Best pina colada mix: 7 Best Pina Colada Mixes To Drink in 2023

7 Best Pina Colada Mixes To Drink in 2023

The tasty cocktail, the pina colada, was first created in the 1950s in Puerto Rico. A bartender blended coconut cream, pineapple, and rum, and a crowd favorite was born.

In the years following, at-home bartenders have sought to recreate the magic of the first pina colada, and companies that specialize in beverage mixers have stepped up to help.

A pina colada has a distinct tropical taste and is reminiscent of hot days spent by the ocean.

Even popular music has referenced pina colada–like Garth Brooks’ “Two Pina Coladas” and Rupert Holmes’s “Escape (The Pina Colada Song).” The popularity of this cocktail has seeped into mainstream culture.

We have reviewed the pina colada mixes that are available for purchase and have developed this comprehensive list of the seven best pina colada mixes on the market.

Best Pina Colada Mixes

Take our word for it, combining these mixers with rum and blending will be the best choice you make all summer! Grab the right rum for a pina colada and these mixers for a good time!

Zing Zang Piña Colada Mix

Zing Zang Piña Colada Cocktail Mix combines pineapple juice and natural coconut flavor to create the signature taste of a pina colada.

It is refreshing and tropical. You can make a cocktail by adding your favorite white or spiced rum to the blend.

You can serve the mix over ice or blended. The recommended combination is three ounces of Zing Zang Piña Colada Mix and one ounce of rum, then garnish the finished product with a cherry.

Zing Zang has been producing cocktail mixes since 1997 and gained popularity through word of mouth via bartenders in local pubs.

The company began by creating a bloody mary mix, but by 2018 had expanded into other cocktail mixes, sold in thirty-two-ounce bottles and eight-ounce cans.

Margaritaville Pina Colada

Jimmy Buffett is the master of the margarita, so it makes sense that this beach bum turned singing sensation would branch out into the world of creating other tropical cocktail mixers.

The Margaritaville company has even made a beverage blending machine that shaves ice and incorporates it into a blended cocktail for at-home bartenders.

The Margaritaville Pina Colada mix is best used with light rum and a splash of pineapple juice; most people serve the blended concoction with a cherry and an orange slice.

Notably, the company even sells Margaritaville Pina Colada Drink Mix singles that you can mix for individual cocktails.

Naked Pina Colada

The Naked brand might be a non-traditional choice for a cocktail mixer.

Still, the blend of pineapple, apple, banana, creamy coconut milk, and orange juice creates a complex and delicious pina colada.

The Naked Pina Colada fruit smoothie has no sugar added and seven grams of fiber!

To make a cocktail with Naked Pina Colada, add a few ounces of rum and blend the fruit smoothie and alcohol with ice until incorporated.

It is best enjoyed blended. The Naked Company has been selling fresh juices and blended smoothies since 1983, when the company first began in Santa Monica, California.

Jordan’s Skinny Mixes Piña Colada

Jordan’s Skinny Piña Colada Mix is known for its low caloric amount and reduced added sugar.

The mix has thirty calories and five grams of sugar for one serving. It is both gluten-free and kosher.

Jordan’s Skinny Piña Colada Mix is perfect when paired with rum or vodka, frozen or on the rocks. It is also an ideal addition to a mocktail menu.

About a decade ago, the company saw a need for low-calorie options in the cocktail market and launched its Skinny Margarita.

Since then, Jordan’s Skinny Mixes and other syrups have rapidly gained popularity. You can purchase these mixes online or at various package stores across the United States and Canada.

Mr & Mrs. T Piña Colada Mix

Mr & Mrs. T Piña Colada Mix is one of the dozens of beverage mixers that the company produces.

The pina colada mix is within the Tropical Mixes line alongside bellini and Mai Tai.

The pina colada mix is delicious when mixed with rum and garnished with a cherry or slice of pineapple.

Herb and June Taylor are the namesakes of the company. The pair began selling their Bloody Mary mix in 1960, and the brand became well known in the Los Angeles, California region.

