Everything You Need to Know About Parque Norte

TLDR? Parque Norte is Medellin’s amusement park with 22 attractions!

If you’re a hopeless adventurer and love extreme activities, expeditions, and amusement parks, you should visit Parque Norte in Medellín!

This place, located in an area you might have already guessed (yes, in the north), brings a day of great fun, adrenaline, and laughter! What can be better during a tourist trip or after a few days of work?

We could say that Parque Norte is a mini Disneyland in the City of Eternal Spring.

If you want to know how’s spending a day in the park, keep reading this guide!

What to Know About Parque Norte

Parque Norte is an amusement park that offers a cultural space for the city. It also preserves nature within its facilities and houses the largest urban lake in Latin America.

Park Hours

This place’s open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, except on Mondays or Tuesdays after a holiday.

The park starts operating an hour later on weekends but closes at 6 pm.

Rates and Types of Bracelets

The rates are affordable and different packages are offered according to the tastes and budgets of all people.

General admission to Parque Norte has an economical cost, and the passports or bracelets offered are:

  • Extreme Bracelet: Allows unlimited use of certain attractions throughout the day. It’s necessary to consider that some of these have age and height restrictions.
  • Fusion Bracelet: If you go with children, this pass is perfect! With this, the little ones accompanied by adults will be able to enjoy what the park has in store for families.

What to Expect From North Park?

The 22 mechanical attractions and other activities in Parque Norte are divided into four squares with different themes. Let me tell you a little about each!

Extreme Square

As the name suggests, Extreme Square’s the perfect space for the most daring, those who love adrenaline!

Three attractions require a minimum height to participate, the certification of minimum age, or the accompaniment of an adult: the Kamikaze, the Maui, and the Journey to the Center of the Earth.

These attractions aren’t suitable for those who are afraid of heights or if you hate having wet clothes.

Expedition Square

Expeditions are activities usually left for scientists, the military, and athletes. If you want this experience, this is the place for you!

Although some attractions are designed more for children and families, I took the opportunity to take a break and enjoy something a little calmer.

On the expedition sector, you’ll meet:

  • A Multi D simulator in which you can experience movement, speed, and wind. You’ll travel through many places from a single cabin.
  • A Prehistoric Jungle trip where you’ll find dinosaurs on the lake aboard a wooden boat.
  • A canopy trip for four people in which you can tour the park from above.
  • A train ride around the park.
  • Entrance to a simulator-type aircraft.

Fantasy Square

This area is reserved especially for children.

In these attractions, the little ones of the family or the group will travel in a mythical train, fly in space cars, make a route in a car on a track, and take some driving lessons in the mini-crash.

Kids will also be able to enter a Multi D simulator, ride zig-zag carts, ride the pendulum boat and go on a balloon adventure on the wheel.

Children smaller than 31 inches (80cm) must be with an adult.

Adventure Square

In this area, you can enjoy fairground games such as motorcycles, cars, and shooting at the enemy in video games. You can also go down awesome slides! It’s addictive!

How about a mirror maze? It’s my favorite! If you want to lose yourself in a labyrinth of crystals, this is the opportunity.

You’ll find other slightly rougher options. How about crashing (and avoiding crashing) on a car track?

How to Get To Parque Norte

Parque Norte has a strategic location between the Botanical Garden of Medellin, Parque Explora and the University of Antioquia.

For this reason, different public transport routes pass through the area. You can also order taxis and cars from any transport app to get there.

The best option is taking the metro. You can just get off at the Universidad station of Line A and walk a few steps.

If you rented a car or you’re with a motorcycle, the park provides a parking service for a fee.

Visit Parque Norte

Parque Norte’s a place for adventure and fun where you can live from the most extreme experiences to the most tender and entertaining moments with your little ones!

If mechanical attractions are your thing, I recommend enjoying an afternoon there. Have fun!

  • Authorized vehicles (owned by persons living or working in the area, active tourism businesses, etc.)
  • Public transport buses (guaguas) (route 369). To facilitate access, a new line is being put into operation at a reduced price.
  • What to see:

In the highest areas, blown by the trade winds (which form such a favorable microclimate), there are shrubs (laurel thickets) characteristic of the highlands. If you go towards Monte del Agua, then your path will lead through thickets of faya, the South American wild plant “palo blanco”, small-leaved holly and strawberry trees. The lush and dense vegetation of this area contrasts sharply with the vegetation of the southern slope of Tenerife, and you will have the feeling that you have entered another world, although in fact you have not gone even a hundred meters. The most common plants found in the area are Spanish gorse and balsam spurge. On the northern slope, the landscape changes again and tall palm trees and magical dracaena appear before your eyes. In Punta de Teno, you can see perfectly preserved Canarian and balsam spurges, which amaze with their numbers and size. Take a photo next to them to capture their size.

