1. Crete, Greece

Crete is the largest and most popular island in Greece, a real pearl of the Mediterranean. Every season, thousands of tourists come here, and everyone has their own goals: some are on excursions to the places of ancient cultures and heroes of myths, and some are just to soak up, sunbathe on the seashore.

Photo author – Alessandro

For the latter, many excellent hotels have been built here and almost as many luxurious beaches have been prepared, and for curious natures, they are always ready to organize a trip to famous sights: the ruins of the Knossos labyrinth, the Malian Palace, the Arcadia Monastery, the Gramvousa Fortress . .. And how many historical and archaeological museums are here! In general, you still need to find so much time to get to know everything properly.

April 27, 2018

All the beaches of Crete and do not count. But the most popular are Elafonisi with its pink sands and the purest transparent sea, Vai and its date grove, as well as Balos, an old pirate bay, where the remains of sunken ships and an ancient fortress have survived to this day.

Another notable feature of the island is the kitchen. Restaurants delight their guests with the best Greek cuisine, as well as Mediterranean seafood dishes. And what kind of wine is made here! Vacationers always take one or two bottles with them, and local vineyards have already won their fame in the world.

2. Dubrovnik, Croatia

Croatian Dubrovnik is rightfully considered one of the most attractive resorts of the Adriatic: it successfully combines picturesque nature, clean beaches and is one of the three most beautiful cities in Europe of the Renaissance according to UNESCO. And now about everything in order.

Photo author – Calli and Travis

Dubrovnik has always been famous for its excellent ecology, pleasant, warm climate and, of course, the cleanest sea. It is this corner of the Adriatic that is considered the cleanest, as Jacques Yves Cousteau himself told the world a long time ago. All this became the basis for the fact that Dubrovnik turned into a huge resort with all the necessary infrastructure: huge beaches, luxury hotels, hotel complexes, many restaurants, cafes and clubs, and with them daily shows, concerts, discos – in general, life does not stop here for a minute.

The two most popular beaches in the city are Lapad and Bane, they are clean and have everything you need for a comfortable stay. And Bane also offers a wonderful view of Lokrum Island

The city makes you fall in love with its atmosphere, and therefore it is not surprising that thousands of Europeans and not only love to come here so much.

3. Ibiza, Spain

Now hold on tight – let’s go to Ibiza! Well, who among us has not heard of Ibiza?! Perhaps every young and incendiary European at least once in his life visited this real island of freedom and fun and came off to the fullest. Without exaggeration, Ibiza is the brightest and most cheerful resort not only in Spain, but throughout Europe, where parties do not stop day and night. Discos, parties, concerts, light shows, festivals – from June to September you will not wait for silence here.

But in spring and autumn, more respectable Europeans come here for a quiet, peaceful holiday. Few people can imagine, but in Ibiza you can have a great vacation with children – yes, yes, do not hesitate. In the north of the island there are many wonderful secluded resorts where you can have a great one or two quiet weeks with your family. For example, in the town of Portinatx or Santa Eularia da Rio, where everything is created for a comfortable and relaxing vacation.

There are 18 large beaches in Ibiza. Cala Benirras is ideal for those who go to rock: musicians and other creative youth gather here to have fun, and in August, a drum festival takes place right on the waterfront. Lovers of quiet places will like Cala de Portinatx in a picturesque bay, Cala de San Vincent or Punta Grossa. Diving enthusiasts will like Cala Harraca, and by the way, you can also take mud baths near the beach for free.

4. Sicily, Italy

And again we go to the island, only now to Italy, to the famous Sicily. To say that this is a piece of paradise is to say nothing: the island is washed by three seas at once – the Mediterranean, Tyrrhenian and Ionian, has many small picturesque islands around. It is full of beautiful sights, pristine, pure nature and, of course, hundreds of restaurants with delicious Italian cuisine. In general, you probably shouldn’t tell you that it’s never empty here – European travelers adore Sicily.

The best beaches on the island are Mondello in Palermo, Cefalu in its vicinity, as well as Isola Bella and Santa Teresa di Riva in Taormina. It is noteworthy that there is something to see near the beaches. So, not far from Mondello there is an excellent promenade of Foro Italico, and near Cefalu there is the Royal Palace and the regional park Parco delle Madonie.

5. Budva, Montenegro

Budva is a real pearl of Montenegro, which is also called “Montenegrin Miami”. Of all the resorts that we have listed, Budva will probably be the most versatile and, importantly, one of the most accessible for vacationers. There is everything here: for outdoor enthusiasts – sports grounds, tennis courts, diving, water walks.

Author of the photo – Thomas Amsaleg

Lovers of nightlife will not be bored either: discos, bars, parties, shows – life in Budva cannot be called boring. For families and supporters of a relaxing holiday, the Montenegrin coast has prepared more than a dozen quiet, hidden beaches and playgrounds, and for inquisitive travelers there is the Old Town with its wonderful architecture and numerous museums.

