Beach near puerto princesa airport: Featuring: The Nearest Beaches in Puerto Princesa City Proper

Featuring: The Nearest Beaches in Puerto Princesa City Proper

/ Ranil Guarino

If ever you’re a beach person who happens to be in Puerto Princesa for a vacation or any other purpose with your accommodation located in the city proper, don’t feel disappointed because the city is surrounded by beach on both east and west coasts. The ones I’m featuring in this article are those which are reachable within 15 minutes or less from Km 0 of city proper. Now, these may not be the best beaches in Palawan, but they  are  surely the most easily accessed especially if you don’t have the luxury of time.

1. White Beach– Definitely the nearest in city proper. Travel time: 10 minutes or less You just pay 20 pesos entrance fee. Composed by Nasin-aw and Silica Beaches, this used to be a favorite beach of mine: white sand, torquoise water and less seagrass. But it’s nearness in the city has its toll. I have observed over the years how this once beautiful beach slowly lost its charm. The construction of a new baywalk  to replace the nearby squatters area that polluted the beach over time , I hope, would do a good favor and restore this beach.

2. Princesa Garden

A stretch of beach located in Bancao-bancao was once my secret beach where very few people know and go but now is lined with resorts and this one is the beachfront of the Princesa Garden , a 5-star resort. Travel time: 10 minutes. No entrance fee

3. Kalayaan Beach– Located inside the military base camp and facing the east coast. Gives tourist a good sunrise view. Travel time: 15 minutes. No entrance fee

4. BM Beach– Also facing the east coast, has very shallow water stretching for about a kilometer. Like all the near east coast beaches, has water not so ideal for swimming. Travel time: 15 minutes and one has to pay 20 pesos entrance fee

5. Chez Rose– also a beach found in the near east coastline. Chez Rose has a bar, retaurant and beach party events. Travel time: 15 minutes. 20 pesos entrance fees

6. Clark Beach- a family owned and maintained beach. You and your group may book the entire place and stay over night for some sort of camping or other activities.                  Travel time: 15 minutes. Entrance fee: 20 pesos

7. Blue Palawan- aside from being a beach front, this place has an infinity pool, native style architecture, beach village- designed huts and serves good food.                            Travel time: 15 minutes

8. Emerald Beach- the beach now is divided by two resorts: Emerald Playa and Microtel. If you go to Emerald Playa, you pay an 80 pesos entrance consumable. Microtel is open if you want to check out the place, have coffee, dine in the restaurant or swim in their pool (for a fee of course). Nice beach view, sunrise and that hammock in between two coconuts just makes me wanna doze off. Travel time: 15 minutes.

The Secret Beach is one of the top beaches in El Nido included in an El Nido island hopping tour. The beach can be found in between the towering limestone cliffs. 12. Las Cabanas Beach (El Nido)

Las Cabanas Beach, located 2.6 KM from El Nido town proper, is a must-see for its lovely sunsets. Las Cabanas is a nickname based on the resort situated here, but it’s more locally known as Marimegmeg Island. Several bars and eateries border the beach.

11. Seven Commandos Beach (El Nido)

The 320-meter Seven Commandos Beach has a lengthy stretch of pure white sand beneath the stunning El Nido limestone cliffs and a line of swaying coconut trees. The shore at Seven Commandos Beach is large enough for visitors to play beach sports like volleyball and frisbee.

The beach is particularly noted for its calm waves. After a long day of kayaking in the lagoons, you can unwind by the crystal-clear seas of Seven Commandos Beach. It also has abundant marine life underwater, which makes it an excellent location for snorkeling if you’re yet to try scuba diving in El Nido.

10. Pinagbuyutan Island (El Nido)

Pinagbuyutan Island is a rare gem of El Nido, Palawan often included in El Nido tours. This island is more known for its unique shape than its white sand beach. From afar, this island looks like one giant rock sitting in the middle of Bacuit Bay of Palawan. As you draw closer to the island, one will see that its whole landscape is made of pure limestone cliffs.

These steep walls are all natural and have been formed more than 125 million years ago. Because of the presence of limestones, Pinagbuyutan Island is locally called Inabuyatan Island which means Enchanted Island when translated to the local language.

9. Banana Island (Coron)

Dicalabuan Island, also known as Banana Island, is one of Coron’s family-friendly islands and a popular destination for both locals and visitors. It’s frequently paired with island hopping trips to Bulog Dos and Malcapuya Islands.

