      History

The city was founded on June 24, 1478 after the victory of the Castilians under the command of Juan Rejon over the Guanches. Many historical sites of the capital are associated with Christopher Columbus, he stopped at Gran Canaria during his expeditions to America, he also stopped during his legendary voyage in 1492nd year when America was discovered.
