The USN-22 Connecticut nuclear submarine, which suffered in a collision with an unknown object, returned to base on the island of Guam on October 8th. According to defense sources, they closely monitored the situation with the submarine and analyzed objective monitoring data. Russia has the ability to observe foreign warships in specified areas of the oceans, the Defense Ministry stressed.
Although the incident occurred on October 2, the US Navy did not report it until five days later, on Thursday. According to official figures, 11 crew members received 90,003 injuries, two of them of moderate severity. They did not need an emergency medical evacuation. The nuclear reactor was not damaged. According to maritime traditions, in the event of a collision, both submarines must surface and make reports about this, request the opponent and provide assistance, the captain of the 1st rank explained. But, as a rule, one of the participants in the incident prefers to hide in order to remain unknown.
Aircraft carrier quartet
The area where the Connecticut submarine was damaged is considered one of the world’s hotspots.
Tensions have been rising in the South China Sea in recent years over territorial disputes between China and surrounding US-backed countries.
