One of the richest areas of Spain with the best and most picturesque beaches is the Costa Dorada (Gold Coast), a stretch of coast in southern Catalonia. The geographical features of this region contributed to the formation of sandbars, which is in particular contrast with another tourist area located somewhat to the north – the Costa Brava. While the latter is dominated by rock masses even on the very shore, the Gold Coast is more low-lying, comfortable just for a beach holiday.

The center of the beach infrastructure of the entire Costa Dorada is the small town of Salou. There are several beaches here at once, and, which is rare for these places, some of them are separated by impressive rocky walls. In the high season, many holidaymakers and locals occupy every stretch of the sandy coast of Salou, but Playa de Levante is the most popular.

Playa de Levante (Levante)

Playa de Levante is Salou’s liveliest tourist area. Nearby are several comfortable hotels, many restaurants and modest eateries, within walking distance of the famous singing fountains and other attractions of the Costa Dorada. And one of the largest amusement parks in all of Europe – PortAventura – is just a few kilometers away.

Playa de Levante itself is a long and wide stretch of sand that curves along the bay of Salou. The promenade a few tens of meters from the coast, lush tropical vegetation of palm trees and a stunning view of the distant mountains give it a special beauty.

La Pineda beach

Just north of Salou, about 15 kilometers away, is the beautiful and relatively secluded La Pineda beach.

Despite the fact that there are several large hotels nearby, La Pineda is undeservedly overlooked by many connoisseurs of beach holidays. They are repelled by the nearby oil refinery with the port. However, in terms of cleanliness, local waters are in no way inferior to other places popular with tourists.

Cambrils Beach

The beaches of the Costa Dorada, which are located in the southern part of the Gold Coast, are represented in the list by Cambrils, located in the town of the same name. It is very long, for most of its length it is quite wide and roomy. When I saw the beach of Cayo Levantado, I was simply surprised and amazed by its beauty. Bavaro beach

Bavaro Beach is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Dominican Republic. He gained a celebrity among tourists due to several kilometers of soft white sand and developed tourist infrastructure.

I think the best beach in Punta Cana!

The beach in Bavaro (Punta Cana resort) is known due to the large number of hotels and infrastructure, here you can relax for every taste! The beach itself is long, so you can walk endlessly! By the way, some write that Bavaro beach is dirty . . this is not entirely true, it is different. And it all depends on the hotel that cleans it. Somewhere they clean algae constantly, but somewhere not, that’s the result. Much depends, as already mentioned, on the hotel.. Personally, I would recommend Catalonia Bavaro Beach Golf & Casino Resort without a twinge of conscience, where we rested for a whole month in 2017, oh there were times!!!

Bayahibe beach

We move further south and go around the peninsula, where the Kotubanama National Park is located, next to which Bayahibe Beach is located. By the way, this is the Caribbean Sea, not the Atlantic Ocean.

Bayahibe is a great place for a peaceful holiday away from mass tourism. Bordered by the Bayahibe coconut grove, it is two kilometers from the village where you will find restaurants and bars.

The charming fishing village comes alive a little only a couple of times a day: first – when tourists leave here for the islands of Catalina and Saona, then – when they return. The rest of the time the beach remains very calm.

Nice beach, fine white sand, many places with shallow places, children will like it. There are also places for adults, where they are deeper, for example, a wild beach near the president’s dacha. I note that there are few attractions nearby, and the resort itself is quite calm, life here is in full swing only on the main street)) most of the restaurants and hotels are located here. We rested at the Coral Costa Caribe Resort & SPA, there was no algae on the beach, and the breakwater copes well with big waves.

Boca Chica Beach

The beach is located just 30 kilometers east of the capital Santo Domingo, in the San Andres Bay. Boca Chica is covered with fine white sand, and every weekend locals gather here, as well as tourists who want to spend a day by the sea. This is one of the most famous beaches in the Santo Domingo area and this is not surprising – there is a shallow depth and a sandy bottom.

Which beaches have the least algae

The same beach in the Dominican Republic at different times can look very different. In addition, the beaches of neighboring hotels can have completely different attractiveness. Usually the whole point is that somewhere they clean better, and somewhere worse.

Also note that during the rainy season (May-October), there may be a little more algae than usual, but in the winter months they are much less.

In addition, the amount of algae may also depend on the areas of the Dominican Republic. So, some of them have more algae than others. For example, resorts on the Caribbean coast, such as La Romana and Bayahibe, are not too susceptible to algae invasion. Due to the purity of the water, they are famous for diving spots. On the island of Saona, the water is also usually perfectly clear, and Fronton Beach, located on the northern coast of the island, is also distinguished by this. But in the popular resort of Punta Cana, the cleanliness of the beaches directly depends on the choice of the hotel and the frequency and quality of their cleaning.
