Laguna Lodge is located on a narrow strip of land, six hundred feet wide. Its spacious gardens enjoy the Caribbean Sea on one side and Tortuguero Lagoon on the other.
The lodge has fifteen acres, full of trees and exotic plants, while the gardens shelter a great number of birds and butterflies, which provide ample opportunity for birdwatching on your Costa Rica tour.
Tortuguero is the most important nesting site in the entire Western half of the Caribbean for the green sea turtle. A natural system of canals and navigable lagoons of great scenic beauty cross the park from southeast to northwest forming the habitat for seven species of river turtles, manatee or sea cow, reptiles, mammals such as howler and spider monkeys and a wide range of crustaceans plus some 30 freshwater species of fish.
Also, the lodge is home to a wide range of crustaceans and some 30 freshwater species of fish. Eleven habitats have been identified in the park with the crab wood, banak, Santa Maria, bully tree and dove wood are among the many types of trees.
Rooms
Laguna Lodge offers 80 rooms divided in blocks of 4 or 6 rooms furnished with all the basic elements for a very comfortable stay. The rooms are equipped with private bathroom, hot water, ceiling fan, reading lamps, and wooden benches located outside your room to admire the gardens. These rooms are wonderful places to relax on your adventure in Costa Rica.

— 2 bars, one located over the lagoon and another one next to the swimming pool area. Both of them decorated with woods from the beach.
-Swimming pool with hydro-massage waterfall and a small islet.

-Fifteen acres full of trees and exotic plants.
-Open butterfly garden with local plants that attract local species.
-Private trails.
-Access to the beach.
-A Gaudi style building with a small conference room, reception and souvenir shop.
-Covered boats to transport our guests from the boarding port and open boats that we use to tour the canals. All boats are equipped with life jackets and rain ponchos for your safety and comfort.
-Fishing trips with experienced local captains for Tarpon, Snook, Jacko Bell, Red Snapper, Macko among other species (trips upon request).
-Turtle nesting night walks (from mid July to September approximately)

Tortuguero National Park
During your visit to Tortuguero with Laguna Lodge, you will explore the National Park’s system of waterways which is fabulous! There lies a natural plumbing system of canals and navigable lagoons that crisscross the park from southeast to northwest, bringing a constant fresh supply of water to the park lowlands, providing the perfect habitat for 57 species of amphibians, 111 species of reptiles and 60 species of mammals.
Plants include aquatic lilies, monkey ladder, passion fruit tree, liriums. Furthermore, over 300 species of birds live in Tortuguero year-round. Birdwatchers commonly see keel billed toucans, trogons, Montezuma oropendolas and a variety of parrots. Birds common along the canals include green and great blue herons, egrets, kingfishers, anhingas, jacanas, sun grebes and several species of hawks and kites.
Other animals commonly seen are fishing bats, three-toed sloths, iguanas, basilisk lizards, poison dart frogs, howler, white-faced and spider monkeys. The tracks of river otters, collared peccaries and Baird´s tapirs are often seen on the banks of rivers and canals. Caiman are commonly observed in the waterways, which also are home to gar-fish, manatees, crocodiles, crustaceans. Jaguars, ocelots and kinkajous inhabit the park, but are not too often seen.

The area is known for its rivers, lakes and wetlands with lush virgin jungle and exotic plants.
The lodge is built on a narrow strip of land 200 meters wide between the main Tortuguero lagoon and the Caribbean Sea.
Tortuguero is a 3.5 hour drive from the city of San José. First you need to get overland to the port of departure in the city of La Pavona, and then take a boat that follows the Tortuguero along the La Suerta River and through the Penitense Lagoon.
The last public and private boats leave La Pavona at approximately 4:00 pm. If guests require a boat transfer, they must contact the lodge 3 days prior to arrival.
Check-in time from 12:00 to 20:00. Check-in is not possible at other times.