Teno is distinguished not only by its magnificent scenery, but also by its rich natural diversity. Here you can find such rare endangered species of animals and plants as laurel dove, Mexican gila-tooth, crow, Perez’s kermek, callia and spotted bird. Due to the fact that the osprey (a bird of prey rare on the island) lives here, this area has been declared a special protected bird area. Stop and watch this bird fly and hunt as it is a true gift of nature.

There are several settlements in the Rural de Teno. Among them are the villages of El Palmar, Teno Alto, Las Lagunetas, Las Portelas, Los Carrisales, Masca and Erjos, whose inhabitants are engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry mainly for their own consumption.

Near the villages, you can find ancient kilns for kilning clay and baking bread, as well as threshing grounds and cattle barns, typical of the livestock areas of Teno Alto.

Punta de Teno is the westernmost point of the island, nestled among high cliffs, numerous dams and gorges. Enjoy the contrast of steep gorges leading to small beaches and wide valleys stretching to Isla Baja and Teno Bajo. The area is rich in biodiversity and is home to some endangered and endemic species.

At the end of the page you will find two audio guides for exploring the area (one for walking from the beginning to the end of the route, the other for walking in the opposite direction) in several languages. They can be downloaded to mobile devices and receive detailed and interesting information regarding the route.

There is an old, well-preserved lighthouse in the park. From here you can enjoy a beautiful view of Los Gigantes, fantastic cliffs 600 meters high, stretching straight into the sea. You can also enjoy the enchanting sunsets while sitting by the sea. If you want to admire the scenery from the mountain heights, head to the village of Masca, one of the most unique places in Tenerife.

    Things to do:

Getting here will be a great experience, because you will enjoy breathtaking scenery all the way. Once in the park, you can go hiking, kayaking, SUP surfing, diving or mountain biking.

With over 100 kilometers of approved trails, you can enjoy nature to the fullest. The deepest gorges of the island are located in this territory, and the first inhabitants of Musk had to build houses between huge walls. This picturesque village is one of the best examples of traditional Canarian architecture. Just a few decades ago, it was almost completely isolated from the rest of the island due to the complexity of communications, which allowed it to maintain its uniqueness.

To learn more about the park’s outreach, conservation or outreach, visit the Los Pedregales Information Center where friendly staff can provide hiking maps and other important features of the park. It also hosts educational activities for schoolchildren by appointment and subject to availability.

Opening hours: Sundays from 09:30 to 13:30.

To fully experience the atmosphere of the Rural de Teno, meet the locals, take advantage of their hospitality and taste local products in the restaurants of the area.

At different times of the year, various colorful celebrations take place in Teno. They are associated with the harvest and are held in different villages in September and October. The village of El Palmar, for example, is known for its historical and cultural events. Among them is the Baile de las Libreas holiday, during which three pairs of dancers walk the streets and dance to the rhythms of taharaste under the supervision of the devil and the devil.

    What to bring:

Your equipment will depend on what you decide to do (visiting settlements, driving, hiking, etc.). If you decide to go for a walk, we recommend that you bring a mobile phone in case of unforeseen circumstances and emergencies, sunscreen and a hat, warm and waterproof clothing in case of a sudden change in the weather (which happens quite often in this area), water and food and sports shoes.

It is very important to plan the time so that the tour ends before dark (before 18:00 in winter and 20:30 in summer). Do not deviate from the route so as not to get lost.

If you decide to go to the beach, don’t forget to take a swimsuit or swimming trunks. If you’re going on a boat trip, bring some anti-seasickness medication (if you’re one).

Carry a small first aid kit with you at all times so that you can clean a wound, treat bruises and sprains, and alleviate symptoms if necessary. If you are taking any medication, be sure to take this into account when walking.

Check the weather forecast beforehand to make sure the weather is suitable for nature walks.

Tell family or friends about your plans so they know where to look for you in case of an emergency.

    Do not travel alone.
