Just 4 Fun Part 10

You are invited to steer the story as it develops. Where will it go and how will it end? You decide. If you enjoy it, please share it. Thank you for reading.

Part 10: “Feeling Lucky”

The camera flashed before anyone realized Ted had gotten his act together and had begun documenting the event.“If you don’t stop that!” cried Maggie frustration. “You and Steve’ll be matching bookends when I get done with you.

Gently touching his brow, Steve chuckled at the truth of her statement from his place at the sink then said, “You might want to listen to the lady Tom. I’ll attest to the fact that she’s a woman of her word.

Ted sat back down and without hesitation returned to his role as a bacon thief seemingly unphased by the threat. Turning back to her brother who still stood with his hand extended to her, she asked, “What’s with the rabbit’s foot, Wayne?”

“It’s symbolic and somewhat of an heirloom you could say. It was given to me by my predecessor for luck in times like these,” said her brother the mayor matter of factly. “It’s a symbol of good luck for the bearer and we could use some of that right now.”

“Not so lucky for the rabbit,” Steve remarked disparagingly while turning from his completed task at the sink to join the conversation. “Poor Fluffy might disagree with that.” he added before changing his tone more seriously, “Look Wayne, no disrespect, but I have done everything you’ve asked and I’ve even fed you and your fat friend over there. So, cut the crap. What gives?”

“Don’t you remember what we discussed last night?” asked Wayne as if wounded by the remark.

Before Steve could respond, Maggie interjected, “All I remember was a really good party with a lot of dancing and drinking. I don’t remember talking with you at all.”

“The question was not directed at you, Sis.” retorted Wayne before turning back to Steve.

Steve gauged the look on Maggie’s face before responding. He knew what she was thinking. He knew her all too well. She was wishing he had a third eye right about then to complete a triad on his face. “I remember,” responded Steve, “but you got here before I could discuss anything with her. Seriously Wayne, I didn’t even get her back here till almost three and barely had time to get any coffee into her when you showed up. What were you thinking?”

“I was thinking I’m supposed to be on my honeymoon and we need to take care of this before I go,” said Wayne before turning his attention to Ted. “You still have that thing ready?” he asked with growing impatience. “Come on already, let’s do this.” Ted stood, wiping the grease from his lips with a napkin before reaching for his camera while the old preacher began performing a blessing over the gathering.

In utter disbelief, Maggie threw up her hands, “I’m standing right here!” she exclaimed in a fiery tone, “Do you all think I’m just going to go along with this? Isn’t there supposed to be some sort of official process of something?” Don’t you need my consent? I mean, don’t I even get a vote? What exactly happened last night Steve? Is this why everyone kept congratulating me and handing me drinks?

The men all stood staring in confusion for a moment, before Wayne asked slowly, “What exactly do you think is going on here?

“Well the way you’re all acting,” she began, “and then you…you said it was unanimous, and then the passing of the heirloom, and what was I supposed to think?”

Wayne held his laugh as best he could but let a wide grin spread across his ample face. “Did you think we came here to make you the new mayor or something?” he asked.

“Well, I thought it was obvious!” said Maggie sounding deflated.

Silence enveloped the room for a moment as no one had the nerve to react. Magie stood dumbfounded and embarrassed before her guests looking from one to another trying to figure out what she had gotten herself involved in. Without breaking the silence, Wayne reached out and gingerly took Maggie’s hand into his. He looked her in the eye then gently placed the lucky rabbit’s foot into her hand, “Maggie, in times like these we need all the good people we can get. We need someone to stand up before the masses and offer them help, guidance and comfort. We don’t need more politicians, we need leaders. What you did last night for the people of this town was exemplary and will be remembered for generations.” Glancing to make certain Ted stood ready to capture the moment, he changed his tone to that more fitting an official declaration and continued, “Therefore, by the power vested in me as the mayor of Ivanhoe, and under the Ivanhoe emergency powers act of 1846, I deputize you to carry out all duties assigned as Ivanhoe’s first ever official community service officer. Do you solemnly swear that you will perform with fidelity the duties of the office to which you have been assigned, and to which you are about to assume? Do you solemnly swear to support the declarations of this town and the city counsel and faithfully serve the needs of our fine community? The camera clicked several times, capturing the moment between the question and Maggie’s response. She stood before her brother with her hand in his while they briefly shared the rabbit’s foot between them. She experienced a moment where she could see the room from outside. She watched as it unfolded in her mind as if viewing the adhoc ceremony as a spectator rather than a participant. “Maggie?” asked her brother after a pause, “This is where you say yes.”