Mr & Mrs. T became a country-wide phenomenon when American Airlines began exclusively using their cocktail mixes during flights.

Island Oasis Piña Colada Fruit Puree

The Island Oasis Piña Colada Mix is often used by bartenders and is best used in the company’s signature blending machine.

The pina colada mix is made with cane sugar, pineapple, and coconut. What’s great is that the mix does not contain artificial flavors or preservatives! It is gluten-free, dairy-free, and kosher certified.

Island Oasis has been selling drink mixes since the mid-1980s, and the pink and teal logo is reminiscent of that period.

In addition to the pina colada mix, Island Oasis also offers strawberry, mango, and margarita mixes, so bartenders can mix and match to create unique frozen beverage concoctions.

Daily’s Piña Colada Mix

Daily’s Cocktails offers both drink mixers and ready-to-drink beverages.

The pina colada mix is ready to blend or shake with a portion of rum. Enjoy your beverage by the pool, the beach, or in your backyard.

The ready-to-drink version of Daily’s Pina Colada is stored in a freezer-safe bag so that when you are ready for a frozen beverage, open the pouch and enjoy.

Other ready-to-drink frozen cocktails include a blue Hawaiian, margarita, and strawberry daiquiri.

You can make a Miami Vice by filling a glass with half strawberry daiquiri and half pina colada!

The creamy Coco López Piña Colada Mix is perfect for a refreshing piña colada with the bright citrus notes the cocktail is known for. For a ready-made, the Cutwater Spirits Bali Hai Piña Colada is great out of the can or keep it cold over some ice.

As Jimmy Buffett will proclaim, there are few drinks as transportive as a piña colada. The vacation-friendly drink mixes rum, coconut, pineapple, and lime juice in a recipe dating back more than a half-century, when it was created by Ramón “Monchito” Marrero at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

If you’re craving a piña colada but aren’t looking forward to the process of cubing pineapple and scooping out coconut meat, a premade mix can serve as an easy solution. Not all mixes are the same, though. There are piña colada mixes for making bartender-level craft cocktails and large-format mixes for adding to slushie machines. There are even piña colada smoothies and single-serve cans for a fun, portable take on the classic resort-favorite drink.

For mixes that are both brimming with tropical flavors and user-friendly enough for the most novice home mixologists, here are the best piña colada mixes—drink umbrella optional.

That’s why canned piña coladas that contain both spirits and mixers are an ideal move for al fresco parties. Monin is best known for making gourmet flavored syrups used in coffee shops and homes around the world. Along those lines, the brand’s blender-ready fruit smoothie mix is designed to help whip up cafe-grade fruit smoothies in a snap. It’s dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan, and kosher with no artificial sweeteners or flavors.

This option makes one of the creamiest pre-batched piña coladas available, blending equal parts pineapple and coconut juice. Try it in boozy drink or, alternatively, a mocktail or shake. We recommend blending this mix with fresh bananas to add a hint of fresh fruit flavor.

If you’re a fan of pineapple-forward piña colada, then the Torani mix will suit your preferences, as reviewers claim that it has more upfront pineapple flavor than coconut flavor. When blended with ice and your favorite rum, it results in a lively and bright piña colada perfect for a sweltering summer day.

Casamigos is a tequila brand, so it may seem odd to see them on a list of the best piña colada mixes. Nevertheless, the Casamigos team produces a cocktail mixer brimming with classic piña colada flavors, but presented in an elegant and versatile way.

This cocktail mixer includes cream of coconut, pineapple juice, lime juice, cane sugar, and cinnamon. The cinnamon gives it a spicy undertone that perfectly complements the fruit flavors and citrusy zing, and the cane sugar offers a gentle sweetness that ties the whole profile together. For a twist on a traditional piña colada, take Casamigos’ advice and blend Casa Colada with tequila instead of rum. But if you’d rather go with a standard rum piña colada, this mix can also deliver on that front.

