Condado beach

The Caribbean

Puerto Rico

Condado beach

It is situated on the north coast of Puerto Rico within the limits of the island capital, San Juan. It is often compared to American Miami Beach due to close vicinity of large trade malls, luxury hotels, and high class night clubs. This popular beach is located in the very center of the prestigious district of San Juan, Condado, and atracts with its pompousness, noisy fashionable parties, and the possibility to meet celebrities. Condado is also an excellent option for surfers who come here from the entire island.

Photos

Beach description

the coastline is rather stretched and wide, and is covered with soft golden sand. The sea is transparent, clear, of the amazing azure color. The bottom is sandy, the water entry in the central part is comfortable, with stones and boulders somewhere on the sides.

Condado has rather high waves because the beach is open to powerful winds and currents. It is surfers’ paradise, and families with small children should take special caution at swimming. The guests’ safety is provided by beach rescuers, and comfortable swimming zones are marked with special signs and beacons.

The beach is equipped with all the necessary facilities, it has shower cabins, water closets, and changing cabins. At extra charge, umbrellas and sling chairs are offered, and tourists who wish to stay on their own towels will always find a comfortable place here as well.

Condado provides the wide range of beach entertainment: water rides, playgrounds, children’s camps with bouncy castle slides and trampolines. Special stations renting boards and the necesary equipment are provided for surfers. Numerous cafes and and cafeterias are situated along the beach, and you can buy ice cream, sweet baked goods and drinks from local vendors, or use waiters’ services.

There is a small secret beach in the western part of Condado, almost unknown to tourists. It is called Playita de Condado and is located westwards from the bridge to Ashford Avenue. The beach is surrounded with hotels, so it’s not as wind here as on the central beach. Close to the beach, the coral reef is situated that prevents the formation of high waves and strong currents. Water is shallow and warm, and trees bringing cool shadow grow along the beach. Beach rescuers work here; there is a shower cabin, and changing rooms. The beach may be a bit crowded on weekends and in the high season, but you can have a nice time with your family, and not worry for letting small children go into water. Cleanliness and order here are provided by the staff of the hotel Condado Plaza Hilton, they have the special center of water sports where you can rent a kayak and snorkeling equipment.

When is the best time to go?

Puerto Rico is warm year-round, but from May to November, hurricanes often fly along the coast. One of them only a short time ago literally swept off the pier, which appeared before the camera the famous Despacito, and made it a history. Also during this period is characterized by the increased humidity and a lot of rainfall. The most favorable period is the time from December to April. Puerto Rico is recommended for a tourist holiday in these months.

Infrastructure

Near the beach, there is the busy Ashford Avenue with its expensive restaurants, fashion boutiques, and luxury hotels. In the afternoon, you will enjoy hiding from heat under exotic palm trees with a glass of Pina Colada, go for engrossing shopping, or have a tasty dinner in one of numerous restaurants. In the evening, the quay turns into a bright kaleidoscope of music and light – nightclubs and karaoke bars open their doors, where you can have fun until the morning.

Despite the fact that San Juan Condado is considered a prestigious district, accommodation for any budget can be found here. One of the most attractive options in the “price-quality” category is Condado Lagoon Villas at Paseo Caribe, a modern multi-storeyed apart hotel on the first line, one hundred meters away from the beach. It offers spacious comfortable rooms with kitchenettes, private bathrooms and convenient balconies with sea views. On the territory, the garden is planted, there are a swimming pool and a private parking lot. Guests can make free use of the fitness studio, satellite TV and free Internet. Accommodation with pets is permitted. The hotel is situated in the beach western part, the most quiet and cozy. It will take you only five minutes to get to Escambrón Beach, and there are stores, restaurants and trade centers at a walking distance.

The relief of the main island is mostly small mountains with coastal areas. The highest point is Mount Cerro de Punta (1338 m). The deepest point of the Atlantic Ocean – the Milwaukee Trench (8380 m below sea level) is located in the western part of the Puerto Rico Trench.

Total area – 9104 sq. km, the population is about 4,000,000 people. Catholicism dominates among religions, Protestantism, the Anglican Church, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Muslims take place. The official languages are Spanish and English.

The capital is the city of San Juan.

Rampant elements

Last fall, Hurricane Maria hit the island, causing severe flooding and plunging Puerto Rico into darkness for a long time. The historical center of the capital was badly damaged, the streets of which were littered with stone debris and fallen power lines.

The restoration of the state is proceeding at a very slow pace, since the authorities, which have declared bankruptcy, have no funds. Its infrastructure is in a very deplorable state, and the United States does not consider saving the territory under its control a priority.

A fairy-tale corner that suffered from the elements, more than ever needs tourists to recover faster, because tourism is the most important area of activity that brings income to the state. It is very easy to help people, for example, to bring medical supplies or food. And it is no coincidence that now a lot of volunteers, combining leisure and voluntary assistance, are rushing to where the island of Puerto Rico is located.

