Great bands on the boardwalk in the summer! I worked here 51yrs ago & lived in New London County for a long time. The beach is clean & the boardwalk is fine BUT it looks the SAME as it did or worse than 40 yrs ago! So many ANCIENT, BROKEN DOWN rides & games!! Honestly it looks like nothing has been done to upgrade it AND the CLOCK TOWER is gone!!! 3 stars ‘cuz the sand & water are nice! Someone needs to keep an eye on people who are “ruining” the beach atmosphere! Spend some $$$ on adding new shops, a NEW arcade, more places to eat, new SAFE rides…. Done with the Covid excuse! SHAME ON NEW LONDON for allowing this GEM to deteriorate!!! Where is your pride?!!!

Great Day at a Family Friendly Beach

Aug 2022 • Family

Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I’ve been coming to Ocean Beach since I was a child. It’s been a few years and some of the negative reviews almost scared me away. I’m glad I came. Just like I remember. Nice family friendly beach. Really enjoy the river at the far end. Will definitely come back!

Amazing beach

Jul 2022 • Solo

I am sorry to read some of the rating people post due to the price to park. Take the 20 dollar parking out of the equation. It costs this much to park at multiple beaches..some have park price and beach entry price…some are 40 50 dollars…really complaining about 20 dollars to park a carload of people nowadays is like really? There is a massive beach with upkeep and Olympic size pool and rides, pavillions, restrooms, changing rooms, arcade, don’t know if there is still water slides, bar/restaurant with balcony overlook, icecream shop, mini golf in great condition., authentic from 40 years plus? Kept up perfect….this place is amazing, always has been and always will be. Do us all a favor if you are that negative do stay away..thank you and please don’t stop people from judging for themselves. Live entertainment, magic shows, come see for yourself.

Family Vacation

Jul 2022 • Family

What can I say that hasn’t been said. We stayed at a house within walking distance – paid way to much just to be close. We attempted to go Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It was entirely too crowded. Finally went on Monday. Wasn’t crowded at all. I will say the beach was nice. Everything else needs a face-lift. I really don’t know how you can call it a boardwalk as it’s so short and really no shops. But what got me was that you had to pay to get in. Weekends $30/car to drive in, $8/person to walk in. $25 weekdays. I had read that if you drive in and leave there is no free re-admission allowed, but if you walk-in you can come and go all day (reason for house so close). Well the young men at the admission gate said that was wrong and there was no re-admission. A gentlemen who lived nearby overheard the conversation and said that’s wrong you could always come and go? Even if you only want to mini-golf you have to pay $8 person to enter and then $8 person to mini-golf, go in the restaurant, get ice cream or do anything. No more vacations here!

Surprisingly Nice!

Jul 2021

So we decided to break up our normal Beach routine and instead of heading to our regular beach in Rhode Island we decided to take a little road trip to Ocean Beach Park in Connecticut. We didn’t really have much of an expectation just wanted to break up the routine. We went on a Monday and to our pleasant surprise when we arrived the lady at the gate was very polite and nice and the parking was plentiful we were able to park only five spaces from the boardwalk. The beach was clean and not overly crowded we were able to find a nice spot and just relax and enjoy the calm waters. We found some amazing shells and even managed to fall asleep on the beach for a short time. I must say this beach was very clean and relaxing and we really enjoyed the day trip. I would recommend this beach to anyone looking for a relaxing mid week break.

May 2021

Nice beach, kind of trashy venues on the so-called boardwalk. If you’re a Jersey Shore person, this boardwalk will make you laugh. It’s tiny and there isn’t much. Good parking, nice for a one-time visit, but no need to go back. Scary ride through New London to get there, but as you get closer to the water, the neighborhood improves significantly.

One of the best beaches in CT

May 2020

I consider this one of the best beaches in Connecticut. Soft sand, ample space, good vibes, a beautiful boardwalk, and it is full of diversity. There are also many off beach amenities such as a pool, good carnival-style eateries with greasy beach food, great changin rooms and bathrooms that are generally very clean. The areas of the beach have different cultures – some quiet, some with a party vibe, the volley ball courts can be a hit. There’s a nice big boardwalk. That said, the location in the sound means, for good or for bad, it doesn’t get very wavy or windy. In the dog days of summer (August) there can be jellyfish or bees, but for the most part it is a perfect temperate location.

Interesting beach in the garden

July 2017 • Family vacation

I was very impressed, it was not something I remembered, I went through when I was a child. It was much better than the sand sidewalk pool (didn’t use the pool and other attractions) my family and I enjoyed the beach instead. I recommend if you are traveling, go during the week, there are less people than weekends. Had a great time.

Beach day

July 2017 • Family vacation

As a family we visited this beach for the first time on a weekend, it was packed with people. We still found a place to organize our towels and umbrellas. We didn’t have to wait long for food or drinks. The lines for the bathrooms were long. But as there were probably several thousand people on the beach, this was understandable. We citied again on a weekday, it was almost empty when we arrived. Much more peaceful and relaxing. Lifeguards were on duty both days. nine0003

Nice but incredibly crowded

July 2017 • Family vacation

Visited Ocean Beach with my family on the 4th of July as we were staying in the area from out of state and wanted to try Connecticut beach. Ocean Beach is very beautiful with lots of amenities but obviously incredibly crowded on holiday. We got to a distance of about three miles at 10:30 and spent the next hour and a half just running along the forward to the beach. We finally got us to park on the street and walked for a mile. I loved a good few hours on the beach. Everything was crowded – the water, the beach, the lady’s (!!!!) room line, the food line. but everyone was in a good mood and enjoy themselves. If I were to come again, I would definitely head here earlier in the morning and get around mid-day. Otherwise, nice! nine0003

Nearly a hundred years of relaxation and sand!

June 2017 • Family vacation

Longing for the past to visit childhood always draws us to this beautiful beach! Wide beach with lots of space for everyone. Diligent lifeguards but security a bit weak. A hotel with beautiful sea birds – a bonus! The kid can take. Great beach for walking on sand and pavement. Friendly diner staff – tasty clam fritters, long dogs and burgers but hot bland. Great view of the boats and ride to Long Island volume. Admission fee but worth it. nine0003

Fun for all ages

June 2017 • Family fun

It was a great way to spend a summer day. We arrived on a Friday and it wasn’t too crowded. Attractions add up, but you can pick and choose, $10 half day water slides, $8 ticket by the pool, $2-$3 carnival rides, arcade, beach, food and ice cream. Parking is $17 per car for a week. The hotel was mostly clean (bathrooms need more attention) and there were plenty of lifeguards and security. Beach chairs, towels, refreshments from the reception where you can eat. No animals are allowed. nine0003

Hello, Thanks for your thoughts and review. We appreciate it. We feel we are comparable to other parks but offer more value and a different experience with our boardwalk, regularly sifted sand, attended restrooms, lifeguards etc but also understand everything is expensive now. If you have four in your car the average admission is around $5.00 per person for an all day experience so bring friends and family! nine0003
