Love the course

This is a really nice course and with a few improvements it can be great. Views are spectacular, Course is challenging for a 10 handicap, and the employees are great. Need signage improved as it’s confusing

Great course but….

The views on the back 9 are amazing! Hole 9 is a beautiful island hole that is fun. Two canyon drives are challenging and overall the corse is really nice. The but comes from lack of signage from hole to hole. Finding 11 was nearly impossible, from 13-14-15 was a mystery I’ll play the course again when the price comes down. At this price the carts should have gps and the range needs to be marked better

Overpriced

390. 00 green fees! There is no justification for such price. Layout has ocean views from cliffs that are breathtaking ( like the green fees) but the course has lost its luster from years ago. I would play it again if the price dropped to 60-80 dollars.

Beautiful course but…

Course location was absolutely beautiful, but course wasn’t in the best condition. For the price I was caught off guard there wasn’t range balls provided on the practice range, but i was more shocked that the practice balls I purchased separately were worn down water logged balls.

Beautiful course but…..

10 handicapper here, course was beautiful, staff was great. This was the first time I had rented clubs and I probably won’t do it again. The irons were good, Mizuno but the grips were horrible and old. The carts dont have GPS and the course isn’t marked for yardage. Pace of play would be a lot better if the carts had GPS. This course would be a 5 star venue. Course to hard to play without correct yardages.
If it had better yardages I would recommend to a friend. If you have a laser or GPS with you then I would recommend this course

We did eat lunch and burgers were good.
The holes are laid out kind of all over the place, hard to find the next hole.

Island hole was cool.
Shared green was cool, they have a few extra holes on this course that I never understood.
Driving range good
Putting area okay-good
March 2022 no masks

My round at Royal Isabela in Puerto Rico

I played with my son and a friend from Colorado.
The conditions were tougher than we expected, the wind was blowing at approx 25-30 miles per hour and needless to say we had some shots that went from right to left at almost the same rate as the wind.

That was tough enough but what was even harder was trying to find our way around the course as the holes were not easy to find because the y were not marked as to which way to turn in order to stay in sequence. The result was the we spent an additional 20-30 minutes going around looking for the next hole.

We made the best of it laughing at out wind blown shots and really enjoyed the majestic view from various vantage points as the scenery was breathtaking.

Loosing it’s greatness

Maybe in a remote past, this place was awsome and worth the over $100 to play. The greens aren’t greens at all and fairways are blended with the rough.

Disappointing experience

The layout is arguably the most scenic in the Caribbean some of the views rivals Pebble beach
That being said the course is in poor shape tee boxes fairways and greens are unkempt pace of play today was unreasonable slow 6 hours round with no ranger to keep pace of play
Not worth the $150-200 price tag with the present conditions
There are better options at a lesser price

Great Views and Layout, Bad Conditions

The views along the coast and the undulations on fairways and greens make for a beautiful and challenging course. That said, the course was unkempt and the pace of play was atrocious. For $150-$200 per person, the greens and tee boxes are in terrible shape and not having a ranger to maintain pace of play really diminished the experience.

Course
74 Traps BUT THEY need a lot of maintenance. No rakes to be found anywhere?

Some pin locations have NOT been changed in awhile. Some where at least 6” wide from wind and play. LOL

#17 is the best hole on the course yet the area surrounding the green is rough. Clear it out and make this hole what it was meant to be!

Design / layout is very challenging BUT a bit quirky. You don’t need to place a trap or hazard everywhere! I understand the slope rating now. It was manufactured but the terrain is enough to make this course Challenging. .

HOW ABOUT SOME BETTER SIGNAGE FROM HOLE TO HOLE.

SERVICE
We tried to play two days before but Pro Shop attendant kept telling us it was cart path only. We took the chance and went anyway and the gentleman told us the course had NO such rules. LOL.

Service at the turn was slow because they had only person tending to players and resort guests. It took us at least 20 minutes to buy and load up.

Place some water on the course! Puerto Rico is warm and players need water! One free water bottle is not enough.

Overall
For the $100+ we spent, this course needs a little more care. Compared to the other high end courses in Puerto Rico, this course rates #5 in my book. Only because of the layout is it worth playing again. Otherwise value falls short.

Royal Isabela (Isabela, Puerto Rico)

Golf Course Review by: Billy Satterfield

Rankings:  1st

The Takeaway:  Royal Isabela has the best piece of property for golf on the island of Puerto Rico bar none. However, while the course boasts several unique features and beautiful back nine views, I found it frustrating to play from the tips with the tiny tee boxes, an overdone number of blind shots, tight playing corridors, small greens, overly penal results when missing the fairway, and below average conditioning for a course of this stature. For Royal Isabella to become an elite Caribbean destination, the ownership will need to see an increase of funds from joining members so that the development can be completed, conditioning standards raised, and tweaks made to the layout.  Grade B+

What to Expect:  Located on the rocky cliffs above the ocean on Puerto Rico’s north shore near the west end of the island, Royal Isabela enjoys one of the most inspiring properties and stories in the Caribbean islands. Brothers, Stanley and Charlie Pasarell, purchased the property with the idea of fulfilling a dream and developing an elite golf course with residential properties. A major philosophy among the principals is the preservation of nature as much as possible which is great most of the time but unfortunately leads to instances where the playing corridors aren’t sufficient and too many blind shots result. From the white tees the course is substantially better than it is from the tips where trees, branches, and overgrowth impede play due to the odd placement and tiny size of the tee boxes. The outward nine is tight and very penal while affording views of the ocean from just two of the holes. The inward nine is comparable to the property found at Bandon Dunes where ocean cliffs, gorgeous views, and Irish styling dominates the personality. A double green is found on the back nine where the 12th and 14th holes share a putting surface and represents one of the most beautiful locations on the property. The greens throughout the property are rather small and missed shots highly penalized throughout the layout so you need to be on your ‘A’ game from start to finish. While the conditioning was reportedly fantastic in Royal Isabela’s early years, the lack of positive cash flow is clearly taking its toll with the rough being riddled with weeds while the drying fairways and greens are being maintained to a pedestrian standard. Caddies are required at Royal Isabela, a necessary feature at a course with no tee markers and several blind shots, and will cost you $90 for every two players. The caddie will ride in his own cart and have a flag he carries that will signal the result of your shot; white is a ball sitting in the fairway, red means the ball is out of play, and shaking the double-ended flagstick side to side means the caddie can’t tell for sure if the ball managed to stay in play. Overall I enjoyed Royal Isabela and the staff couldn’t be better, but the course itself didn’t meet my lofty expectations.