TOP 5 resorts in Montenegro: the pros and cons of each of them

June 25, 2021

Well, now back to the beaches, because no one can refuse them when they come to rest on the Adriatic coast. In total, there are about 35 beaches in Budva, 8 of them are marked with a blue flag (the sign of a clean, eco-friendly beach from FEE). The Slovenska Plaza beach is considered the longest and most popular. Morgen, located at the foot of the rocks, and Pizan, which settled near the Budva River, are also worth a look.

6. Nice, France

Speaking of the beaches of Europe, of course, one cannot but mention Nice – the heart of the Côte d’Azur. Life in Nice “boils” no less than in Paris. Europeans love the city because here you can perfectly combine a vacation by the sea with an interesting pastime in one of the cultural centers of France.

The main central beach of Nice is located near the Promenade des Anglais, but due to its central location it is always crowded with tourists. But it’s okay, in the eastern part of the city there are still about 20-30 picturesque, clean beaches (private and public), equipped with everything you need and even volleyball courts.

There are also excellent beaches outside the city: La Reserve next to Vigier Park and Coco Beach near Cap Ferrat. But spending all the time in Nice on the beaches is an unforgivable mistake. Rather, go for a walk along Rosetti Square, look into the picturesque harbor, admire the City Hall and the Notre Dame Basilica. And, of course, do not pass by museums, there are more than a dozen of them in Nice – a couple will be of interest to everyone.

7. Leiria, Portugal

Lisbon and Porto are no doubt good, but the really great place for a beach holiday in Portugal is the Leiria region. It has everything you need for a great holiday and is located in the Nazare area and on the island of Berlenga Grande.

Nazare confidently tops the ranking of the best beaches in central Portugal. A clean, well-groomed beach, many restaurants, cafes, shops, entertainment centers – and all this on the picturesque coast of the Atlantic Ocean. And if you drive a little north from Nazare (literally 500-700 meters), you can get into a wonderful surf spot with incredible waves, where you can ride a couple of them yourself or just admire while sitting on the shore.

Berlenga Grande Island is perfect for diving and surfing. The water here is very clean and clear, great for underwater excursions. And those who stay on land will also have something to admire, because the beach is comfortably hidden behind 3 rocks and the landscapes from here are simply incredible.

8. San Remo

San Remo is another place chosen by Europeans on the Mediterranean coast. Both families with children and groups of friends like to come here from spring to autumn; everyone will definitely find something to do here. The city’s beaches are clean and well maintained, the water is also clean – in other words, an ideal place to relax.

Most of the coastline has all the conditions for outdoor activities – water skiing, motorcycles, sailing boats and parachuting, scuba diving and boat trips. There is something to please and lovers of shopping: dozens of boutiques, salons, antique shops, perfume shops, ceramic workshops and pastry shops.

9. Costa Brava, Spain

One of our last stops on our trip to European resorts will be the Costa Brava in northwest Catalonia. This is one of the most beautiful parts of the Mediterranean, where excellent resort areas for recreation are concentrated. Tourists come to the Costa Brava who want not only to swim and sunbathe, but also to admire nature, and it deserves it here.

Pyrenean cliffs and forts, covered with pines and firs, hide incredible bays, bays with azure waves and white sands. Eh, what can I say, nature did its best, and so far people have not had time to spoil it all. And they won’t spoil it, because the authorities and various international organizations strictly observe the coast.

Photo author – Jaume CP BCN

Tossa de Mar, Blanes, Lloret de Mar – all these small towns are located on the Costa Brava, and in whichever of them you stop, know that you will not regret it. Everywhere there is something to admire and something to try, as this region is especially famous for the production of liqueurs and wines. And be sure to try the local national dish “maar and mutanya”, which means “sea and mountains” in translation.

10. Paphos, Cyprus

The name speaks for itself. Paphos is a place for lovers of beautiful life and secluded relaxation. As you probably already guessed, Paphos is not the cheapest resort on the Mediterranean, but what attracts thousands of tourists here so much?! And the answer is simple – a lot of clean beaches, excellent service in recreation areas, hundreds of restaurants and entertainment complexes (perhaps even more than in the whole of Cyprus) and many, many ancient monuments of history and culture.

Paphos is under the protection of UNESCO, which means that it is worth not only lying on the beach and drinking cocktails all day, but also getting to know the sights, of which there are many. The royal tombs, the villa of Theseus, the catacombs of Solomon and the place where, according to legend, the goddess Aphrodite herself emerged from the foam.

Paphos would be a great option for relaxing with a loved one or in a good company of friends, but not with children, because the infrastructure for children’s entertainment is not particularly developed here. All efforts are aimed only at satisfying the wishes of the young with the body and soul of vacationers.