This juice brand, a supermarket staple, is known for its pre-bottled smoothies and juices, and it has its own version of a non-alcoholic piña colada. This bottle combines pineapples, apples, bananas, creamy coconut milk, and juicy orange for a fruity, island-ready smoothie.

A big draw of this option is it’s designed to be delicious without alcohol, and naturally so. There are no saccharine flavors—just fresh fruit and creamy coconut milk. It’s a great option for those craving a piña colada, but want to skip the alcohol. Each drink has 310 calories and no added sugar.

For a mix made from real pineapple juice and coconut that will help create cocktails reminiscent of resort-ready beverages, we recommend the Coco López Piña Colada Mix. If you want an more upscale version of the piña colada, pick up a bottle of Casamigos Casa Colada Cocktail Mix.

What to Look for When Buying Piña Colada Mixes

Ingredients

Rum, coconut, and pineapple are the main ingredients that make up these refreshing tropical drinks. Some mixes have additives—preservatives or sweeteners—to help make them shelf stable, and these can change up the taste, so make sure to check the labels when looking at these mixes. The taste that is enjoyed so much when in the islands is from the real pineapple juice and coconuts, so keep that in mind if you want a piña colada that is closest to the real thing.

Flavor

Mixes are not all the same. There are a variety of flavors, as you will find when you’re looking for the right mix for you. Try some out and select the one that reminds you the most of those tropical breezes and ocean waves.

Size

If you are planning on having a drink or two yourself with one other person, single-serving cans or smaller bottles work well. For multiple people, grab a larger bottle to mix up a big batch in the blender. An open bottle of mixer will last in the fridge for a few months but will take up space that you might need for other items.

FAQs

How do you make a piña colada with a piña colada mix?

Making these refreshing drinks with a mix is a breeze. All you do is add your favorite rum, then add your own finishing touch, such as a slice of orange for a garnish, or some like to tweak it with a splash of fresh lime juice. These drinks are great if you make the mix with a light rum and and then add a shot of dark rum on the top.

How do you make frozen piña coladas with piña colada mixes?

Just grab a blender. To make a frozen piña colada: measure out the mix and rum, and add about 2 cups of ice, then blend. Stop at the consistency you prefer, whether it is chunky or smooth.

Can you drink piña colada mixes by themselves?

If you would like a nonalcoholic, aka virgin, piña colada, then yes, enjoy it as a mocktail—you can drink it straight from the bottle or can.

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large ice cream bucket.
  2. Place the tray in the freezer overnight, stirring after 4 hours.
  3. Remove from freezer and let stand for about 15 minutes to soften.

Run a quarter of lime around the rim of each glass and use ice cream scoop to fill each glass and cover with a little baking soda. Hard alcohol doesn’t freeze, so you’ll be left with a perfectly slimy drink! nine0003

Not a rum fan? You can easily replace tequila with a bucket of margaritas! We have also done this with amazing results.

Do you want to do it without alcohol?

For a fun touch (or for a virgin pina colada), skip the rum and scoop the frozen pina colada mixture halfway into the glass, adding soda or lemon-lime soda.

Since alcohol prevents it from freezing, the non-alcoholic version takes a little longer to freeze in smaller containers (e.g. pot 9×13). You may have to wait a little over 15 minutes before cleaning.

Coconut Cream vs. Coconut Cream

Coconut cream can be hard to find sometimes. Coconut Cream (what you do you want in this recipe) it is thicker than coconut milk and has more flavor but not too sweet. It can be found in most grocery stores.

Coconut cream is NOT like coconut cream, it is much sweeter. Coconut cream is too sweet for this recipe (you can often find it in smoothies at the grocery store)! nine0003

These foods are amazing with pina coladas

The best foods to accompany frozen pina coladas are always foods that are easy to eat. Like chips and salsa, mini takitos or corn dogs, chicken or meat skewers. If you want to be a little stylish, pair it with spicy cold shrimp ceviche and of course shrimp tacos.

    1. Step 1:

How to make a Pina Colada cake? Prepare the necessary ingredients for the dough and cakes. Eggs should be at room temperature, so take them out of the fridge ahead of time.

