Silent Night Lyrics in Spanish

Noche de Paz

Noche de paz, noche de amor

Todo duerme alrededor

Entre los astros que esparcen su luz

Bella anunciando al niñito Jesús

Brilla la estrella de paz

Brilla la estrella de amor

Noche de paz, noche de luz

Ha nacido Jesús

Pastorcillos que oíd anunciar

No temáis cuando entréis a adorar

Que ha nacido el amor

Que ha nacido el amor

Desde el pesebre del niño Jesús

La Tierra entera se llena de luz

Porque ha nacido Jesús

Entre canciones de amor

Silent Night Spanish Version Video

Here’s a video for children that uses the lyrics above:

This is another beautiful version, with slightly different lyrics:

Noche de Paz

Noche de paz, noche de amor

Todo duerme en derredor

Entre los astros que esparcen su luz

Bella anunciando al niño Jesús

Brilla la estrella de paz

Brilla la estrella de paz

Noche de paz noche de amor

Oye humilde el fiel pastor

Coros celestes que anuncian salud

Gracias y glorias en gran plenitud

Por nuestro buen Redentor

Por nuestro buen Redentor

Noche de paz noche de amor

Ved que bello resplandor

Luce en el rostro del niño Jesús

En el pesebre del mundo la luz

Astro de eterno fulgor

Astro de eterno fulgor

Silent Night History

The carol Silent Night was written in in German, in 1816. It was penned by young priest Joseph Mohr in Austria, after parish had suffered twelve debilitating years of war due to the Napoleonic wars.

In 18181, Mohr’s friend Franz Xaver Gruber wrote music to accompany the verses. The two sang  Silent Night for the first time on Christmas Eve.

Since then, it has been translated into more than 300 languages, including Spanish. It was designated a “treasured item of Intangible Cultural Heritage” by UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

“This is a song of freedom for the world, whose beautiful melody and text have inspired versions in more than 300 languages,” Michael Neureiter, president of Austria’s Silent Night Society, told Catholic News Service.

“Although it comes from the Catholic tradition, its calm, harmonic sound has made it accessible internationally. As such, it’s not just a Christian song, but also a human song.”

Spanish Lyrics Translation

You’ll notice that Spanish translation is different from the English version. Here’s my translation from Spanish to English, to give a sense of this:

Noche de paz, noche de amor
(Night of peace, night of love)

Todo duerme alrededor
(Everything around sleeps)

Entre sus astros que esparcen su luz
(Between the stars that shine their lights)

Bella anunciando al niñito Jesús
(Beautifully announcing the baby Jesus)

Brilla la estrella de paz
(Shine, star of peace)

Brilla la estrella de amor
(Shine, star of peace)

Noche de paz, noche de luz
(Night of peace, night of light)

Ha nacido Jesús
(Jesus has been born)

Pastorcillos que oíd anunciar
(Shepherds hear the announcing)

No temáis cuando entréis a adorar
(Don’t be afraid when you enter to worship)

Que ha nacido el amor
(Love has been born)

Que ha nacido el amor
(Love has been born)

Desde el pesebre del niño Jesús
(The baby Jesus, from the manger)

La Tierra entera se llena de luz
(The whole Earth fills with light)

Porque ha nacido Jesús
(Because Jesus has been born)

Entre canciones de amor
(Between songs of love)

There are multiple English translation, but here are the most common English Lyrics we use, for comparison:

Silent night, holy night!

All is calm, all is bright.

Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child.

Holy infant so tender and mild,

Sleep in heavenly peace,

Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night!

Shepherds quake at the sight.

Glories stream from heaven afar

Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,

Christ the Savior is born!

Christ the Savior is born

Silent night, holy night!

Son of God love’s pure light.

Radiant beams from Thy holy face

With dawn of redeeming grace,

Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

    Noche de paz

    Silent night

Noche de paz, noche de amor
    Todo duerme en derredor
Entre los astros que esparcen su luz
    Brilla anunciando al niñito Jesús
    Brilla la estrella de paz.

Noche de paz noche de amor
    Jesús nace en un portal
Llene la tierra la paz del Señor
Llene las almas la gracia de Dios
    Porque nació el redentor.

Noche de paz noche de amor
    Todo canta en derredor
Clara se escucha la voz celestial
Llamando al hombre al pobre portal
    Dios nos ofrece su amor.

    Silent night, night of love.
    Everything around is sleeping.
Among the stars that spread light,
Foreshadowing the birth of the baby Jesus,
    The star of peace shines.

    Silent night, night of love.
Jesus was born in a barn
May the Lord’s peace fill the earth.
May the grace of God fill the souls.
    Because a redeemer was born.

    Silent night, night of love.
    Everyone is singing around.
A voice from heaven is distinctly heard,
    Calling out to poor people,
    God grants us his love.