“I…” she began, but couldn’t finish.

The preacher stepped forward and gently took her free hand. Maggie looked him in the eye wordlessly. The old man returned her gaze with the confidence and compassion of his years then simply nodded. Maggie nodded in return, mimicking his action. “You know we need you and you know it’s the right thing to do. Please, for the sake of the good people of… No.” he said interrupting himself, “Strike that. Please, Maggie, for our families and our friends, and for me, won’t you help?” Maggie did not hesitate and nodded her reply. Wayne released her hand leaving the lucky rabbit’s foot in hers. As his hand pulled away she felt a tug on the chain attached to the heirloom which she hadn’t noticed. Hanging from the foot she saw a badge that looked as old as the preacher who still held her other hand. The badge was made of brass and was formed in the shape of a shield which bore an eagle set atop it. Bringing it up to her face for closer inspection she read the embedded letters printed across the badge’s newly polished surface, “Special Officer,” she read aloud.

The preacher said, “I got that as a kid. Stole it you might say, before I became a man of God, from one of them prohibition officers. I hope you give it a new meaning.”

Smiling and still uncertain, Maggie asked, “What’s a community service officer?”

Steve replied, “It’s like the sheriff, but not the sheriff. You don’t get a gun but you get the badge and some authority. They even put magnetic shields that look like the badge on your pick up already.” he added pointing out the kitchen window behind him. “Think of it this way, you’re basically handling the community PR while Wayne here goes and hides away with his new bride for a couple of days.” Wayne gave a sidelong glance to Steve but otherwise said nothing in response to the jibe.

“So, if I understand this correctly, said Maggie while pulling her hand from the preacher’s grasp, “I am going to be the one cleaning up my brother’s mess again. I guess it never ends. So how much?”

“How much what?” asked the mayor confused by the twist.

“How much is me taking this worth to you? I gotta eat so don’t think you for a moment I’ll do it for free, and before you give me that well practiced hurt look you use for the camera, the answer is yes I do think you’d try it.

Ted, wiped his greasy fingers on a clean napkin before passing the contract from its place on the table. Opening it, she found that for once, her brother had been generous with her. Looking up over its top edge, she was greeted with smiles of knowing from Steve and the preacher while Wayne glared back and forth between them. Seeing that, she smiled and asked for a pen.

Cheerful monkey, fragrance | SOAP FORMULA

To add fragrance to soaps and cosmetics, perfumes or food flavors are used. Creating our own unique aroma of the final product or using a certain smell, each of us becomes the creator of positive emotions, fleeting impressions, almost forgotten, but no less pleasant memories and associations. And it plays an important role in our life.

Description: this fragrance is just a pleasure! It starts with notes of fresh banana and juicy grapefruit, middle notes of kiwi, juicy bubblegum and strawberry, and a hint of vanilla as a base.

Perfume is a complex mixture of organic substances, each of which has an individual smell, which together provide the fragrance with an individual aroma. In addition to aromatic substances, the perfume also contains a solvent added to ensure its good distribution in the final product (propylene glycol), and a fixative added to reduce the volatility of the perfume components and preserve the smell for a longer time (AromaFix).

Solubility: fat soluble.

Vanilla content: 0.3%.

Recommended percentage of input:

Plant wax and paraffin are used up to 10%

Aromatockeys of Sasha and incense up to 50%

lotions and perfumes up to 4%

Bath oils, soaps, gels up to 4%

Cleansing products up to 4%

Suitable for use in soap from scratch.

The intensity of the smell of soap is determined by the concentration of fragrance or perfume in it.

Extremely high concentration will give the soap a very intense smell, but may cause an unexpected change in color, reduce the transparency of the soap, promote the release of oil on the surface of the soap during temperature changes, sometimes lead to damage to the packaging. A standard concentration of flavors or fragrances (1%) or less will usually provide an acceptable but not intense odor level and help avoid the negative effects listed above.

It’s not a secret that fragrances and fragrances have different odor intensity, so, focusing on your own feelings, you can check the maximum allowable concentration of each of them by conducting a simple test:

1. It’s best to experiment with a clear base so you know the effect of a certain concentration on the haze of the finished product.

2. Take enough base to make 6 small molds, divide into 3 equal portions. Melt the first part of the base in a water bath without adding anything to it (these will be control samples). Fill two molds.

3. Take the second part of the base, melt it, add the fragrance or fragrance at the maximum concentration (2.5%), pour two moulds.