    2. Step 2:

Whisk the eggs with the sugar until fluffy, light and stable. Just do not beat the eggs, otherwise the biscuit will not rise and will not be lush. There should be many small bubbles on the surface. nine0003

    3. Step 3:

Sift flour with baking powder and vanilla and starch and mix.

    4. Step 4:

Gradually fold in the flour mixture into the beaten eggs, gently mixing from top to bottom with a spatula, being careful not to set the dough down. Pour in vegetable oil and mix thoroughly with a spatula.

    5. Step 5:

Wrap a 18-20 cm diameter cooking ring tightly with foil to prevent the dough from leaking from the bottom and place on a baking sheet. If there is a detachable form, it is better to use it. Pour the dough into the mold. nine0003

    6. Step 6:

Bake the sponge cake in a preheated oven at 170°C for about 40 minutes (or longer depending on your oven). Do not open the door for the first 25-30 minutes, otherwise the biscuit will settle.
Check readiness with a skewer – it should come out dry.

    7. Step 7:

Cool the finished biscuit to room temperature. Cut the cooled biscuit lengthwise into 3 cakes (or 4 if the height allows).

    8. Step 8:

While the cake is baking, prepare the cream.
Butter should be at room temperature, so take it out of the fridge beforehand.

    9. Step 9:

Into 250 ml of cold milk, add starch and flour.

    10. Step 10:

      Mix thoroughly to avoid lumps.

    11. Step 11:

Bring the remaining milk (250 ml) to a boil over medium heat, but do not boil.

    12. Step 12:

Pour in the milk-starch mixture in a thin stream while stirring. Cook the cream with constant stirring for 5-10 minutes until thickened. If possible, boil down the cream until it becomes very thick and the whisk mark no longer drags on.

    13. Step 13:

Cover the finished cream with foil or a contact bag and refrigerate.

    14. Step 14:

Beat soft butter with powdered sugar.

    15. Step 15:

Gradually fold the cooled milk cream into the butter mixture.
! Check if the cream has cooled down well. If it remains warm or hot at the bottom, it will melt the butter and the whole cream will be spoiled. Therefore, milk cream should be either colder than butter, or at the same temperature as it.

    16. Step 16:

      Sprinkle coconut into the cream.

    17. Step 17:

Stir the cream thoroughly. It should be dense, not fluid. Better before spreading the cream on the cakes, put it in the refrigerator for 1 hour. nine0003

    18. Step 18:

Pineapple juice and alcohol liquor for the soak. It is advisable to use coconut or pineapple liqueur, but if none of these are available, limoncello will do. If you use canned pineapples in syrup for the filling, then you can take this syrup for impregnation.

    19. Step 19:

Mix pineapple juice with liqueur (I use limoncello).

    20. Step 20:

You can use canned pineapples for the filling. I decided that it would be tastier with fresh fruit. And it really turned out tastier, the main thing is to choose a ripe fragrant pineapple.
Cut the pineapple pulp into small pieces.
Canned fruits should be slightly squeezed out of excess moisture, and then cut into pieces. nine0003

    21. Step 21:

Assemble the cake. Put the first cake on a plate and soak it with a mixture of juice and liquor.

    22. Step 22:

      Then brush generously with cream.

    23. Step 23:

      Sprinkle with pineapple chunks.

    24. Step 24:

Top with the next cake and repeat all layers.
Just grease the last cake with cream and sprinkle with fruit is not necessary.
Cover the top and sides of the cake with the rest of the cream and sprinkle with the remaining coconut flakes. nine0003

    25. Step 25:

Let the finished cake stand in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours and serve. Garnish with pineapple slices, rosette leaves and mint as desired.
      Enjoy your meal!

Please note that every oven is different. The temperature and cooking time may differ from those indicated in the recipe. To make any baked dish successful, use the useful information about the features of the ovens!

Be aware that you may need more or less flour than indicated in the recipe. Focus not on the amount of flour, but on the desired consistency of the dough. To avoid mistakes, read about flour and its properties! nine0003
