By Plane from Sea-Tac Airport or Seattle 

Catch a connecting flight and enjoy a scenic ride to the Islands. Transfer to a commuter flight and enjoy the 30-60 minute tour over Puget Sound.

By Car from Sea-Tac Airport or Seattle

Rent a car and drive to the Anacortes ferry landing in 2.5 to 3 hours to catch a Washington State Ferry.  Ferry reservations should be made in advance.

Driving directions to the Anacortes ferry terminal from Seattle:

  • Take I-5 north
  • Take Exit 230 to Burlington/Anacortes (or Exits 221 or 226 through scenic Skagit Valley)
  • At the first light, turn left toward Anacortes onto Highway 20 west
  • Follow Highway 20 west to Anacortes for about 16 miles
  • Once you reach Anacortes merge right into the traffic circle and another right onto Commercial Ave.
  • Take a left at 12th St, where signs point you to the San Juan Islands ferry, and follow for about 2 miles to the terminal

Allow a comfortable 1-1/2 to 2 hours to enjoy the drive and the scenery from Seattle, or Vancouver B. C., to the Anacortes ferry terminal.

By Shuttle or Charter from Sea-Tac Airport or around the region

Island Airporter offers non-stop transportation between Seatac Airport and San Juan Island Monday through Friday (Closed Sat & Sun). Reservations are required. From SeaTac Airport, the shuttle leaves outside of Door 00 or door 2 at S. end of baggage claim.

Airporter Shuttle/Bellair Charters offers frequent round-trip service between SeaTac Airport, downtown Seattle, and the Anacortes ferry terminal, where you’ll walk on your ferry to any of the four major islands. From SeaTac, the shuttle leaves from Door 00 next to baggage carousel #1. You’ll need reservations. 

For group travel, you can also use one of the many charter bus companies listed below to make your way to Anacortes.

By Train from Sea-Tac Airport or Seattle

Enjoy riding the rails? From Sea-Tac Airport catch Sound Transit’s Link Light Rail to Seattle’s King Street Station. From Seattle, take a train or bus from Amtrak’s King Street Station to Mount Vernon’s Skagit Transit Station. Disembark, then catch Skagit Transit bus Route 40X to March’s Point, then transfer to Skagit Transit Route 410 to the Anacortes Washington State Ferry Terminal where you’ll board a ferry to Lopez, Orcas or San Juan Island/Friday Harbor.

By Bus from Sea-Tac Airport and Seattle

From Sea-Tac Airport take Sound Transit’s Link Light Rail towards the University of Washington and exit at Westlake Center stop in Seattle. Walk to 4th & Pike and take Metro Bus Route 512 to Everett. Transfer to the 90X, which will take you to Skagit Station in Mt. Vernon. In Mt. Vernon, transfer to the Skagit Transit Route 40X bus, which will take you to March’s Point, where you will transfer to the Skagit Transit Route 410 to the Anacortes Washington State Ferry Terminal. Travel time: 4 hours.

By Train and Bus Via Bellingham

If you take an Amtrak train to Bellingham, you can catch the Whatcom Transit Authority bus Route 80X from Bellingham Station to the Chuckanut Park and Ride, transfer to Skagit Transit bus Route 513 to March’s Point, then transfer to Skagit Transit Route 410 to the Anacortes Washington State Ferry terminal where you’ll board a ferry.
