Update regarding RSA San Juan 2023: In September some of the RSA staff visited San Juan, Puerto Rico to finalize arrangements for our upcoming conference. Shortly after we returned home, Hurricane Fiona reached the island. It was devastating to have another hurricane strike the region only five years after Hurricane Maria. The images we continue to see on the news, mostly of the southern parts of the island, are distressing.
We stand in solidarity with our colleagues throughout the Caribbean and are working with them to identify ways that we can help. We anticipate no changes to our conference plans for March. Events like RSA San Juan 2023 will be part of Puerto Rico’s ongoing economic recovery. Read more.
The RSA will hold its first-ever conference at a historic Caribbean location when we meet in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on March 9 to March 11, at the Caribe Hilton and Condado Plaza Hilton.
Old San Juan is easily accessible from the conference venues by a short Uber or taxi ride, or a long walk. Attendees will have the opportunity to take special tours organized by the Puerto Rico Historic Buildings Drawings Society,
and to visit renowned sites and collections, including the San Felipe del Morro fortress, the Casa del Libro,
and the
Museo de las Americas. Additionally, the Museo de Arte de Ponce will be holding an exhibition of works from their Dutch and Flemish collections at the
Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico in San Juan at the time of our conference.
RSA San Juan 2023 Registration
Participating in RSA San Juan 2023 requires RSA membership and conference registration. The registration deadline for San Juan participants is 31 January 2023. Registration for RSA San Juan 2023 is now open.
A 25% discount will be offered for San Juan registrants who also registered for RSA Virtual 2022.

RSA San Juan 2023 Grants
The RSA is offering a limited number of competitive, need-based travel, diversity, and on-site care grants to assist scholars making presentations at the 2023 San Juan Annual Meeting. Presenters of papers, lightning talks, and workshops are eligible;
session chairs, respondents, and discussants in roundtables are not. Read more about our conference grants.
The application deadline was 15 November 2022. Applicants will be notified in early January.
Our San Juan Conference Hotels
Our two conference hotels are the Caribe Hilton and Condado Plaza Hilton. Each hotel has distinct features. The Caribe will be our conference hub, hosting the exhibits and most of the breakouts, and it has a larger resort area for its overnight guests.
The Condado has some resort
facilities as well, is a 15-minute walk from the Caribe, and is located closer to shops and restaurants. Old San Juan is easily accessible from the conference venues by a short taxi ride (10-15 minutes) or walking (40-50 minutes). The nightly rate
for a standard room, including tax, will be approximately $300 USD. Limited availability rates before and after the conference dates may be at a higher rate.
The RSA has a limited number of rooms in our hotel blocks and we do expect the blocks to sell out. If you wish to stay at the conference hotels, please book your room as soon as possible.
We are currently working with the conference hotels to add additional nights before and after the conference to accommodate RSA members who wish to extend their stay. If your preferred dates are not available, please contact Jay Pierce of Connections

COVID Policies
The RSA requests that all registrants who are eligible be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with the primary series of an accepted vaccine. We understand that there may be rare exceptions. We will not ask for vaccination status in the course of conference
registration or attendance unless the Puerto Rican government or US government mandates it.
Masks will be optional, but encouraged in indoor spaces.
The weather in San Juan is warm in March, with daytime highs usually in the 80s (Fahrenheit) and nighttime lows in the 70s.

More than 1,500 participants plan to share their work at the historic Caribe Hilton. We’ve selected a high-traffic area for the exhibit and will also offer conference online schedule and mobile app ads in a number of placements and formats. Please see
