Best Churros in Madrid – Los Artesanos 1902
Churreria Chocolateria Los Artesanos 1902 is the creation of fourth generation Don Gabi, his wife Carmen and their children, who are now considered the fifth generation of “churreros” (churros growers). Thus, for more than a hundred years, the family tradition, the family business, has been going on. This is the wonderful story of a family that has passed down the secret of home-cooking the typical Madrid pastry, the chocolate churros, from generation to generation. At 1902, Don Florencio, Don Gabi’s great-grandfather, opened the doors of a churreria in Ave Maria Street, where he taught his grandson Don Galo, Don Gabi’s father.
So, constantly improving his craft, he began to sell churros and porras on the streets of Madrid. The process of making churros was not easy, you had to create your own delicacies on a stove invented by yourself, coal and wood were used to heat the oil. Over time, their business began to develop, the help of his wife and children had a great influence on the increase in their family business. When the time came, Don Gaby passed on his knowledge to his children and to his wife, Doña Carmen, who taught them to love and share a long family tradition that continues to this day, preserving the old way of making churros and porros with chocolate.

Making churros. In order to heat water in a small saucepan, it was necessary to put it in boiling oil. This hot water was then used to make dough for churros and porros. Looks very dangerous!
