The main square of the capital is decorated with the most beautiful buildings of the National Cathedral and the National Palace. The cathedral was built from 1563 to 1813, thanks to which it combines classicism and baroque. Inside, there is an altar with wooden statues of saints, gilded angels and an abundance of other decorative details in the Churrigueresque style (the Mexican Ultra-Baroque is called the Churriguera family of Spanish architects).
National Palace built in 1792 on the site of the palace of the Aztec emperor Montezuma. Now the building houses the parliament, the official residence of the president and the museum. The palace can be visited with a guided tour for the frescoes of Diego Rivera, dedicated to various subjects of Mexican history.
In the north-west of the square are the ruins of the main temple of the ancient city of Tenochtitlan, on the site of which Mexico City was built – Templo Mayor.

In this indigo-colored house (hence its second official name – “Blue House”) the great Frida Kahlo was born and lived, who became the face and symbol of the country, and today it is located here her museum. Like the Mexican capital, Oaxaca has a main square named after the constitution. It was founded in the 16th century, and its main decoration is the Cathedral, built between 1535 and 1752 on the site of an Aztec necropolis.
It is curious that Christianity came here long before the conquest – the cathedral houses a cross made using a fragment of the wooden cross of Huatulco, brought in the pre-Columbian era by a certain white traveler.
