$60M Residence Inn by Marriott opens in Isla Verde – News is My Business
The first 231-room Residence Inn by Marriott in Puerto Rico has officially opened its doors in the Isla Verde sector of Carolina, following a $60 million investment, company officials announced.
This new addition to the Marriott International portfolio of 30 brands is the company’s first extended-stay hotel in Puerto Rico.
The new property is a 100% local project run by Interlink, a development, construction, and property management company. Interlink has a proven track record that includes a portfolio of developments and renowned construction projects and are partners in the following hotels: Sheraton Puerto Rico, The St. Regis Bahía Beach Resort, AC Hotel San Juan, Hotel El Convento, Hotel Palacio Provincial, and the Embassy Suites San Juan Hotel & Casino.
While Interlink was the general contractor of the project, the hotel’s architectural design was carried out Álvarez-Díaz & Villalón, while financing of the project was led by FirstBank and had the participation of the Cooperative Bank of Puerto Rico and the Corporation for Hotel Development.
The hotel is headed by local hospitality industry professionals Sem Cuevas and Reynaldo Fernández from Highgate.
“We’re very enthusiastic and excited about the opening of the Residence Inn by Marriott Isla Verde, the first hotel in its category to open its doors in Puerto Rico, and a new alternative for the local tourism industry,” said Interlink CEO Federico J.
Sánchez-Ortiz.
“As in every Interlink project, the development of this hotel involved a thorough process to ensure quality in every detail and fulfill our goal of building with innovation and sustainability as the main pillars,” the executive said, adding that the new hotel will be generating more than 100 direct jobs, in addition to the 350 jobs generated in its design and construction phase.
The property features eco-friendly components such as electricity efficiency and water consumption, and installation of LED lighting, among others. The hotel sits on a plot on Isla Verde Ave. that was previously a disused parking lot, where the new owners preserved a frontal grove and planted an additional green strip of tropical plant gardens.
“The market entry of this hotel offers an excellent alternative for visitors looking to book a lengthier stay on the Island and adds 231 rooms to the local inventory while increasing the appeal of our offer and the contribution of Tourism to the Island’s economy,” said Puerto Rico Tourism Co.

Managed by Highgate, which also manages AC Hotel San Juan and the Embassy Suites San Juan Hotel & Casino for Interlink, the Residence Inn offers 231 suites, with fully equipped kitchens with refrigerator, stove, microwave and sink, a work area with desk and a separate living room, either with a King bed and a sofa bed, or two queen beds; and amenities such as: two swimming pools, one of them for children with a playground, fountains and slides; two bars, gym equipped with Technogym gear, complimentary breakfast, meeting space, and free Wi-Fi.
The culinary offer includes the Sobao restaurant, a Puerto Rican bakery that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and features a large terrace under a grove.

A real example of excellent hospitality!
Without a doubt one of the best Puerto Rican bed and breakfasts to stay during your vacation in the Old San Juan Historic District. Both my wife and I were born and raised in Puerto Rico but moved to the US a few years ago. We recently visited the island for a friend’s wedding and decided to make it a tourist type trip as well. Upon arrival, their friendly staff and General Manager greeted us warmly and helped us settle in immediately. The hotel is centrally located and in a quiet street close to many restaurants, beautiful scenery and historical sites. We loved the fact that the hotel only has 9rooms, all of them very comfortable, local artwork displayed on their walls, their antique furniture, rooftop patio, among other amazing amenities.
Absolutely recommend this hotel to everyone.

This hotel is very much like a dream. The location is great, close to the center of Old San Juan and also a block from the passage to the outer wall.
A very beautiful hotel. It was very clean and beautiful. There was a seating area with a roof which was also great for relaxing while drinking wine. Very good hotel. They had breakfast every morning and waited at our hand and feet if we needed anything. Each room has a tablet computer to take requests if necessary. We will definitely be back and returning guests will receive a 10 percent discount which makes it even better! nine0005

This place is amazing! I stayed at villa herencia for a week and wished i could stay longer! Very friendly staff. Especially one member of staff named Christian, he recommended great places to eat, let us wash our clothes at the facility after they got on a dirty hike and much more. In addition, this place looks very cool and is closed! The rooftop deck is elegant and perfect for lounging! In addition, my husband and I were able to walk to every single thing in Old San Juan and sometimes needed extra allotment, so the location is super-convenient.

Hands down, this is the best place to stay in Old San Juan. It is ideally located in one of the quiet neighborhoods of old San Juan, near the governor’s mansion. It is steps away from the famous cathedral, the forts named as National Treasures and the San Juan Gate and a trail that sits right on the water.
The hotel itself is beautifully appointed and provides an authentic cultural experience (with the exception of the outstanding AC there are private rooms). It’s all open, the fountain, the upper deck under the stars you can hope to find. Perhaps equally important every time we stayed the staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful with restaurant recommendations and sites to see. It is an absolute gem and of all the places we have traveled and stayed at, Villa Herencia in Old San Juan is undoubtedly my favorite. nine0005

We stayed there in January 2011 before the cruise and it was great. It’s quiet, around the corner, from the Inn path, which is to be experienced. The charm of Old San Juan is just a few steps away to explore, but we had an incredible evening sitting on the hotel’s rooftop, being serenaded by a local guitarist in the plaza below. The staff was better than very nice and helpful. In fact they let us keep our luggage for our return from the cruise even though we didn’t stay overnight again. As I wish I could go back there and when I do I will stay at Villa Herencia. nine0005

Our wonderful experience started before we arrived when we emailed a question and the hotel manager emailed us back and sent all kinds of great information about Puerto Rico . It was a lovely little space with roof top patio. We stayed in one of the two rooms and it was a pleasant surprise. Close enough to many attractions but on a very quiet cobbled street which after visiting Old San Juan was a huge bonus.
