Hyatt Resorts Virtual Resort – History PR

Hyatt Resorts has positioned itself as a company providing high quality services in the field of entertainment and recreation. However, by the middle of 90’s leadership faced a number of problems. Firstly, a large number of competitors from tour operators and new cruise companies have appeared. Second, it became apparent that the approach the firm had taken to promote each resort was no longer effective. Thirdly, when analyzing information in the media, marketers are faced with the problem that many either do not have information about the services of Hyatt Resorts, or do not know about its existence at all. The company turned to the KWE agency, in cooperation they had to root the position of the company’s leader among competitors, as well as increase the prestige of Hyatt Resorts.

The goal of the PR campaign was to re-introduce Hyatt Resorts to the media and then to the target audience. A PR campaign was developed in which marketers created a “productive event” to highlight the services and all of the company’s resorts. KWE has come up with a new concept for an interactive event that spans the entire spectrum of services from the Caribbean to the Hawaiian Islands provided by the travel company. This tactic could showcase Hyatt as a creative travel innovator. And any potential tourist could try the company’s service for themselves by visiting simulated resorts without leaving Manhattan.

KWE released a music card announcing the location of the event, but keeping the event secret. Customers were sent a specially crafted toiletries package with enclosed invitations promoting their stay at Hyatt Resorts with overnight stays, two-day programs and activities. According to the program of the interactive event, guests could get acquainted with the services of family vacations, golf, water sports, adventures, etc.

The event took place on a 6,000 sq. feet, on the tennis courts, pools and fitness centers at the UN Plaza Park Hyatt. The PR agency recreated the main features of each of the proposed 17 resorts. The virtual resort journey began with a simulated first-class flight, where passengers were greeted by airline attendants.

Resorts were grouped into four themes: food, drink, leisure activities, hospitality. Guests were invited to learn how to dance hula in Hawaii, play virtual golf or surf, ride an interactive ski simulator, and more. In addition, guests had the opportunity to taste food and drink from the regions illuminated by the resorts. For children, a separate entertainment program was created, with the conditions of various resort features.

One of the highlights of the event was a series of workshops that discussed the latest trends in the travel industry.
