Puerto Rico is 36 kilometres from Gran Canaria Airport (LPA)
Puerto Rico is a wonderful resort for couples, and groups of mates, and also for families. There is plenty of activities to keep you entertained during the day and late into the evening.
Located on the southwestern coast of Gran Canaria, just a 35-minute drive from Gran Canaria Airport, it is generally sheltered from the cooler northerly airstream. Puerto Rico can often be few degrees warmer here than northern Gran Canaria, which makes the resort a favourite location for winter holidays.
The views from nearly every angle are spectacular. Especially the cliffs are very nice to look at from the beach, with the hundreds of white apartments clinging to the hillsides.
Beaches
Playa de Puerto Rico
Playa de Puerto Rico is a small sandy beach that offers all tourist amenities.
Sunbeds with parasols are available for hire.
There also are some restaurants and cafes right at the beach and a small supermarket is nearby. This is an ideal beach for families as the sand is soft and extends right into the water. You can swim safely here. The beach is well maintained and clean.
There are many bars, cafes, and restaurants lining the beach so if you are hungry or thirsty they are all within easy reach.
There are two harbours Puerto Escala and Puerto Base at the opposite sides to this beach:
Puerto Escala
Puerto Escala is located on the right side of the beach and has an amazing sports harbour. You can take excursions to Mogan or a boat trip for deep-sea fishing. There are other sports/activities on offer, banana boat rides, jet skies, and glass-bottom boats, and parasailing.
Puerto Base
Puerto Base is on the left side of the beach. Here are the bigger catamaran and sailboats. If you like wildlife watching you can book a dolphin and whale watching tour from here.
These usually last about 2-3 hours.
Amadores Beach
Amadores Beach is another spectacular beach with clean white sand. Just a short 20-minute walk from Puerto Rico. The walk is along the panoramic promenade along the cliff.
Anfi Beach
Anfi Beach is more a resort very close to Puerto Rico that boasts a safe sandy beach, lined with palm trees. Along the front, there are some excellent restaurants and luxury coffee shops with some top-class shops.

Attractions
Aqualand Maspalomas Water Park
Puerto Rico is very near to the popular Aqualand Maspalomas water park. This is a favourite destination for many tourists. There are a number of big water slides, chutes, and a huge swimming pool.
Angry Birds Activity Park
A recreational theme park suited for children between 5-12 years old. As well at the many theme park rides there is a 10D cinema, yes a 10D cinema!
Pilancones Natural Park
For more natural attractions the Pilancones Natural Park (Parque Natural Pilancones) is a must.
It has amazing volcanic structures with Roque Nublo volcanic rock which dates back around 4.5 million years as a highlight.
Anfi Tauro Golf
There is a very good golf course at the neighboring village of Tauro. It is a fairly new resort with a 9-hole and 18-hole course. A beautiful golf course that also provides the player with a challenge.
Shopping
The lively Europa Shopping Centre is located right in the centre of Puerto Rico. It is full of high-quality restaurants bars and shops.
The shopping centre is great to walk around in the evening and well catered for people with walking difficulties. It is the hub of all things commercial. It has a mix of quieter bars for families and at night offers excellent live shows or you can dance the night away in some of the clubs at this centre.
Olas – Agua La Perra. This is a small shopping centre and slightly off the beaten track in the neighbouring bay of Agua La Perra. Escape the crowd and enjoy some of the best restaurants in the locality are based here.
Mogan Mall. This is a new state-of-the-art open air shopping centre that opened its doors in November 2019. This now has become the biggest shopping mall in Gran Canaria South.

There are many small outlets within Puerto Rico for car hire. Deciding on a car for a few days is a good option but it is so much cheaper to collect your car from Gran Canaria Airport if you reserve it ahead of time. Compare cheap car hire using our comparison search engine.
