Point Foundry steam engine. I live in the area if you go a little farther after the Hacienda you will find some of the most pristine Beaches in the Islands if you continue passing the Hacienda you will find a reserve and go forward and you will find some beautiful untouched Beach

We visited Barceloneta specifically to gather ancestry records regarding my grandfather’s side of the family. My mother was happy to see her birthplace. It has changed a lot over the years, but it’s still a quaint little town. The staff at the City Hall were very welcoming and offered lots of assistance. We were directed to the Vital Registry Office to fill out paperwork so that the information could be mailed to us. It was right there near the plaza. Other than that, we took 684 to 681 for a nice scenic drive along the coastline. We got a wonderful view of the Barceloneta coast as we were headed to Arecibo. I highly recommend this route.

This was a nice afternoon spent. A little tricky to find some make sure you do your homework before venturing out. The entrance has several paths that lead to several Beaches, it was fun exploring! You must park in left side of street or you will get ticketed! Then you must walk a bit before reaching the beach. This had lovely views, rough waters and rougher sand. But of course we went for the caves! Please take warning, depending on time of year it can be very rough! You can carefully step into the caves, the view on other side is amazing. But not for children to explore into! There are sea urchins in water, lots of rocks and deep areas that sink down if you don’t watch your step! Stay on the flat smooth rocks and ok to take a quick peak before large waves come crashing through!
