Venezuelan authorities released data about the death of 67 people during the protests
more
The Venezuelan prosecutor’s office questioned the death toll in the protests, voiced by the Minister of Communications and Information Ernesto Villegas, and claims that sixty-seven people died. Earlier, Villegas said that the death toll had already reached eighty people. The prosecutor’s office requested from the Minister of Communications and Information Ernesto Villegas the data that his department operates on the number of people killed in manifestations since April this year, the department said in an official statement, citing the head of the judicial department, Saira Mundaraia.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the total number of dead so far does not exceed sixty-seven people, and a little more than one thousand three hundred injured. An investigation is also underway on almost four hundred cases of damage to state and private property. Mundaraj said that in the near future, six police officers who are suspected of robbing demonstrators will appear before the court. Mass protests have been going on in Venezuela since the beginning of April after the decision of the supreme court to seriously limit the power of the opposition National Assembly.
The decision was annulled, but opposition supporters took to the streets demanding the resignation of the court members and holding early elections, as well as against convening a constituent assembly. Earlier it was reported that almost two hundred people were injured on Wednesday during opposition protests in the Venezuelan capital Caracas. A total of one hundred and ninety-six victims, of which twenty-two were injured from tear gas bombs, one has a fracture, and another is in intensive care. Twelve were wounded by shotgun shells, and, as the whole country knows, there is one dead, ”the Venezuelan portal Tiempo quotes the statement of the head of the metropolitan municipality of El Atillo, David Smolyansky. According to him, a total of fifty-nine victims were taken to health centers in the Baruta and Chacao districts on Wednesday.
