HOW TO GET FROM CHARLES DE GAULE AIRPORT TO THE CENTER OF PARIS from the city – Orly Airport) and one of the largest airports in Europe. nine0003

The huge airport serves about 150,000 passengers daily, or about 60 million passengers a year. Every day it receives and sends over 1400 flights from more than 100 airlines.

The airport is also the largest international hub of Air France and Delta. Many long-haul (especially transcontinental) destinations are much more affordable in the economic sense, while the transfer from Aeroflot and Rossiya flights is very successfully implemented. If you fly from Moscow or St. Petersburg early in the morning, you will have time for almost all other flights to America, Asia, and Africa. nine0003

Many travelers note that it is possible to get lost here – if you are not used to it, you will not immediately understand all the numerous terminals.

Charles de Gaulle airport terminals

Airport has three terminals, one of which T2 consists of seven separate terminals. In addition, there is a separate area where shopping centers, hotels, etc. are located.

  • Terminal T1 – central, flights depart from here within the Schengen zone and beyond, including to Washington, Tokyo, Cairo. See diagram here. nine0271
  • Terminal T2 is a complex of buildings in which 7 terminals are located at once: 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F, 2G. It serves international and domestic flights. All terminals are located within walking distance from each other, except for the 2G terminal – you will need to take a free shuttle to get there (see the free shuttle traffic patterns below). Subterminal schemes:

2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F,

  • Terminal T3 serves low-cost airlines and charter flights. The arrivals and departures areas are located in different buildings. See the map of the arrivals and departures area.

The connection between the terminals is provided by free Navettes Aeroport shuttle buses running every seven minutes. For detailed information on how to get between the terminals of Charles de Gaulle Airport, see here .

Hotels within Charles de Gaulle Airport

There are a total of six hotels on the territory of the airport, and about 10 more in the vicinity of the airport.

  • ibis Paris CDG Airport
  • ibis Styles Paris CDG Airport Roissy
  • Novotel Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport
  • YOTELAIR Paris CDG – Transit Hotel
  • Sheraton Paris Roissy Airport

Tax free

Charles de Gaulle Airport has several VAT refund points for purchases. For tax-free registration, it is necessary to certify the forms issued upon purchase at customs, and then present them together with checks at the points located:

– Terminal 1: CDGVAL level, hall 6
– Terminal 2A: departures level (Départs), gate 5
– Terminal 2C: departures level (Départs), gate 4
– Terminal 2E: departures level (Départs), gate 8
-Terminal 2F: Arrivals level (Arrivées)
-Terminal 3: Departures level (Départs), international customs area.

Please note that queues at VAT refund points can be long and you should arrive at the airport early to count on receiving the money. nine0003

The airport is located 23 kilometers northeast of Paris. There are several ways to get from the airport to the city: commuter train, bus, taxi. You can also drive a car directly from the airport.

RER

The fastest and most convenient mode of transport is the RER electric train (Line B).

From the airport to the center of Paris go blue line B , trains in the direction of Paris (Robinson, Antony, St-Rémy-les-Chevreuse). The station is located near terminals T2 and T3. In terminal T2, the station is called “Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 – TGV”; in Terminal 3 – “Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1”. How to get to the terminal you need, see here. nine0003

From terminal T2 or T3 you need to walk to the railway station. Follow signs for RER.

In Paris, line “B” trains pass through the stations of Gare du Nord, Châtelet – Les Halles (here you can transfer to 4 metro lines and 3 other RER lines), Denfert – Rochereau, Cité Universitaire.

Train ticket price: EUR 10.30, EUR 7 (children 4-9 years old), free for children under 4 years old.

nine0002 Train interval: every 12 minutes from 4:56 to 23:40.

You can buy a ticket at the machine by paying with a bank card or small change (the machines for changing banknotes are also located there). In the hall there are machines of two colors – blue and yellow. For a trip to Paris, you need to choose a blue machine. The ticket you need to choose when buying from the machine is called “ Billets Ile-de-France” “Aéroport CDG – Paris (Zone 5 -> Zone 1) “.

Tickets can also be bought at the regular box office, but there are usually long queues. One way ticket is called “Paris Aller-Simple”, ticket price when purchased at the box office – the same.

After purchasing your ticket, follow signs “Trains en direction de Paris” and you will be on the platform.

With the purchased ticket, you can also continue your journey on the metro or on another RER line, if the trip is made within 90 minutes from the time the ticket was activated and you did not leave the metro through the turnstiles.

Suburban RER trains are not subways. They connect the center of Paris with its airports and suburbs. RER train lines pass through many train stations and connect conveniently with major metro lines for transfers. See a detailed diagram of all commuter trains here. nine0003

Those who are already familiar with Paris and its rules fit in 45-50 minutes from the moment of receiving the suitcases to arrival in the city. But for beginners, this procedure takes almost 1.5 hours, so keep this in mind when planning your schedule.

If your goal is to visit other cities in France or Europe, then the railway station with trains TGV is at your service, located between terminals 2E-2F and 2C-2D. You can view the timetable and buy a ticket for Paris trains on the website of the official partner raileurope.com

By bus

This option is more convenient for those who want to save money and have a lot of luggage with which you cannot take a walk on the metro. The cost of tickets for this transport is not much higher than the option with the train.

Taxi

Taxi ranks are located at all terminals of Charles de Gaulle Airport, they are easy to find by the signs:

T1: Gate 24 on the Arrivals floor
T2A: Gate 6
T2C: Gate 14
T2D: Gate 7 on the Arrivals floor
T2E: Gate 12 on the Arrivals floor
T2F: Gate 11 on the Arrivals floor
T3: Gate on the Arrivals floor
T2G: Blue exit

If you order a taxi directly from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, the cost of the trip will be higher – 50 euros plus you will be charged an additional fee for carrying luggage. In Paris, it is also customary to leave a couple of euro tips. nine0003

At the airport, it is very common to “warm hands” on tourists who have arrived in France for the first time. There is an effective way not to get into a mess with “extra-tariffs”. One of the most effective alternatives is to call a taxi via the Internet. It is quite possible to catch a taxi at the terminal, but with this option, all the risks are transferred to the passenger, the cost of a taxi can cost you 2 times more than the real fare. That is why it is advisable to place a pre-order in the search form below. You will receive an order confirmation by e-mail, and the driver will be waiting at the exit from the arrivals area with a sign with your name on it. Also, the driver can help you with your luggage, and payment of the full cost will be made only after arriving at the place, which you will already know when booking a taxi. nine0263

By rental car

If you like to drive a car and intend to travel frequently in the vicinity of Paris or in France, then it makes sense to rent a car, especially since you can do it right at the airport.