  • Check out our list of the best resorts in Coron

Locals gave the island the moniker “Banana Island” because when viewed from a distance, it is said to resemble a golden fruit. Fine white sand, sparkling seas, mangrove plants, and granite formations make the island a lovely place.

Because of its shallow seas, children may be able to swim freely. Banana Island is often included in Coron tour packages, making it a family-friendly attraction.

6. Black Island (Busuanga)

Black Island is Palawan’s biggest island in the Calamian Group of Islands, located northwest of Busuanga Island. It’s called “Black Island” by the locals because the massive limestone rock structure in the island’s center seems to be dark and scary from afar.

Black Island, however, is a delightful paradise of immaculate white sand beaches, cave pools, and turquoise seas. It’s ideal for travelers that enjoy outdoor activities such as trekking, cave exploration, snorkeling, or a relaxing day at the beach.

5. Snake Island (El Nido)

Snake Island, officially known as Vigan Island, is a very popular beach destination located in El Nido, Palawan. The name of the island was informally changed by the locals to what it is called now because of its unique curve that resembles a snake.

The S-shaped sandbar here, which is approximately 3 KM long, serves as the connection of mainland Palawan to the islet. The small island, which is often included in an El Nido island hopping tour, is best visited during low tide when the unique, white sandbar is most walkable and visible.

Concealed by towering limestone formations, the Hidden Beach looks like a natural infinity pool. As its name suggests, this beach can’t be seen from the open sea. There is an imposing cliff that seems to “guard” the place from the eyes of the world outside. To get there, you have to swim, with its waters starting to lower to knee-deep levels as you approach the beach. The rocks and coral can scratch you as you approach; you can try floating instead to minimize the chances.

Puerto Princesa – Philippines: photos, airport, hotels, attractions, how to get there

  • Updated: December 01, 2018
  • on the map

Puerto Princesa (Puerto Princesa, Puerto Princesa) is the capital of the island of Palawan. Located in the center of the eastern part of the island. The total area is 2381 sq. km. The local population is 255,000 people.

The city is named after Princess Eulalia de Bourbon, who founded it during the 1872 expedition. For several centuries it has been the center of trade and industry and the most developed in Palawan. It has all the infrastructure with large shopping centers, hotels, restaurants (including fast food – McDonald and Jollibee), bars, shops, ATMs, etc. There is even a small nightlife with clubs (probably the only place on the island).

Why go. Features of the city

The beaches within the city are not suitable for swimming, so this type of recreation is no longer available.

Usually, Puerto Princesa is used as a transit base for one night for the subsequent trip to the western resorts of Palawan, primarily in El Nido. And this is justified, because if you arrived in the afternoon, you will get to the resort very late, spending (in addition to the flight) another 4-5 hours on the bus. Therefore, it is easier to spend the night in the capital, and in the morning, fresh and vigorous, hit the road.

The city is also a starting point for sightseeing in the surrounding area, especially the Underground River. You can buy a tour at local travel agencies, or you can go there on your own from the San Jose bus station.

Puerto Princesa itself also has attractions: several temples, the Palawan Museum, a promenade with a park. You can see them in a couple of hours.

It makes no sense to stay here longer than a few days, there is nothing special to do. If there was no international airport here, then tourists would probably not stop by at all.

Puerto Princesa on the map of the Philippines

How to get to Puerto Princesa

Puerto Princesa Airport is located 2 km north of the city center (we showed it on the map above), where you can get from Russia, Ukraine and the CIS countries with transfer only. It is better to do this in Seoul or Taipei (Taiwan), because. from these cities there are direct flights to Palawan.

You can fly to Manila or Cebu, from where there are a dozen flights a day to Puerto Princesa. It also receives direct flights from Clark Luzon, Busuangi, Iloilo.

In general, look at different options and choose either by flight time or by price.

The airport is small, with only one terminal, where the arrival and departure area is located. There is a currency exchange, ATMs, you can buy a Philippine SIM card.

Cheap air tickets to Puerto Princesa

You can buy air tickets as profitably as possible with the help of special search engines that collect data from all airlines.

You can get from the airport to the city by tricycles, which stand next to the exit from the arrivals area. They usually charge 100 pesos.