Puerto Rico cities

To the south of the city of Arecibo (18 kilometers) the National Park Kaver-nas del Río Camuy opened the door for tourists. Here is the largest cave system in the world. Created thanks to the Kamuy River, which carries its waters deep underground into the Atlantic Ocean and for many years washed out more than 200 caves .

Only a few are open to the public. Visitors can descend in a special trailer into the well of the cave, admiring the abundant vegetation that covers the walls. Excursion programs allow you to be amazed by the scale of one of the halls more than 20 meters high, to raft down the underground river. The cave system has not been fully explored and keeps many secrets beyond the control of modern man.

Cities of Puerto Rico

San Juan was founded in 1521 and is one of the oldest American cities. Today it is also one of the most beautiful cities on the Caribbean coast. It perfectly combines historical and modern architecture, and the fortresses of Fuerte – San Felipe – del Moro and Fuerte – San Cristobal are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

No less famous is the port city of Ponce, where the colonial architecture of houses, squares, churches and even fountains is also perfectly preserved. And the city fire station is considered one of the oldest in the world.

The beautiful city of San Germán, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is famous for its history with the same preserved colonial architecture.

Rincón is a popular destination for surfers and whale and dolphin watchers.

Amazing cave world

In the northwest of the country, in the natural park The Parque de las Cavernas del Rio Camuy, there is an extensive network of caves. Rio Kamui is a mysterious underground world that formed 45 million years ago. Of the 800 halls, no more than 200 have been explored so far, but a small part of them is available for tourists to visit. The miraculous miracle, which has not yet revealed all its secrets to mankind, impresses with its beauty and size.

The mysterious grottoes, 200 meters high and about 130 meters deep, hardly get sunlight, and a completely different world opens up in the underworld. Experts have discovered rare species of blind fish that live in underground lakes, and bizarre karst formations resemble alien landscapes.

As the tourists who descended underground after the bright tropics admit, they felt the magic of a unique corner with a mystical aura. This is a real immersion in another dimension.

Entertainment, excursions, attractions

The main attractions of San Juan are concentrated, of course, in the Old Town, which is an open-air museum. All the architecture here speaks of the Spanish colonial period – Plaza – del – Sinto – Centenario, the walls of La – Muraglia, the shafts of El – Morro and San – Cristobal, the fort of Fuerte – San – Felipe – del – Moro, the fortress of Fuerte – San – Cristobal and many other. It will be very informative to visit the city museums – Museo – de – Las – Americas, the “Children’s” Museum, the Casa Blanca Museum, the Art Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Colonial Architecture and the Family Museum, as well as many others. The new city is not inferior to the Old one in beauty and grandeur. Here is the best urban beach Condado – Beach with a well-developed infrastructure, cozy residential areas, San Juan Bay – an ocean port, world-famous wine shops and, of course, museums – Indian, Artistic, Casa – Roig, Creole, Posters, Tobacco. The city parks Luis Munoz Rivera and Sixto Escobar are also distinguished by their special beauty. The surroundings of San Juan are no less famous – in the suburbs there is the world’s most famous rum factory – Bacardi, and a little further away – the best reserve of El Yunque with the adjacent Picones forest reserve.

Acquaintance with the city of Ponce, as a rule, begins with the Cathedral of Cateral – de – La – Guadalupe, the city park De – Bombas, Casa – Armstrong – Poventuda, Casa – Alcalda and the Historical Museum. The Museum of Art is recognized as one of the best on the Caribbean coast, as well as the Music Museum, Sports Museum, where you can learn a lot about the history and art of the country and the region as a whole. On the island of Mona, you can enjoy nature, its grandeur and immediacy to the full. Here you can see giant lizards, sea turtles, migration of humpback whales, a variety of fish.

The Arecibo Observatory houses the largest radio telescope in the world and the educational Museum of Science and Space.

The famous karst cave of Rio – Camai – not far from the observatory.

Cryptoroy or cryptoutopia?

Curiously, just a few months after the hurricane, American entrepreneurs began to migrate here, attracted by tax incentives. If in other countries they tightened the regulation of the circulation of digital money, then the authorities of the island of Puerto Rico, who are looking for new ways to revive the economy, provided businessmen with all the conditions for the development of a cryptocurrency business. Investors want to build a new city from scratch, create their own state within a state. Only virtual money will circulate in the crypto-rai called Sol. So far, entrepreneurs have concentrated in the Old City, having bought out numerous hotels and one of the museums.

The locals fear that the island will turn into a playground for the rich, who are conducting their experiment. And will he succeed as a result? Nobody knows.

Despite natural disasters, the island of Puerto Rico (reviews of tourists only confirm this) continues to be the most desirable vacation spot on our planet.

The territory of the observatory is lost in the mountains among the jungle and is a plateau with a huge installation similar to an alien shuttle. Inside the scientific center, interactive excursions are held on the topic of the operation of the radio telescope and the structure of our universe.
