Description:

Uyuni salt flat.

The Uyuni Salt Flats is the largest salt desert in the world, its area reaches 12,000 square kilometers, it is located at an altitude of 3,650 meters above sea level, in the southeastern part of Bolivia, in the province of Daniel Campos, in the department of Potosi, and is part of the Altiplano region in the Andes mountain range.

Nothing can capture the beauty and loneliness of a wild and inhospitable land like the Uyuni Salt Flats. Its landscape, with mountains and volcanoes at an altitude of 5000 meters above sea level, is amazing. The salt layer on its surface can reach from 10 cm to 8 meters thick. It is also estimated that the salt marsh contains 10 trillion tons of minerals. It also has one of the world’s largest deposits of lithium.

Program:

The day before the tour, at 19:30 pm, you will be picked up from your hotel in the center of La Paz. At 20:00 pm – departure of the bus La Paz – Uyuni. (Another bus leaves at 22.00). Bus time is determined by performers in Bolivia and it may differ from that described on the site.

Overnight trip.

Arrival at the place – at 5:00 am. Upon arrival, your guide will give you information regarding the excursion and where you can have breakfast (breakfast is not included in the tour).

Your tour starts at 10:30 am. First, you will be briefed at the Uyuni tourist office, then you will get on an off-road vehicle (Land Cruiser – 4×4 or similar) and set off on a journey to the largest salt desert.

You will visit the cemetery of steam locomotives, which houses a collection of old trains, to which Bolivia owes its industrial development. You will also visit the settlement of Kolchani, located near the salt marsh.

Then you will arrive at the island of Incahuasi, where a delicious lunch awaits you. This island is better known as Fish Island, which is located in the middle of a salt desert where cacti grow that reach over 10 m in height, some of them about 100 years old. From here you will enjoy an unforgettable walk through the salt marsh.

Then in the afternoon you will continue your journey through the salt marsh and arrive at the remote area of Atulcha, which is also a kind of large island where there is a small but famous hotel built from salt blocks, and where the furniture is also made of salt.

You will return to Uyuni at 18:30. Then you will have some free time. At 19:30 you will need to be at the bus stop where you will take the Uyuni-La Paz bus.

Overnight trip.

You will return to La Paz at 5:00 am.

Optionally, for $45 we can arrange a transfer to Puno by bus.

19:30 pm Pick up at Uyuni bus stop
20:00 (or 22:00) pm Bus departure Uyuni-La Paz
5:00 am (or 07:00) Arrive in La Paz
