The first of the resorts in this North Shore destination is the legendary JackTar Village Resort, which opened in 1980, and was named after English sailors. Today, many other resorts line up the coast, listed in the Puerto Plata resorts page.

Playa Dorada Beach extends for 1.9kms (1,900m), starting at the Blue JackTar next to Pueblito Beach, extending as a curve 900m all the way to the Grand Paradise hotel peninsula, then curving down again 1km all the way to the Munoz River.

Playa Dorada has one of the best signature golf courses in the Dominican Republic, a masterpiece of legendary Golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., who designed more than 400 courses during his 70-year career, all over the world. Playa Dorada Golf was created in 1979, an 18-hole, par 72 course that features 5 sea views holes, one directly by the Atlantic Ocean.
