Culebra is located 27 km (17 miles) east of Puerto Rico and 19 km (12 miles) west to Saint Thomas, its dimensions are about 11 km (7 miles) long and 5 km (3.5 miles) wide. Its total area including surrounding Cays is 7,000 acres. Culebra was founded on October 27, 1880 by Cayetano Escudero.
Culebra original names were “Isla Pasaje” and “Isla de San Idelfonso” in honor of Bishop San Idelfonso de la Culebra. Cayetano Escudero was the first Delegate of Culebra appointed by a Governmental order from Vieques on August 2, 1881. The capital is Dewey, which contains most of the archipelagoes 2000 souls. The municipality of Culebra includes all surrounding islets: Cayo Norte, Cayo Ballena, Cayos Geniqui, Culebrita, Arrecife Culebrita, Cayo de Luis Peña (named after its second owner), Las Hermanas, El Mono, Cayo Lobo, Cayo Lobito, Cayo Botijuela, Alcarraza, Los Gemelos, and Piedra Steven.
Culebrita is the largest cay near Culebra. Culebrita’s beach is the finest of white sand and the water visibility is almost unlimited. It is accessible only by boat and boasts the oldest operating lighthouse in the Caribbean. The Culebrita Lighthouse was built in 1886. In 1975, the Navy and Coast Guard closed the facility.
The island’s most popular beach is Flamenco Beach, because of its white and soft sands. Camping is available at Flamenco Beach on the north shore. Travel to Culebra Island
Getting to Culebra is convenient and affordable (no passport required for U.S. citizens). From San Juan, you have a few options for flights to Culebra or you may also take the ferry from Ceiba located at the Marina Dr, Roosevelt Roads.
The following rates are also available at the port’s ticket office. We recommend you to buy your tickets in advance to secure your place via porferry.com, this service is provided by Maritime Transportation Authority.

- Kids from 3 – 11 years old: $1.00
- Adults from 12 – 59 years olds: $2.00

La Playa Flamenco es la atracción principal de la pequeña isla Culebra. Para llegar allí debes tomar una lancha que sale de Fajardo. Una vez estés en el puerto de Culebra podrás llegar a la playa usando transportación pública. Esta playa está considerada como una de las mejores playas del mundo.
Su arena es blanca, su agua cristalina y prácticamente no tiene oleaje. Cuenta con más de una milla de largo y está rodeada de preciosas montañas. Hay una parte llana en donde puedes realizar “snorkeling”. Para contrarrestar esta maravilla natural, al lado izquierdo de la playa, encontrarás los restos de dos tanques del Ejército Estadounidense, lo que nos recuerda que en el pasado esta playa era utilizada para prácticas militares. Hay salvavidas, duchas, baños y un área para acampar. En la entrada de la playa hay negocios de alquiler de sillas y kioscos.

This beach is absolutely beautiful and the video does not give it the justice it deserves. You must truly go yourself. Water is as clear a pool very easy for snorkeling. Very fine white sand and when you go on a sunny day it is perfect. The winds that comes in is refreshing so even on a warm sunny day it can be cool and breezy. Most beautiful beach I have ever visited.

Me fui de camping hasta el 17 de marzo de 2009(acabo de llegar) y es super preciosa, tranquila, y todos son muy amables. El agua, la arena, hasta los tanques. Te lo recomiendo, disfrutaras en familia sin ningún problema.

les puedo decir que la playa flamenco es presiosa pero para acampar en caseta no me gusto no teniamos luz y los duchas eran en paredes no teniamos pribasidad y las abejas y avispa no nos dejaban en paz y los mosquito horrible para mi es mejor en un parador creo yo nunca e estado en parador alla en culebra pero visitenla pq es una de las playas mas preciosa que he visitado

En la islita de Culebra todo es hermoso y el q quiers visitarla q se vaya a aventurar ya q no hay nada mejor q la naturaleza. La primera vez q fuí no sabía nada y no necesité nada solo llegué monté mi caseta en Playa Flamenco y a disfrutar de la naturaleza. Hoy día voy varias veces al alo y sigo haciendo lo mismo.

El mejor lugar para quedarse es Villa Flamenco que esta frente a la playa Flamenco.
Una vez en la playa puedes alquilar unas sombrillas para estar allí por $10 a un muchacho que se dedica a eso. compra repelente para mosquitos porque hay una gran invasion de mosquitos y abejas por dondequiera.. No recomiendo Culebra Moon Villas.. Los mejores villa Flamenco o Club Seaborne..

To say that Puerto Rico is hot is to say nothing about the local climate.
This became clear to us as soon as we were at the airport of the capital of the island — the city of San Juan.
The sun and tropical humidity quickly destroyed our strength, already weakened after a long flight, and the only desire after getting off the plane was to get to the hotel as soon as possible.
Luckily, the hotel called Water Club was a stone’s throw from the beach and turned out to be the best place to relax and rejuvenate. Water here is not only in the name: it surprisingly constantly flows along the walls of the hall, restaurants and bars. Even in the elevator, where, by the way, there is no ceiling, one of the walls is continuous streams of water. nine0003
Calm and measured beach life, so well presented from the window of the room, continues until dark.
As soon as the rays of the sun disappeared and it became a little cooler, cars began to arrive at the hotel and each of the drivers tried to demonstrate the capabilities of their sound system.
By two in the morning the street in front of the hotel and the beach adjacent to it resembled a disco, where the sounds of salsa mixed with modern Puerto Rican rap — reggaeton. nine0003
The fact that life in Puerto Rico begins only after one in the morning and music plays almost the main role in it became clear on the very first day of our stay here.
However, we didn’t have the strength to hang out, especially since in the morning a plane was waiting for us to the island of Culebra, located half an hour away.
Thanks to its white sandy beaches, tiny Culebra is very popular with both tourists and locals who spend most of their lives by the sea. nine0003

They come to the beach in big companies; for every five people, they are sure to bring a set of several chairs, a table, a boom box from which rap rumbles, as well as a mini-fridge stocked with soft drinks and fruits, and sometimes even a portable TV.

Having settled down on one of the beaches, we decided to spend our first full day in the manner of the natives and took sun and sea baths all day, alternating them with occasional trips to other beaches and to the center of the island.
