Beautiful hotel and venue
We had our wedding at the Caribe Hilton on July 30th 2021. From planning our wedding in 6 short months to arriving with all our guests, the caribe did not disappoint. Katy was our coordinator and she was amazing from day one. She helped us with amazing rates and helped us choose the best of the best on the banquet menu. She was extremely responsive whenever we had any questions and assisted us in adding a few last minute guests. The food at the wedding was phenomenal everyone loved it, we chose the duo as our entree. The open bar was a hit and cocktail hour was great, from the mango Mojito’s to the tuna tartar crostini’s. Our guests enjoyed their stay at Caribe and we spent most of our time by the pool side bar where Hiram and Fernando mixed up some amazing drinks and shots! The day of the wedding was spectacular from the views of caribe Hilton to the reception. Thank you so much for allowing us to have our dream wedding at this beautiful resort.

Inauguration of the Caribbean Hilton Hotel

Shortly after Nicky’s return from Texas, Conrad Hilton hosted a lavish reception to celebrate the opening of the new Caribbean Hilton Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was the first Hilton Hotels International hotel outside the United States. Conrad Hilton’s growing importance as America’s leading hotelier was evidenced by an offer made to him by the State Department and the Department of Commerce to establish a chain of American hotels abroad to stimulate trade and tourism. Coincidentally, it was at this time that Puerto Rico Industrial proposed to the US hotel community that they open an American hotel in San Juan. The government was going to build a hotel at its own expense, and then transfer it to the management of some American businessman so that he would apply American experience and technology. After negotiating with the State Department and the Department of Commerce, Hilton applied for the competition. “Father responded to this proposal in Spanish,” his son Eric later recalled. “He was the only one who did it. Apparently, they [Industrial Company] liked it, and they chose him.” nine0003

Hilton advised the Puerto Ricans not only to build a hotel, but also to furnish it so that it would become a real national hotel, and not just one of the Hilton hotels. It took about a year to design and build, which cost more than $ 5 million, and on December 9, 1940, the luxurious Caribbean Hilton hotel with 300 rooms was opened. In February 1950, Hotel Montli magazine published 12-page photographs of the hotel and a floor plan. And it seemed that all Americans were immediately ignited with the desire to visit Puerto Rico. nine0003

With the hotel now operational, Conrad decided to host a reception at his estate for those who couldn’t make it to Puerto Rico for the grand opening. On the vast grounds of the estate, illuminated by powerful lamps, hundreds of employees of the Hilton Corporation in tuxedos and tailcoats socialized with guests, helping themselves to cocktails and Puerto Rican snacks served by waiters. A joyful atmosphere reigned at the reception, not only because the Puerto Rican project promised success – in fact, in three years it paid off the government’s investment of 9million dollars – but also because the “Caribbean-Hilton” was supposed to inspire developers around the world to use the Hilton experience and open their hotels in other countries.

When Conrad, who had been late for a business meeting in San Francisco, finally showed up for the party, Zsa Zsa Gabor quipped:

– Well, I see, he must have been looking around the hotel he liked. He doesn’t care that he keeps himself waiting, believe my bitter experience!

She never missed an opportunity to inject Conrad. But, since she was considered a “member of the family” and adored parties, he constantly included her in the guest list. nine0003

“Look around,” Nicky said to his ex-stepmother, coming up behind her and lightly hugging her thin waist. In the photo taken at that reception, Nicky looked stunningly handsome in a dazzling white shirt with a silk bow tie, a tuxedo and shining crocodile skin shoes. “Zha-Zha, we are on top of the world!” Why not just enjoy it?

Her face lit up with a joyful smile when she realized it was Nicky.

– Oh, Nicky, I was just joking! You know Zsa-Zha loves to joke. Let’s go dance cha-cha-cha. She turned around and pulled him onto the dance floor. – Let everyone here go crazy with envy of our beauty! nine0003

Dancer Ann Miller, actor Jimmy Stewart and actress Natalie Wood entered the stage together with Zsa-Zha. Elizabeth’s mother also danced, but, as everyone noted with interest, not with her husband, but with another partner. After a while, Conrad noticed that Zsa-Zha and Sarah were exchanging impressions. He sighed, shook his head, and turned to one of the servants:

“Do me a favor, Dave, get me a serving of Dewars Neat, and hurry up, okay?”

It was interesting to see how Konrad interacted with his employees. A brilliant memory allowed him to remember people’s names, even if he had only met them a couple of times. Hilton could ask an employee how the problem that he shared with him months or even years ago was solved. Everyone who worked for him responded to him with respect and love, knowing his fairness and balanced judgment. So it’s not surprising that when, at the end of the evening, Nicky Hilton gave the floor to his father, he was met with thunderous applause. Climbing up to the platform built for singers and musicians, the prominent businessman took the microphone and first of all thanked his guests for honoring his “modest house” with their presence on such a solemn occasion. nine0003

“The world is changing,” Conrad went on to say, “and we who live in this country and at this time are happy to be able to witness this change… When I was a boy, the train ride from Texas to New York took several days . And now? A couple of hours on the plane and you are there! Yes, friends, the world is getting smaller. The rapid development of aviation contributes to the flourishing of the hotel business. The more people travel, the more business benefits, not just our Hilton hotels, but the entire industry. We do not exist on our own, not in isolation, we are part of the global trading system, and if this system is profitable, I assure you, we will not be at a loss either. nine0003

He then told the guests about the new hotel in Puerto Rico and expressed his hope that it would contribute to the development of tourism there, would become “a safe haven for tourists coming there from all over the world.”

– Hilton Hotels International is fully controlled by Hilton Hotels Corporation, and may it prosper for the benefit of all of us and all of America! Take my word for it, this is just the beginning! he concluded his speech to the welcoming cries of the guests.

(Hilton International Hotels soon opened hotels in Madrid, Cairo, Rome, London and Istanbul.)

Konrad then called his sons Nicky and Barron on stage, who bowed low to the guests. Having gone downstairs, the three Hiltons stepped aside and, in close company, drank a glass of good French cognac in honor of the celebration. The guests saw how Konrad patted Nicky on the back and laughed heartily at some joke.

A little later, the orchestra played fast-paced Latin American melodies, and the guests came out to dance. Everyone stepped aside to make room for the reception host and his partner from the Metro Goldwyn Mayer film studio. nine0003

– My God, how lovely! exclaimed Sarah Taylor, watching in admiration as Conrad and Ann Miller danced passionately to the applause of the guests to the rhythm of the incendiary music. I have never seen such beauty in my life! Oh, these Hiltons know how to live, don’t they?
