The distillery is accessible by car or by ferry from Old San Juan. The ferry departs from Pier 2 in Old San Juan every 30 minutes and costs 50 cents each way. Upon arrival at Cataño pier, look for taxis on the right at the bus station. Casa BACARDÍ is a 2-mile taxi ride away.

I wanted the chocolate tour but it wasn’t for 1. 5 hours. Bacardi graciously let me switch to a mixology tour which at first I didn’t want but my taxi was waiting for me the entire time. To not abuse the taxi driver’s kindness I took earlier tour for mixology, and I really enjoyed it. I’m glad I switched to mixology.
Tour guide was friendly and informative. It was a very fun tour, and it included 3 drinks. 🙂

PGay life in Huerto Rico is centered around the capital, San Juan. The city has a lively gay scene for all tastes. The island is the perfect place for those who want to enjoy the unique culture, cuisine and nightlife.

Other parts of the island, including Cabo Rojo to the west and Vique Island off the east coast, are also popular with gay visitors.

Gay Puerto Rico – Rights

Gay Puerto Rico – US Territory. Expect to find the same openness and rights that you will see in the rest of the United States. The island has legalized gay marriage, making it an attractive destination for LGBTI travelers from all over the world.

Getting to Puerto Rico

Gay Puerto Rico is a fast flight from the US South. The dollar is the local currency. There are also direct flights from Europe and Latin America. Taxi and train fares are the best way to get to the San Juan Hotel for about US$20.

Taxis, which can be found everywhere, are also reasonable, costing around $15 for most trips around the city. There are independent mini-buses “públicos”, locally called “guaguas”, that carry 10 to 14 people on the main highways, with set routes but no set schedule – often enough that you don’t have to wait long.

Weather in Gay Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico has a tropical climate that practically guarantees beach weather during your trip! The weather stays between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit all year long, and with almost 300 miles of coastline, you can enjoy the sunshine at any time.

The high season on the island is from November to February (the holiday season on the island is about the same), so if you are planning your stay on these dates, be sure to book your hotel in advance!

Gay San Juan – Capital

Condado San Juan, home to many of the city’s gay bars and clubs.

Puerto Rio is the island you’ll want to explore and most visitors will start their journey in the capital, San Juan. There’s a lot to see and do in the city, so it’s worth spending a few days exploring the popular areas of Old San Juan. Santurce and Condado are in the gay center of San Juan.

The following areas of Puerto Rico are the most popular with foreign visitors.

• The old town, with its cobbled streets and Spanish architecture, is compact and easy to walk around.
• Condado has become more gentrified over the past few years, and this is where you’ll find the gay beach scene.
• Santurce is full of energy and has five LGBT clubs on Calle Condado between Ponce de León and Carmen and six more in the east, around Ponce de León between Diego and San Jorge. People gather in the bars and clubs around La Placita to buy cheap drinks and delicious street food.
• Ocean Park is mostly a residential area, but it has a few gay-owned hotels. Its beach is one of the best and it is never crowded.
• Isla Verde is where the old money crowd lives. This is a dense area, but there are some wonderful resorts and boutique hotels.

Tip! When visiting bars outside of the tourist areas of Old San Juan and Condado, always take a taxi back and forth. Make sure the bar is open before your taxi, as clubs in and out of Santurz tend to open and close without much notice.

From San Juan, you can take an eight-seat flight across Cape Air, flying over the lush green El Yunque National Forest – a magnificent, unforgettable experience.

After landing, you rent a bright red 4X4 Jeep to get around the island. A sleepy island paradise, Vieques is organic and authentic. Think barefoot on the beach and delicious authentic cuisine at chic yet simple restaurants.
