Ajuy is a village located in the municipality of Pajara on the southwestern coast of the island of Fuerteventura. The village is located at the mouth of the Barranco de Ajuy river. Once it was an ordinary fishing village, now Ahuy has become a popular tourist destination. What attracts tourists here? The two main attractions are Fuerteventura’s only black sandy beach and unique volcanic caves surrounded by unusual lunar landscapes. nine0003

The village itself looks colorful, the houses are built in the traditional Canarian style — white and pastel houses are located around the beach. There are numerous restaurants and bars in the only square.

There are several gorges near the village, the biggest ones are Akhuy, Aulagar. Several volcanic ridges descend from the mountains to the ocean, forming coastal cliffs that run along the entire western coast of the island.

  Akhuy is a place where unique natural attractions are collected, tourists find interesting unusual landscapes reminiscent of space, the opportunity to walk and admire the surrounding nature, the elements of the ocean. People do not come to Ahuy for a beach holiday, as on the entire west coast, it is always windy and there are waves on the local beach. But for the sake of fantastic volcanic landscapes, it is worth visiting here.

  Ajuy Caves

  Cuevas de Ajuy is the main local attraction, it is one of the deepest and most ancient caves of the Canary Islands. Their depth is about 300 meters, they were formed as a result of the passage of volcanic lava, from which the foundation of the island of Fuerteventura was formed.   Road to the Ajuy Caves

  You can also reach the village by bus from Morro Jable and Costa Calma on line 4. The fare is about 6 euros.
