First time visiting Puerto Rico and it was amazing. So me and my wife visited Casa Blanca the last day before we fly back and it was really cool, around the area is a cat park, where they are many cats hanging around and living. And also there is a musuem which is free and have a lot of cool things to see and a lot of pictures to take

It was interesting to see this historic home where Ponce de Leon once lived. The best things were the ocean breeze through the open windows to cool down and the quiet, secluded garden with fountains and benches to sit quietly, listen to the birds and water and cool off. The restroom was clean and the docent was pleasant and knowledgeable.

The admission fee was $5 per adult, but the exterior ground is open to visitors without the admission fee. I didn’t have time to do the tour of the interior, but it was great just to be able to stroll the garden and enjoy the ocean view. It’s a quite place to relax and take a rest, and I recommend it if you want to get out of the more crowded touristy areas.

The building is restored in a way that tells the full story of its construction, expansion, renovation, and uses over the ~440 years it was occupied. In each part of the building, one or more sections of wall are exposed to reveal the original construction techniques of the corresponding time period.

Casa Blanca Museum

The Casa Blanca Museum is located in Old San Juan, the historic colonial quarter of the capital of Puerto Rico, a five-minute walk from the ancient city gates of Puerta de San Juan and Plazuela La Rogativa. The museum occupies an ancient building built in 1521 as the private residence of the family of Juan Ponce de León, a Spanish explorer, conquistador and the first governor of Puerto Rico appointed by the Spanish crown. Although Juan Ponce de Leon did not manage to live a day on his estate (he died from a poisoned arrow wound in 1521 during a conquest campaign in Florida), his descendants lived in Casa Blanca until the middle of the 18th century. Initially, the house was wooden, in 1523 a white-stone colonial-style building was erected in its place (the first house burned down during a fire), and a lush garden with fountains, terraces, stone paths and stairs was laid out on the territory surrounding it. From the sea side, the estate is surrounded by a powerful battlement, and from the verandas and balconies of the house there is a stunning view of the San Juan Bay. During its long history, the Casa Blanca estate was used as a refuge for the inhabitants of the city during the attack of the Taino Indians (before the construction of the fortress of La Fortaleza, the forts of El Morro and San Cristobal) and the residence of the governors of Puerto Rica, from 1779For a year, it housed the command of the Spanish army, and in 1898, the commander of the US Army settled in Casa Blanca. At this time, stables and a two-story building were built on the estate, which housed the barracks. Finally, in 1967, the dilapidated, dilapidated estate was handed over to the government of Puerto Rico and declared a historical monument. In 1974, after restoration work, as a result of which the Casa Blanca acquired its original appearance, the Casa Blanca Museum was opened in the historic building, which is managed by the Cultural Institute of Puerto Rico. In its rooms – foyer, dining room, oratory, throne room, two bedrooms and kitchen, the atmosphere of the house of the Ponce de Leon family is recreated. Museum visitors have the opportunity to see rare furniture of the 16th-17th centuries, paintings, interior items and original items of that era, take a walk through the beautiful garden and enjoy magnificent views of San Juan Bay.
