Only half the slides were operating and most of the outdoor area was closed, however this was not communicated on the website or prior to entry. Very disappointing and misleading.

There are activities for the young and old. A good place to bond with family. More cost effective to go with tour groups then paying out from your pocket in a free and easy trip.

Caribbean Bay Water Park

Caribbean Bay Water Park – the largest water amusement park in Asia and one of the largest in the world, located in South Korea, in the city of Yongin, an hour’s drive from Seoul. Caribbean Bay was opened in 1996 and is part of the Everland amusement park. The water amusement park recreates the atmosphere of the Caribbean islands; its territory is decorated with a pirate theme. The water park can simultaneously accommodate 20,000 visitors, which have five thematic zones – the Water Center, the Sea Wave, the Presentation Bay, the Fortress and the Wild River. Caribbean Bay features indoor pools, hot tubs, outdoor pools, waterslides, and many attractions. One of the main attractions of the park is a pool with huge artificial waves, the height of which reaches almost 2.5 meters. They are not allowed into the pool without a life jacket, without a life jacket you can only be in shallow water, up to the yellow line drawn on the bottom of the pool. In 2011, in honor of the 15th anniversary of the opening of the water park, a new attraction was put into operation, which immediately fell in love with fans of extreme sports – Aqua Loop water slides 18 meters high. Courageous visitors rise to the very top and enter a booth in which the floor is removed from under their feet on the count of 3-2-1. Nearly vertical flight down the chute, full 360-degree turn, out of the chute into the pool, all at speed 90 kilometers per hour. The squeals and screams of the participants of this very “adrenaline” attraction can be heard from afar, the slide is located in the Wild River themed area. The Fortress zone is visited by windsurfers. Presentation Bay offers thrill-seekers several extreme rides, including the Mega Storm waterslide, which opened in 2015, the water bobsleigh and the Tube Ride. The pools and attractions of the water park are designed for every taste and age, there are huge and small slides, with open and closed gutters, pools with artificial waves and a waterfall, as well as a children’s area with shallow pools, mini slides, water swings and fountains. The Aquatic Center is the indoor area of the Caribbean Bay water park. There are several swimming pools, water slides, as well as beauty salons, a sauna and hot tubs with healing water. On the territory of the water park there are restaurants and shops where you can buy swimming equipment. nine0003

skiing, street food and festivals

South Korea is one of the best destinations for outdoor activities in winter! We tell you what to do in Seoul and the surrounding area! nine0003

Go skiing

Until recently, South Korea was not perceived as a country for winter sports, but the 2018 Olympics changed this opinion. After all, the country has a huge number of world-class resorts.

Most of the ski resorts in South Korea are concentrated in the province of Gangwon-do, where winters are especially snowy.

  • Yongpyong Resort in Pyeongchang is one of the most famous resorts in South Korea, which includes more than 30 slopes for skiers of all skill levels. The longest route of the resort reaches 5600 m. The distance from Seoul to the resort is 215 km, and can be reached in 2 hours by expressway. nine0014
  • Phoenix Park in Pyeongchang is suitable for both inexperienced beginners and experienced skiers. For snowboarders, there is Extreme Park with half-pipe and table-top jumps. From Seoul – no more than two hours drive.
  • Vivaldi Park in Hongcheon offers skiers 12 first-class slopes. Right there, on the territory of the resort, you can visit the Ocean World water park with mineral waters of hot springs. It is generally close to Seoul – less than an hour on the way. nine0014

The slopes around Seoul are also popular. Especially famous resorts are Bears Town (Bears Town Resort) in Pocheon, Star Hill (Star Hill Resort) in Namyangju, Jisan Forest Resort (Jisan Forest Resort) in Icheon and others.

In addition to ski slopes and ski jumps in the resorts of South Korea, you will find SPA centers, walking trails, children’s entertainment and much more.

The skiing season runs from mid-November to March. This year, for the first time, the resorts met skiers on November 15, so the season is already open! nine0003

Or go ice skating

As winter approaches, ice skating rinks open up in different parts of Seoul. This year, the skating rink on Seoul Square will be the first to delight residents and guests of the capital. It will run from December 20 to February 9.

Be sure to ride in the heart of the city, surrounded by tall buildings. We advise you to do this in the evening, when the backlight turns on. Address – st. Sejong-dero 110.

By the way, skate rental is included in the cost of visiting the ice rink. Moreover, you will be given a helmet and knee pads! Ideal for beginners! nine0003

Also, from December 30 to February 2, you can visit the ice rink in the Olympic Park, and from December 20 to early February, the ice rink near the Seoul Express Bus Terminal.

Visit attractions

If you get cold walking around the city, keep in mind that there are many attractions where you can spend an interesting hour or two, and at the same time warm up!

  • Gyeongbokgung Palace – The largest palace in Seoul dates back to 1395. This is exactly the place where you can appreciate the extraordinary beauty of ancient Korea. nine0014
  • Changdeokgung Palace is the next most important palace in Korea, built in 1405. If you want to continue exploring the so-called “Five Grand Palaces” of Seoul, then head to Deoksugung, Changgyeonggung, and Gyeonghuigung.
  • Seoul History Museum – Learn more about the traditional culture and history of Seoul.
  • COEX Mall or Lotte World Mall are the best places to shop! nine0014
  • National Central Museum of Korea – a whole cultural complex with many artifacts of antiquity, as well as sculptures and paintings up to the beginning of the 20th century.
  • Seoul Art Center – we recommend you go to the Hall of Calligraphy and look at the collection of handwritten Chinese characters.
Try Street Food

With the onset of cold weather in Seoul, it’s time for street treats! Merchants with outlandish dishes can be found on the streets and in parks, near the metro and in the markets. nine0003

What to try? Write down:

  • Punoppan – fried fish-shaped sweet pastries made from flour dough with sweet red bean filling (sounds very strange? Must try!)
  • Hoppan are steamed patties with various fillings such as vegetables, pumpkin, red beans
  • Tteokbokki – rice cakes in spicy sauce (very spicy and a little sweet at the same time!)
  • Gkochi omuk – fishmeal cakes in hot broth
  • Hottok is a dessert! Sweet fried cakes with sugar, peanuts or cinnamon – something like pancakes

And, of course, in winter you will find roasted chestnuts and baked sweet potatoes anywhere.

Meet the New Year’s dawn

On the night of December 31 to January 1, the festival of seeing off the old year and seeing the first sunrise of the New Year is held throughout the country.

The most beautiful spots to see the sunrise:

  • Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, Jeju Island
  • Gangjolgot Cape, Ulsan
  • Cape Homigot, Pohang City
  • Jeongdongjin Beach, Gangneung
  • Gyeongpo Beach, Gangneung
  • Hyaniram Temple Yeosu

It is believed that if you make a wish with the first rays of the sun on January 1, it will surely come true. You can do it too!

And visit one of the festivals

Winter festivals are held in different regions of Korea from January to February, where you can get acquainted with the traditional customs of the Korean people. nine0003

  • Hwacheon Trout Festival – will be held from January 4 to 26, 2020. It will delight you with a variety of winter activities – there will be ice fishing for trout with a fishing rod, trout fishing with your hands, sledding on snow and ice, bobsleigh and others.
