We loved our 3 days at La Esperanza. Fantastic views and the host family is very nice. A great place to acclimate to the altitude.
Hot water shower (but bad shower head). However, the tend to lock the doors at night meaning no bathroom/shower until the morning. But perhaps you can ask for a key?
If you’re hiking to Laguna Grande, ask Flora to prepare lunch for when you get back. 20,000 and it was delicious. Attached is a photo.

As discribed by others. Nice big flat place to park to the left of the hacienda. Charged us 10k per day for two of us and our truck. Bathroom and shower as discribed.
Please be aware that you must secure all permits, insurance and guide BEFORE you come up here. Stop is Guican or El Cocuy and make all of your arrangements for hiking prior to making the hour drive to any of these sites. If you plan on doing more than one hike, make all arrangements in town before coming here. Nice family running the hacienda.

We paid 10,000 pp to park in the parking lot with use of the bathroom and shower. We were directed to park so that buses could turn around in the small lot since this is the end of the road. Sufficient if you want to do the hike.

Very rustic place. Maybe you can find a level place to park. Maybe not. The NP is opened again and there is lot of traffic from dropping people off and picking them up later. People are super nice but not really a place to spend a night. There is way better and free options on the route here. If you come here just do to the hike then parking is 5thousand COP. It’s possible to arrange English speaking guide with them. There is 2 Sergios in the NP area who speaks English.

Open. 10k per person to camp and no longer includes use of the bathrooms (there is a pit toilet up near the sheep pen he let us use). They also don’t serve food anymore. Not the nicest area to pitch a tent but the trailhead to Laguna Grande is in their backyard (Not allowed to go all the the way to the lake right now because the park is closed but they are permitting people to hike to the mirador above the waterfall where you have a view of El Pulpito del Diablo glacier).

Hardly a campsite if there is nowhere to camp? Unless I misunderstood the area where I was directed to for camping was not suitable at all for tents, Kanwara much better in this respect.

We liked it very much. We especially liked the good food and the hot shower (best suicide-shower ever). From here, you can walk to the laguna grande de la sierra in 8 hours incl. your way back. Guillermo, the son of the owner is a chef and if he is there’ try to profit from his art. Nice place!

