San Juan Hills Men’s Golf Club – San Juan Capistrano

Next Saturday tournament is the «Four Club» set for November 12th

On Saturday, November 12th is the annual “Four Club” tournament. As the tournament title states, you will only be allowed 4 clubs. So grab your best/favorite 4 sticks and leave the rest in the trunk of your car. The format is an individual net stroke play event played from the white tees. If you have ever had the desire to walk 18 holes this would be a great round to do so given your golf bag will be so light!!!

2022 Member/Member Champs

Congratulations to the team of Mark Dawson and Walter Knack who were victorious as the 2022 Member/Member champs. They shot a 2 day score of 208 which was enough for a 1 stroke victory. The team of Kyle Cullum and Todd Knight finished in 2nd place with a score of 209. Coming in 3rd place with a score of 210 was the team of Mike Neace and Tim Sweeny

Making our Saturday tournaments a success!!

Wednesday and Saturday tournament play protocol

When you have signed up for a Wednesday or Saturday Men’s Club golf tournament, here is a guideline for streamlining the process:

On arrival:

Please go to the tournament check-in table which is usually located inside the restaurant. There you will pay for your entry fee and have the option of buying into the gross skins, net skins and Hole in One pots. These are individual pots and they are optional. At check in and if needed, they will have the tournament format sheet or notify you of any course conditions that you need to be aware of. Please treat Reni, Sandi and Marci like queens, as they are an enormous help in making our tournaments so successful!
Next, head to the Pro Shop and pay for you green fees. Also, check to make sure they are on time.
Plan to give yourself at least 30 minutes to take care of tournament check-in and green fees.
Driving range, you can pull in the range parking lot and hit balls before checking-in or grab a cart after your tournament check-in/green fees are paid and head over and hit balls. Either way, plan accordingly.

On the course:

It is extremely important that you keep pace with the group in FRONT of you and not behind you!!! The course management is adament that 18 holes of play is accomplished in 4 1/2 hours or less. So please play ready golf including moving on to the next tee box before entering scores on the scorecard.
Fill your divots and repair your ball marks on the greens. It is our responsibility to help keep the course in good condition, so when you are filling in your divot or repairing your ball mark, don’t be shy about filling or repairing another one you see.

After the round:

Each foursome will have an offical scorecard. In addition, another scorecard should also be keep, that way scores can be double checked within the group. On the 10th tee box confirm the front nine scores match on both scorecard, this will speed up the process of totaling the final scores after play has been completed. Also, if there is a game going on within the group, please do not use the offical scorecard for this. Lastly, before dropping the offical scorecard off at the scoring table or scorecard box, make sure the scorecard is signed and attested. Once this is done all scores on the offical card can not be changed.

Cancellations:

Once you have signed up for a tournament, it is your responsibility to show up. We understand that emergencies or plans change, and if that happens up to the day before the tournament, you need to contact the Tournament Director for the tournament that you signed up for. This gives them the opportunity to modify the tee sheet and let the Pro Shop know of the changes. If you need to cancel the morning of the tournament, you will need to contact the Pro Shop directly and let them know. Failure to do so can result in suspension from future tournament play or being responsible for your green fees.

2022 Club Championship winners

Congratulations to the following Champions………….

2022 Club Champion, Taylor Casper. TC shot scores of 66, 76 and 67 for a 3 day total of 209 which lead to a 2 shot victory. This win was his 4th SJHMGC Club Championship victory in the last 8 years. Taylor will represent the Men’s Club at the SCGA Tournament of Champions in December at Red Hill CC. He is also a past winner of this event back in 2014!

Net Champion, Mike Haffty. Mike pulled off a 1 stroke victory and will represent the Men’s Club at the SCGA Net Club Championship.

Senior Net Champion,Terry Fiero. Terry might have pulled off the Championship hattrick with past victories as Club Champion and Net Club Champion to go along with his Senior title. He will represent the Men’s Club next at the SCGA Net Club Championship.

Cliff swallows have been migrating to San Juan Capistrano to pair up and nest for centuries and we can understand why: One renowned novelist called this sunny southern corner of Orange County “the only romantic spot in California. ” Well, perhaps this is a bit of an overstatement, but it’s definitely a place that inspires romance. Developed around Mission San Juan Capistrano, the area is a charming mixture of old and new worlds, characterized by graceful Spanish architecture, rolling foothills, working ranches, and million-dollar homes in gated communities.

The sun-drenched San Juan Hills Golf Club is built in that welcoming, Early California style. Its hacienda-influenced clubhouse has the easy flow of a structure designed for indoor/outdoor gatherings. The Green View Veranda is a gorgeous setting for an al fresco reception. Framed by fragrant plants like lavender, rosemary, sage and citrus, as well as roses, olive trees, birds of paradise and pampas grasses, it has a pretty half-moon-shaped fire pit and overlooks the 18th hole and the surrounding San Juan Hills. The adjacent lawn has been used for a variety of setups—pavilions, food carts, strolling entertainers, and party games. You can pair terrace and lawn with the Green View Room—the club’s lovely banquet space—for cocktails, dinner and dancing. The vaulted, openbeam ceiling, dark walnut accents and Tuscan-style chandeliers give it a warm Mediterranean feel, while glass doors that slide into the walls admit cooling breezes and sweeping golf course views.

A more intimate outdoor reception site is the First T Patio, offering a view of the first tee, green hills and pond. Accented with market lighting, it’s perfect for a ceremony or rehearsal dinner as well.

You can also tie the knot on the course’s first tee. A cushiony green rise overlooking the club’s lake and waterfall, it’s both picturesque and musical, the waterfall providing a soft little shower of sound. It’s a natural choice for photos, too, though picture-perfect backdrops abound on the beautifully landscaped grounds. A third ceremony option, the Greenside Patio, is nestled between the Veranda and the rolling greens. It features market lighting and a view of the greens and pond.

The wedding couple each have their own retreat. One entourage can get ready in a room with softly sueded walls, vanity, full-length mirror and fainting couch, while the other can relax in the Board Room off the Pro shop. On request, it converts into the ideal lounge, outfitted with black leather chairs, a mahogany table, and a big-screen wall TV.

Whatever the function and wherever you decide to host it, the San Juan Hills staff will make sure everything runs smoothly, seeing to everyone’s needs and serving up the mouthwatering hors d’oeuvres and entrées for which the club is well known.