4. Take the third part of the base, melt it, add 1% fragrance, fill two molds.

5. When pouring all samples, try to avoid the presence of air bubbles in them. Leave the soap in the mold overnight, take it out in the morning, wrap it tightly in cling film, label it with the strength of the fragrance. Place each of the different concentration samples and the control sample in the refrigerator, leaving their vapors at room temperature.

6. Compare test samples with controls daily. After 7 days the test is over. If refrigerated samples containing 2% fragrance are as clear as samples stored at room temperature, then a fragrance content of 2.5% is acceptable. Similarly, you need to check the remaining samples and determine the maximum allowable percentage of fragrance content. When comparing, you should also pay attention to the color of the samples and the intensity of the odor. At the same time, the influence of the content of fragrances in different concentrations on the packaging film should be checked.

Why is sad music sad, but cheerful, on the contrary, fun / Sudo Null IT News But what determines the mood caused by listening to music? We’ll figure out.

An example of different moods in the same melody

The principle “it is better to see once than to hear a hundred times” is not suitable in our case. An article about sound, but with pictures instead of sound, this is nonsense. Although many musical articles on the Internet sin with just such an approach.

We will use an online sequencer to listen. In it, you can change the scale of the piano roll with the mouse wheel, you can select a track in the list on the left, you can drag the workspace with the mouse. The most important button is Play in the top left corner.

Here is the famous Jingle Bells. This is a major melody, it sounds like this:

The same melody, but in a minor key:

Even a child can immediately say that the melody is the same, but the first version is cheerful, and the second is sad.

What does this say? This suggests that the emotional perception of music is objective. It does not depend on the listener.

How humans perceive sounds

The brain of animals works like a difference machine.

It doesn’t matter to a monkey what percentage of green is in the color of a banana. But to find out on which of the two trees the bananas are greener, in order to choose which one to climb – this is already a matter of survival.

This applies to all senses, including hearing. A person, like any animal, can easily hear the difference between two sounds.

Usually the musical relationship between sounds of different pitches is explained like this:

very interesting, but nothing is clear.

A more mundane explanation – a person perfectly hears the components of the sound harmonics.

… an oscillating (sounding) body vibrates not only along its entire length, but also in all parts, which generates additional harmonics that add up to the main wave
… generated overtones are quieter [source not specified 190 days], so how, in addition to the frequency of vibrations, there is also the concept of their scope, amplitude – loudness

https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonica_(music)

Consider the effect of harmonics on the example of a conventional guitar. It is convenient because the string can be measured with a regular ruler and check the calculations on a calculator.

As you can see from the picture, the largest (and loudest) pieces of the string correspond to certain frets on the fretboard.

For example, 2/3 of the string would fit the 7th nut. And two sounds, one of which has a frequency of 2/3 lower than the second, will be perceived by the human ear “together”.

The more large pieces of a vibrating body (strings) coincide in two sounds, the more “similar”, “coinciding”, “consonant” they look to a person.

Apparently, this connection was fixed in the course of evolution. it is vital for animals to determine by ear whether this is a sound source or several different ones.

Physics of Music Theory

If the guitar neck is evenly divided by nut so that 2/3, 3/4, etc. can be taken from each nut, we get 12 nut per octave (i.e. half of the string):

  1. I – tonic – 1/1

  2. II – minor second – 24/25

  3. II – Majoric second – 8/9

  4. III – 5/6 9000 9000

    III – major third – 4/5

  5. IV – Quarter – 3/4

  6. Triton – 32/45

  7. V – Quinta – 2/3

  8. VI – Minor Sessta – 5/8

  9. VI – MAZHORNA SECTO – 3 /5

  10. VII – Minor Septa – 5/9

  11. VII – major septa – 8/15

  12. The following octave – 1/2

Why in half of the guitar string of thresholds on vulture 12 , but there are only 7 notes in music?

Large parts in 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4 are loud, perceived very closely with the main frequency of the main, low sound.

Look at the intervals 4/5 and 5/6 (i.e. the third). They are large enough, which means they are loud and well distinguishable by ear. But their frequencies are close to each other.
This means that they act on a person in a similar way. But the one that is lower in frequency, minor (“smaller”), makes the music “sad”, and major (“large”), high – cheerful.

Why?

A larger body produces lower sounds (eg an elephant or a waterfall). And a smaller body makes higher sounds (a mouse or a murmur of a stream).

Even a frog understands that everything big is bad, it is potentially dangerous. Anything small is good, you can eat it. The brain correlates the major and minor thirds in a melody with positive and negative emotions according to the same principle, this is laid down at the level of reflexes.

The same applies to intervals per second, sixth and sept. But their harmonics are much quieter than the main ones and may simply not be regarded as full-fledged in the melody.
