You walk over this little bridge to get to the El Portal Lobby. As you first walk in, there is an information booth. Towards the far end ( back ) of the lobby these steps lead you up to the next level where events are set up. There is a waterfall on either side of the steps. You can also go up by ramp. Shown below. Handicap access ramp to be used instead of the stairs. The El Portal Visitors Center closes to the public about 4:30 or 5 PM. People actually get married and have their reception after El Portal closes to the public. It would have to end around 9 PM as employees want to go home then. They told me 10 PM at the latest, everyone has to be out, but you never know what you can work out.

El Portal
La empresa de construcción puertorriqueña pudo duplicar su volumen de operación con la misma cantidad de gerentes de proyecto gracias al manejo centralizado de información que brinda Procore.
Desafío
El centro de visitantes El Portal, del Bosque Nacional El Yunque de Puerto Rico, se cerró a los visitantes tras la devastación provocada por el huracán María en 2017. Para su restauración, el Gobierno Federal trabajó un ambicioso proyecto design-build que fue adjudicado a Interlink Construction. Uno de los requisitos contractuales de la obra era contar con un software de gestión que le permitiese abordar con solvencia los ambiciosos requisitos y plazos propuestos en colaboración con otras compañías y el Servicio Forestal del Departamento de Agricultura Federal.
Solución
El Servicio Forestal, con la región a cargo de Puerto Rico con sede en Atlanta, requería que Interlink dispusiese de un software de gestión para supervisar el proyecto remotamente. La constructora se dispuso a seleccionar entre los sistemas que existen en el mercado en busca de uno que no sólo sirviese para realizar la obra de El Portal de El Yunque, sino que mejore la gestión de proyectos futuros.
Y por eso se decidieron por Procore.
Con Procore se centralizaron todas las comunicaciones y los flujos de trabajo de Interlink, creando transparencia en todo el proceso de construcción. «Echando la vista atrás fue una bendición adoptar Procore justo antes del inicio de la pandemia porque si no hubiese sido tan fácil compartir información, el proyecto se habría complicado excesivamente», dice José Vales, Vicepresidente de Construcción y Gerente del Proyecto El Portal.
Ya que las posibilidades de visitar el proyecto eran muy limitadas para el cliente, tener a Procore como software gerencial fue clave para mantenerse conectados. «El proyecto era Design-Build y distribuimos actualizaciones de plano. Su distribución a través de Procore ayudó considerablemente a que todos los integrantes del proyecto estuvieran al tanto (nosotros, subcontratistas y cliente), y esto fue vital para poder entregar el proyecto con las exigencias en tiempo por contrato», añade Vales.
Resultados
La historia
El Portal del Bosque Nacional El Yunque reabrió el pasado enero tras estar cerrado al público durante cuatro años.
Ahora, gracias a Interlink y la firma de diseño Marvel Marchand, este acceso a un enclave único de la naturaleza luce una nueva apariencia en su estructura y diseño. Ahora cuenta con capacidad de acoger a más de 1.600 visitantes en sus innovadoras y abiertas estructuras. Éstas son sostenibles y conectan con el medio ambiente. La madera rescatada de los árboles afectados por los huracanes se incorpora a algunas de las exhibiciones. Se ofrecen programas interpretativos y educativos. Una vereda explicativa brinda la oportunidad de explorar el área circundante que anteriormente era una finca y un vivero. Una parte de la vereda es accesible.
Fundada en 1977, Interlink es un referente en el sector inmobiliario y contratista con más de 43 años de experiencia en Puerto Rico y el Caribe. El enfoque principal de la compañía es el desarrollo, la construcción y la administración de activos y propiedades, dentro de los sectores de hospitalidad, residencial y comercial.
Interlink tiene un historial de proyectos de construcción sobresalientes.
Ha realizado más de 3000 obras que incluyen hoteles como St. Regis Bahía Beach Resort en Río Grande y el Hotel Sheraton en el Distrito de Convenciones de Puerto Rico.
Cómo se adaptó Procore dentro de Interlink
Interlink adoptó y sacó partido de Procore desde varias perspectivas. En lo macro, se fueron adoptando módulos de la plataforma para integrar diferentes aspectos de la empresa y sus proyectos. Gracias al módulo “Contratos y presupuestos”, Interlink pudo prescindir de herramientas dedicadas a finanzas y emplear sólo Procore. De esta forma, se ahorran varios pasos y los gerentes de proyecto conocen en todo momento lo que está pasando en sus presupuestos. El uso de muchas herramientas diferentes a la vez crea problemas en el flujo de la información, y posibles retrasos y errores.
En lo micro, Jorge Valentín, ingeniero de proyecto, recalca lo «arcaica» que era su forma de trabajar antes de Procore. Ahora, cuentan con una amplia y organizada base de datos de compañías y clientes, y todo está comandado mediante formularios.
En la obra, toda la información es accesible desde cualquier computador, tablet o smartphone, y las constantes modificaciones se visualizan en tiempo real.
Reducción en tiempos de gestión y aumento de volumen de negocio sin aumentar el personal de oficina
Una de las principales ventajas señaladas por José Vales es cómo Procore ha aumentado exponencialmente su productividad personal al reducir el número de aplicaciones que tenía que usar y poder acceder a toda la información en tiempo real y desde cualquier dispositivo. Los trabajadores en la obra, equipados con un iPad, pueden consultar los recursos necesarios para realizar sus tareas sin tener que repetir o deshacer el trabajo ya hecho. Vales destaca cómo Procore les permitió ir incluyendo paulatinamente módulos de gestión dentro de la empresa empezando con la gestión de un proyecto en concreto para acabar integrando también la parte de finanzas. “Es un gran beneficio para un contratista poder contar con esta flexibilidad”.
Que Procore sea una herramienta web fue clave en su elección como software de administración de proyecto, ya que permite ser utilizado por cualquier dispositivo. “Esto nos permitió usar los ordenadores facilitados donde no podríamos haber instalado aplicaciones internas”.
Una implementación rápida y sin trabas
Uno de los principales desafíos a la hora de incluir un software de gestión es el temor a que los empleados rechacen adoptar un nuevo flujo de trabajo. Sin embargo, Rafael Colón, Gerente de Informática y Tecnología en Interlink, señala cómo el equipo integró Procore, acompañado durante todo el proceso de implementación y capacitación por parte de Procore. Pronto, todos los empleados comenzaron a entender los beneficios de disponer de un entorno de inteligencia central y actualizado disponible en tiempo real desde cualquier dispositivo. “Es rápido integrar Procore, y suele bastar con apenas una semana para que todos los empleados lo usen con la suficiente destreza”.

He tried in vain to wake his sleeping wife, but could not. All the dogs in the area barked madly, and a huge UFO silently hung in the sky. Suddenly, a bizarre creature quickly ran down the road, followed by a huge pack of howling, barking dogs.
Then a large beam of white light «like a trumpet» came out from under the huge UFO, and a «chupacabra»-like creature flew out into the chimney and was captured by the UFO.
