El escudo responde en diseo
y colores a la bandera de Lares, adoptado oficialmente en el ao 1952.

El significado del escudo
es el siguiente:

En el centro tiene la Bandera de Lares, que no es otra que la histrica bandera
proyectada por el patricio Dr. Ramn Emeterio Betances, para la Repblica de Puerto Rico.

La cadena que rodea el
escudo, es arma parlante que representa el nombre de Lares y perpeta el
apellido de sus colonizadores significado: subrayar el objeto de la
insurreccin de Lares, que fue liberar a Puerto Rico de las cadenas del
coloniaje.

El Escudo de Armas
descrito, puesto en un semicrculo, con las palabras Lares, Ciudad del Grito en
la parte inferior, constituye el Sello de Lares. Asi
se identifica inconfundiblemente el Municipio de Lares, en cualquier lugar del
mundo.

BANDERA

La bandera de Lares tiene
su origen peculiar e histrico. Par fines de mayo y principios de junio de
1868, don Manuel Rojas present, en una reunin de la Junta Centro Bravo, el
diseo de una bandera, ideada por el Dr. Ramn Emeterio
Betances, que se utilizara como smbolo del Grito de
Lares y bandera de Puerto Rico cuando se lograra la independencia de la nacin.

Esta bandera esta formada
por una cruz latina blanca al centro, cuyos brazos y base tienen de ancho la
tercera parte de la latitud del emblema.

Cuatro cuadrilteros, situados arriba y abajo de los brazos de la cruz.

De color azul celeste los superiores, rojo brillante los inferiores y una
estrella blanca de cinco puntas, colocada en el centro del cuadriltero
superior izquierdo.

La bandera de proclam como
representacin oficial del Municipio de Lares en 1952, por la Asamblea
Municipal y el Alcalde, para aquel entonces, Hon.
Ramn Mara Ramrez.

Significado: Cruz blanca-
ansia de patria y redencin. El rojo- la sangre vertida por los hroes de la
rebelin. La estrella- libertad (en el azul soledad).

Lares, Puerto Rico

Lares is known as “El Pueblo del Grito”
(the city of the revolt). Lares was founded in April 26, 1827 by
Francisco de Sotomayor and Pedro Vélez Borrero. The city was named after
one of its settlers, Don Amador de Lariz.

On September 23, 1868, Lares was the scene of the events
that gave birth to a social revolution against Spain for
Puerto Rican independence, known as “El Grito de Lares”.
