Like we previously mentioned, Anfi del Mar is located on the other end of Puerto Rico and it’s easy to drive there, take a cheap taxi or get a bus (not so easy to walk there).
Anfi del Mar is a really beautiful and relaxing place, and the beach there is gorgeous, so it’s a great place to spend an entire day there, enjoying the water, the views and all the facilities. So if you’re looking to change it up a bit without traveling too far from Puerto Rico, Anfi del Mar is probably your best choice for a lovely beach day in the south of Gran Canaria.
10. Anfi Tauro Golf
Golfing is one of the top reasons why many people visit the Canary Islands, so if you fall into that category, you’ll be glad to know there’s a good golf course very close to Puerto Rico.
You can even stay in one of the villas located on the grounds of the golf course, which will be really convenient if this is the main purpose of your holiday in Gran Canaria. The southernmost and highest point of Gran Canaria in one excursion
Is it possible to see the sea and visit the mountains in just a few hours, appreciate the unearthly beauty of the sand dunes and marvel at the magnificence of the rocks rising up, visit the most modern resort and walk along the streets of the ancient town? Yes, you certainly may! To do this, you need to go on a short tour of Gran Canaria — this is really a whole continent in miniature, where many natural and historical beauties can be seen in just a few hours.
It’s worth starting your acquaintance with a series of southern resorts of the island from the beginning, or from the end — depending on where you look from! The most eastern resort in the southern part of Gran Canaria is Puerto de Mogan — to the north-west of this town, the coast is impregnable steep cliffs. Puerto de Mogan is notable for its Andalusian architecture, a picturesque harbor with hundreds of various yachts and many narrow sea bays, through which dozens of bridges are thrown.
From here our path will lie to the southeast, to the popular resort of Puerto Rico. But first, you should stop by the small town of Amadores to admire the famous «Lovers’ Beach» with white sand, located in a bay closed on all sides with turquoise clear water. He regularly receives the Blue Flag award for cleanliness and well-groomedness.
Very close to this quiet and peaceful place is one of the most popular resorts of Gran Canaria, the center of water sports and fun youth recreation — sunny Puerto Rico.
This city, with its whitewashed buildings, luxurious beaches and attractive promenade, certainly deserves to stay here longer and spend that few days.
But that’s later, but for now we’ll move on — towards the main resort of the island, the famous Maspalomas. After stopping for a short time in Meloneras, which is the most respectable area of the resort, and admiring the chic villas and cottages here, we will drive up to one of the main local attractions — the 56-meter lighthouse of Maspalomas. Further along the ocean, the desert dunes of Maspalomas will open to us, which occupy the southernmost tip of the island and are simply amazing! In this sandy kingdom, among the golden dunes, you can see the unique La Charca lake, the Palmeral palm grove, watch rare bird species…
Having admired this, without exaggeration, natural miracle, we will head north. After driving through the streets of the bright, youthful Playa del Ingles, famous for its discos, nightclubs and never-ending fun, we will go deep into the island, to its high mountainous regions.
After a few kilometers you will be able to see the Camel Safari Park, unusual for these places, where they arrange walks on these exotic animals along mountain roads.
Even further north, at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level, on a rock in a picturesque, green gorge, the charming village of Fataga opens up. With over 2,000 years of history, this small town, with typical Canarian architecture and stunning views, is today a top tourist attraction. There are many interesting souvenir shops open here, where you can buy all kinds of handicrafts that are made by residents of the surrounding settlements.
From here, our route will take us to the basalt monolith Roque Nublo, rising to a height of 1813 meters. This 80-meter cliff looks very impressive, and magnificent views open from its base. Once this place was sacred for local natives, but today hundreds of tourists climb here.
Finally, after a short ascent along the mountain roads, we will reach the highest point of the island — Mount Pico de Las Nves, 1970 meters high.
There is an observation deck with amazing panoramic views of the island, and in clear weather you can even see Mount Teide in neighboring Tenerife from here. Do not forget to take a jacket or a windbreaker — even on hot days the wind blows here and it is quite cool, and in winter you can even see snow here at times!