If you don’t have luggage, you can walk to the city center in half an hour (before the old terminal was generally in the city center, but the new one was built a little to the north).

If you plan to go directly from the airport to El Nido, then in the high season you can wait for a minivan that goes there for 500 pesos per person. In the low season from June to October, they may not be, because. the tourist flow is small (or you will have to wait several hours for departure).

Alternatively, take a tricycle for 150 pesos to the San Jose bus station, from which buses and minivans depart almost every hour to El Nido. The bus fare is around 450 pesos.

To quickly and comfortably get from the airport to the hotel (no matter where it is – in Puerto Princesa or in resorts), you can take a taxi. Or rent a car online in advance for the entire stay in Palawan (we did not see car rental desks in the arrivals area).

Transport of Puerto Princesa

Jeepneys

Public transport is represented by jeepneys, which may look different, but all are united by one or two parallel benches for passengers.

They walk along the main streets of the city and in the suburbs. For tourists, only the route to the San Jose bus station is interesting (get off those jeepneys that say San Jose). The fare costs 13-15 pesos, depending on where you started from.

In the city center, where all the sights are concentrated, you can move around on foot.

Puerto Princesa Tricycles

These tricycles with a sidecar and a roof are a local taxi option (since there are no real air-conditioned cars with a meter).

The price is negotiable, for locals – one, for tourists – 2-3 times more expensive. Previously, it was possible to take them to the San Jose bus station for 60 pesos, now tourists are asked for at least 150 pesos.

San Jose Bus Station

This is the main bus station in Palawan. For tourists, it is interesting for those who leave buses and minivans to El Nido, Port Barton, San Vicente and Sabang.

You can get to the San Jose bus station by jeepney for 13-15 pesos, or by tricycle (10 times more expensive, but pay not per person, but for the entire vehicle).

It is even easier to get from the bus station back to the city. jeepneys are waiting for passengers right on it, drivers invite not only locals, but also tourists. That’s how we got there (paying 13 pesos to Rizal street).

The bus station is shown by us on the map above.

Things to do. Attractions

Puerto Princesa is the best place in Palawan for entertainment and nightlife. Nowhere else on the island you will find so many bars (there are also girls), restaurants and clubs. But we must understand that this is in comparison with the resorts of Palawan, where there is nothing at all. Here, at least somewhere you can go after sunset.

The capital is also the cheapest place for shopping, there are a couple of shopping centers with supermarkets. Halfway to the bus station is Robinson.

But Puerto Princesa is not rich in sights. The two main ones are on Rizal Street – the Palawan Museum and the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, built in 1872.

12:00 to 13:30. Here you can get acquainted with the history of the island, from prehistoric times to the present, there are various artifacts of the past.

Entrance for foreigners – 60 pesos.

Next to the museum is a small Mendoza Park with a statue, which was built in honor of the resistance fighters against the Japanese occupation.

You can also visit the city park on the waterfront.

In the vicinity of the capital there are a butterfly farm, a crocodile farm, Tabon caves.

Beaches in Puerto Princesa

Nobody swims in the city. On the west coast there is a port in general, and next to it is an embankment.

To swim, you will have to rent a motorbike (by the way, rental is almost not developed) and drive around the surroundings. The nearest beaches of Puerto Princesa are half an hour away: Pristine Beach and BM Beach.

Video

The climate of Puerto Princesa

The climate of Puerto Princesa is tropical. The best time for a trip is from November to mid-March, when it is most comfortable – during the day + 28 … + 30, at night + 23 … + 25 degrees. In April and May it is 4-6 degrees hotter. Precipitation is rare.

The rainy season lasts from June to the end of October, peaking in the summer months. The temperature during the day is about +32 degrees, at night it is 5-6 degrees cooler.

Hotels in Puerto Princesa

In Puerto Princesa, all hotels are of urban type and are buildings of various heights, usually 2-4 storey.

Quite a lot of 4-star hotels, although the middle class is more represented – 2 and 3 stars.

If you want to see the sights of the capital, it is better to settle in the city. But if you just want to live in silence and in nature, then it is better to choose options in the vicinity. It doesn’t make sense to stop near the San Jose bus station (to go to the resorts of Palawan in the morning) – although there are several hotels there, you can always drive inexpensively from the city to the bus station by jeepney in 15 minutes.
