Familia de Cabo Rojo pierde todo en su hogar: “Sentías que te quería virar el vagón”

Cabo Rojo. – David Vélez recogía esta mañana los paneles de zinc, ventanas y maderas de lo que hasta el domingo fue el techo de su casa, un vagón en el callejón Ángel Luis Carlos en el barrio Llanos Tuna de este pueblo.
Las ráfagas de viento del huracán Fiona, cuyo ojo entró a tierra, precisamente, por este pueblo del suroeste, lo privaron de un techo seguro a él y a su esposa.
“Esto se llevó todito eso (techo) y eso es un vagón y el viento lo quería virar patas arriba y se mojó todito”, lamentó el hombre retirado, de 64 años.
“Está todo entripado. Todo se perdió”.
Contó que el viento arrancó el techo, la puerta de la cocina y él hacía lo posible por cubrirse con un matress entre la cocina y la sala.
“Me movía para aguantar algo y estaba más nervioso, temblaba, de tanto (que era) el viento y sentías que te quería virar el vagón”, dijo angustiado. “Para María se llevó un par de planchas de zinc, el techo de acá al frente, pero no fue tanto, este (huracán) fue bien fuerte”.
El matrimonio fue invitado a moverse a lugares, seguros, pero por “no molestar a nadie”, prefirieron quedarse en lo que hoy es una casa de pérdida total.
Muebles, ropa, camas, piso, enseres, todo fue cubierto por las incesantes lluvias.
“Se perdió todo, todo, los muebles, está todo tirado allí. Estoy limpiando allí a ver si cuando venga la luz, las cosas funcionan”, detalló. “Yo duermo en el sofá y ella duerme en una cama en una orilla, que está mojada, pero hay una orillita que no”, agregó sobre las nuevas condiciones de vida que le dejó el fenómeno atmosférico que, según el alcalde Jorge Morales Wiscovitch, compara con los efectos que tuvo el huracán George en esta zona del País.
Vélez informó que hace cerca de un mes recibió una visita de personal de FEMA para la reclamación de ayuda económica por los daños del huracán María en el 2017.
“Que me iban a aprobar para el techo y vinieron hace un mes y dijeron, ‘te llamamos’”, comentó con desconfianza, pues ahora se agregan los daños por Fiona. “Vinieron, retrataron, (a) cada rato mandan a alguien, y le digo a la mujer mía, ‘seguimos bregando, que si no hay ayuda, seguimos nosotros como se pueda’, porque si no te dan na’”.
Vélez es padre de cuatro hijos y su esposa de otros dos. Todos, presuntamente, tienen conocimiento de las condiciones en las que se encuentran.
Este matrimonio se mantiene económicamente de lo que él recibe de Seguro Social –”que eso da para la luz, el agua y pagar el terreno”- y de lo que recibe ella limpiando casas por un par de horas al día.
“Voy a reconstruir con lo que voy a recoger (entre los mismos escombros). Sigo armando lo que pueda, como pueda”.