The most expensive coffees
Did you know that caffeine is the most widely used psychoactive drug in the world? It is found in food, drinks and even tablets. The world revolves around this drug, which is so essential to the lives of millions of people that it is often overlooked as a cure. You may not even understand how your cup of coffee drives a billion dollar economy. Many of us consume caffeine every day in the morning. For this reason, coffee has long been a major economic product. After all, the economy of some countries is tied exclusively to coffee beans.
As a crop, coffee is grown worldwide in over 70 countries and consumed in hundreds. The entire coffee economy is a gigantic enterprise. Throughout history, coffee has had many uses, from religious ceremonies to brewing a cup before work or after dinner (which many consider to be their religious experience). Coffee acts as a stimulant and also aids in digestion. There are many varieties, from plant species to grain processing methods. Different production methods and growing regions give coffee different aromatic shades. I’m sure there are at least some coffee mysteries, myths and controversies that you didn’t even know about.
None of this is news to the coffee connoisseur, of course. As technology for processing and brewing a drink develops, the distance between a standard cup and a quality cup expands. Of course, there is also a price gap. Here are dozens of the most expensive cups of coffee available on the world market today.
Coffee is measured in pounds, which equals 0.45 kilograms. Below is a list of the most expensive coffees in the world. They can be ordered via the Internet and you will need to add the cost of delivery to the price.
10. Yauco Selecto AA (Puerto Rico) Coffee (Coffee Yauco Selecto AA) – $24/lb
Coffee has long been a commercial product in Puerto Rico, being the country’s main commodity both domestically and internationally. Rainfall in Puerto Rico is high, especially at higher elevations in the mountainous region, where coffee beans are mainly harvested. In addition, the nutrient-rich clay soil gives this coffee a special flavor. The limited production of Yauco Selecto AA coffee makes its price high. This coffee has a rich, buttery aroma with a mild chocolate flavor.
9. Starbucks Rwanda Blue Bourbon Coffee (Rwanda) – $24/lb.
Bourbon coffee is an Arabica coffee produced in Rwanda due to its favorable climate. Starbucks Rwanda Blue Bourbon coffee offers a mix of sour cherry and cinnamon butter cookie flavors. Of course, the aroma of this coffee is not the only reason why you should definitely try it. The well-known American company Starbucks helped Rwanda create a large number of coffee farms as part of its plans to rebuild the country, whose economy was shaken by the civil war. The coffee fair trade movement and the government’s economic reforms have increased the coffee’s share of the world market.
8. Mi Esperanza Coffee (Honduras) – $35/lb.
Honduras becomes the leader in coffee production in Central America. In an online auction in June this year, international buyers purchased 1,320 pounds of coffee from the Mi Esperanza farm for a record price of $35.10 per pound.
Honduran coffee is popular for its natural qualities, combining aromas of fruits, nuts, chocolate and spices. It is highly valued by gourmets because it is highly aromatic and does not leave a bitter aftertaste.
7. Los Planes Coffee (El Salvador) – $40/lb.
Los Planes coffee is grown in the Chalatenango highlands region of El Salvador. This trophy-rich coffee took 2nd place at the Cup of Excellence in 2006 and 6th in 2011. The aroma of caramel with mandarin is the most favorite.
6. Blue Mountain Coffee (Jamaica) – $49/lb.
Blue Mountain coffee has a worldwide reputation for excellence, and consumers around the world can’t seem to get enough of it, even at $49 a pound. Approximately 80 percent of this coffee produced in Jamaica is exported to Japan every year. Coffee itself is grown at an altitude of 1500 km above sea level in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica, where heavy rainfall affects its growth. Due to the abundance of water, the coffee beans pop out of the husk soon after they are harvested, giving Blue Mountain coffee a well-balanced, smooth flavor.
5 Fazenda Santa Ines (Brazil) $50/lb.
The beans of this coffee are fed by natural mineral springs and grow in fertile soil. This is a naturally processed coffee that makes it taste caramel-sweet right down to the last drop.
4. Molokai Coffee (Hawaii) – $51/lb.
Hawaii is said to be the only state in the US with the ideal climate and soil conditions for growing coffee. It’s no surprise that they have a plethora of world-famous coffees. One of them is Molokai coffee, produced on a 200-hectare plantation located in Kualapuu (Maui).
Molokai is an organic coffee that boasts a floral, berry and caramel flavor with hints of herbs. It is also full-bodied, slightly acidic, and has a long-lasting chocolate flavor.
3 . St. Helena Coffee (St. Helena, UK) (St. Helena Coffee) – $79/lb.
Of course, the island’s remote location and transportation costs affect the price of this coffee, but that’s not what people are paying for when they buy a pound for $79. The high quality and unsurpassed floral fragrance with a hint of citrus is truly one of a kind and definitely worth the money.
2. Kopi Luwak Coffee (Indonesia) – $160/lb.
What makes Kopi Luwak coffee from Indonesia so valuable is the selection and digestion process. Yes, you understood everything correctly, the process of digestion. KopiLuvak is often referred to as civet coffee, as coffee is digested inside the animal by enzymes. The civet eats the coffee cherry, then the coffee beans are harvested from the animal’s feces. During digestion, special enzymes are released that transform the taste of coffee beans, removing excessive bitterness. The taste of these beans is so in demand in our world that gourmets are willing to pay from 100 to 600 dollars per pound, depending on the global harvest. So Kopi Luwak is sometimes the most expensive coffee in the world.
1. Hacienda La Esmeralda (Panama) – $350.25/lb.
The trophy shelf at Hacienda La Esmeralda is full, because this coffee has been awarded first place at different world festivals and cups thirteen times since 2004. Do you want to know the latest record of this coffee? A shocking $350.25 a pound at the Best of Panama auction in 2013. Grown in the shade of guava trees on the slopes of Mount Baru in Panama, this coffee is in high demand and only grown in small quantities. Every coffee connoisseur should at least once in his life afford this luxury.
