Snorkeling in Culebra

Snorkeling in Culebra

Snorkeling is one of the most practiced water activities in Culebra. You will find marine beauty virtually all around the Island. The beaches of Punta Soldado and Flamenco are perfect for beginners. Melones, Tamarindo and Carlos Rosario beach are part of the Luis Peña Natural Reserve. Fishing and the anchoring of vessels is prohibited, making the area very pristine and full extraordinary species. Here are our snorkeling tips so you fully enjoy your adventure:

Never alone.

For safety reasons, always take someone with you.

Know your equipment.

While in shallow waters, develop the confidence to use the mask and breathe through the snorkel. Always breathe consistently.

“Uh, oh… it’s not working.”

It is common for your snorkel and mask to fill with water. To remove water from the tube, exhale forcefully, this will expel it from the tube. If water gets into the mask, just swim to the surface, lift your mask a little and let the water out.

Floating.

In deep waters, take your time to get used to the flippers to keep afloat.

Stay close to shore.

Just as a precaution, it’s better to keep close to shore.

If you get tired.

When you get tired, just rotate your body upwards and change into a semi-sitting position. This lets you rest and breathe comfortably. You can also use a life jacket; reducing your efforts in the water.

Keep an eye out around you.

Every so often, look at your partner and around you to keep oriented.

Use common sense.

Do not try to do more than you can.

Wear a shirt or use sunscreen.

You will be with your back to the sun for a while, better prepare.

Look but do not touch please.

The coral reefs are very delicate ecosystems.

We hope these tips will help you enjoy your adventure snorkeling En Culebra.

Year of Russia-Spain ended with fiery flamenco at the Bolshoi Theatre. /Corr. ITAR-TASS Olga Svistunova/. To the sound of tap dancing, castanets and thunderous applause, the “cross” Year of Russia and Spain ended last Friday at the Bolshoi Theater. To participate in this important event, one of the best creative teams of the Iberian Peninsula, the National Ballet of Spain, arrived in Moscow for the sake of a single performance, captivating the audience with its fiery flamenco. The evening was attended by the Minister of Culture of Spain, Angeles Gonzalez-Cinde, and the Spanish Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Luis Felipe Fernandez de la Peña.

At the beginning of the week, a similar action took place at the Royal Theater “Real” in Madrid, where a concert of ballet stars from the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theaters was successfully held. And now the response mission was given to the National Ballet of Spain. And although, unlike his Russian colleagues, he does not perform classical steps, but folk dance, the art of the world-famous troupe fully deserves the academic stage, as Muscovites have clearly seen.

As if separated from a black curtain, seven slender guys in black raincoats quickly appeared on the stage. Having done something unimaginable with their feet and hands, they easily gave way to five luxurious couples, who united real machos with sultry beauties in fluffy skirts flying from the indomitable dance. The dance carousel picks up the pace. The ballet “Duality”, which opened the concert, goes on in one breath, captivating the audience with incendiary flamenco, all the attributes of which, as they say, are evident: the bright clatter of heels, the sparkling strumming of guitars, and the hot looks of the artists. It is not for nothing that philologists trace the origin of the word “flamenco” to the word “flamma”, which means “flame”.

Flamenco is a treasure of Spanish ballet, just like Swan Lake is for us. But this is not only a dance, but also a universal expression of the Spanish temperament. The great dancer Carmen Amaya entered the history of her country as its incarnation. The ballet “Legend”, shown in the second part of the evening, is dedicated to her. Performing in the 30s of the last century, this artist was extremely popular, in many ways, thanks to her, the European and then the world flamenco boom began. A monument has been erected to this woman in Barcelona. It is also known that Carmen Amaya brilliantly performed not only women’s, but also men’s parts, even dressed in a men’s suit – and in this role she could surpass any dancer in terms of the power of expression. Therefore, in the play “Legend” two women are the soloists – one represents the main character in a female form, and the other in a male one.

However, towards the end of the evening they both become women and appear in fantastic costumes – in white and black dresses with long airy tails – cola, like Odette and Odile, only in the Spanish version. The beauty is breathtaking, dazzling, and a deafening ovation breaks out in the hall.

On such an emotional note, the “cross” Year of Russia and Spain ended in Moscow. But the reaction of the public left no doubt – our countries have not years ahead, but centuries of friendship, cooperation and mutual admiration for art.
