The biggest pizza in the world

One of the most popular dishes, which is simply adored not only by adults, but also by children, is pizza. Indeed, how not to love it, because there are thousands of combinations of toppings and ingredients that allow you to get a sweet, salty, or spicy dish. It’s no surprise that pizza fans set world records to glorify and capture in history as many references to the traditional Italian flatbread with various toppings as possible. Today we will tell you about one of the records in more detail!

The biggest pizza

Many countries have repeatedly entered the pages of the Guinness Book of Records for making the largest pizza. However, Italy, the country that is the historical homeland of this dish, has repeatedly tried to get the championship and break past records. And in 2012 they succeeded! So, the most gigantic pizza was made on the Apennine Peninsula in the city of Pesaro and was named after the first Roman emperor – Ottavia.

The record-breaking dish was prepared by one of the most famous chefs and five lesser-known assistants. It took 48 hours to prepare the pizza, its diameter was 43 meters, and the total area was as much as 1208 square meters. Just imagine, to prepare such a giant cake, it took over 8 tons of flour and 9 tons of mozzarella! Additionally, almost 4 tons of tomato puree, 680 kg of margarine and 190 kg of olive oil, 23 kg of balsamic vinegar were also used. The total whole pizza was more than 16 tons!

Many people are probably wondering how only 6 people were able to cook such a huge dish – after all, the one who cooked pizza at home knows how difficult it is to knead the right dough and stretch it into the thinnest cake with your hands. For convenience, the pizza was baked from 5234 separate pieces, which were then joined together.

After the registration chamber set a new record, the pizza was divided into pieces and everyone was fed – believe me, there were a lot of them, since everyone wanted to look (and, of course, take pictures) at such a large dish. However, even after the tasting, there was so much pizza left that it was delivered to numerous orphanages throughout Italy.

Previous records

Until 2012, South Africa was considered the birthplace of the largest pizza. In 1990, a supermarket owner in Norwood approached a local chef with the unusual task of making a large pizza that could feed hundreds of people. And such a pizza was not only made in a short time, but also got into the Guinness Book of Records, because its diameter was 37 and a half meters! For its preparation, 4.5 tons of flour were used, 90 kg of salt, about 2 tons of mozzarella cheese and 900 kg of tomato sauce.