Individual Hole Analysis

Signature Hole:  12th Hole – 435 Yard Par 4 – The most exciting swing you’ll take with your driver at Royal Isabela is from the tee box of this coastal coast four. With the Pacific Ocean crashing in from the right, this dogleg right provides a dramatic setting that climbs uphill to a double green located on a bluff overlooking the water. From the tee this hole has a similar look to Pacific Dunes’ famous 4th but the greensite couldn’t be more different. The putting surface boomerangs around a pair of bunkers with the lower right side of the green creating a small plateau that the pin is often located in.

12th Hole at Royal Isabela (435 Yard Par 4)

12th Hole at Royal Isabela (435 Yard Par 4)

12th Hole at Royal Isabela (435 Yard Par 4)

Best Par 3:  17th Hole – 200 Yards – If this isn’t the prettiest hole in the Caribbean then I’m dying to see what is! Royal Isabela’s stunning par three 17th boasts Puerto Rico’s rocky and dramatic north shore on the player’s left while with crashing waves creating a phenomenal setting for a golf hole. The bail out area to the right provides a slightly elevated look down to the green that can be obscured by the mature tree shadowing the area. There is something inherently alluring to the ocean, and playing the world’s best game along its shores has no equal.

17th Hole at Royal Isabela (200 Yard Par 3)

Best Par 4:  3rd Hole – 375 Yards – There are a variety of blind shots players contend with when playing from Royal Isabela’s tips, but the dramatic second shot at #3 is what makes the blind tee shot here worthwhile. Players come from out of the trees to a rise in the fairway before they discover a severely downhill tee shot to a green surrounded by forest. A hill on the right side will help feed balls onto the putting surface while missing long or left will result in a lost ball.

3rd Hole at Royal Isabela (375 Yard Par 4)

3rd Hole at Royal Isabela (375 Yard Par 4)

Best Par 5:  10th Hole – 578 Yards – The opening hole on the back nine provides one of the most unique and intriguing designs on Puerto Rico. The hole is shaped nearly like a fishing hook but more accurately like the letter ‘L’ with the end of the hole running completely perpendicular to the beginning of the hole. Two sentinel trees frame aiming area and a pond lies in wait on the left side of the dogleg for those looking to cut some yardage off the hole. Players that take their tee shot up the left side will be left with the opportunity to take a long iron or hybrid club over the trees protecting the left side of the green and possibility setup an eagle putt or an great birdie opportunity. Players taking the long route to the right will set themselves up for a third short to the most receptive opening to the green. With a variety of wind conditions that can come rolling off the ocean, how you play this hole can change every day.

10th Hole at Royal Isabela (578 Yard Par 5)

Birdie Time:  1st Hole – 525 Yard Par 5 – The opening hole is kind to your scorecard at Royal Isabela with this reachable par five. A pond rests in the distance up the left side but shouldn’t a a consideration given how wide the fairway is and how the smart play up the right side shortens the hole anyway. Approach shots should favor the right side of the green which features a hill that moves balls back towards the center of the green. Even without a warmup this should be an easy par and a great chance for a birdie.

1st Hole at Royal Isabela (525 Yard Par 5)

1st Hole at Royal Isabela (525 Yard Par 5)

Bogey Beware:  6th Hole – 493 Yard Par 4 – This hole is a flat out brute. The tee shot plays over a pond to an undulated fairway where level lies are virtually non-existent. At nearly 500 yards from the tips and a good climb uphill the entire way home, reaching this green in regulation is a rare accomplishment. Patches of rock overgrown with vegetation and bunkering adds to the challenge, but flat out length will be the biggest obstacle to overcome to score well here. With the wind often blowing and the uphill climb requiring an extra club or two, #6 will require the best second shot of the round to walk away from here with anything but a bogey.

Royal Golf Club Marianske Lazne

Places of Prague

Golf is becoming a very popular game in the Czech Republic. If earlier only some citizens were fond of it, now it is becoming, if not a general, then a hobby shared by many. More and more new golf clubs and sports centers are opening, specializing in golf. But the Marianske Lazne golf club, proudly bearing the title of “royal”, is rightfully proud of its origin and history. nine0003

It was opened in 1905, and the opening ceremony was attended by a royal person, namely, the English King Edward VII himself. He also joined the club, along with the British ambassador in Vienna. Such an example could not be ignored by the beau monde, and many high-ranking persons from Europe and even America joined the club.

The famous guests of the club include such extraordinary personalities as Rudyard Kipling, Henry Cotton, David Lloyd George and Arthur Lees.

But the formal right to be called “royal” golf club Marianske Lazne received not soon, in 1923, at the behest of the English Queen Elizabeth II.

The golf club was built using the latest achievements in the architecture of similar objects in Ireland and Scotland, from the late 19th century, and we can name the name of a golf enthusiast, Robert Doig, from the Scottish city of Musselburgh, who took an active part in the creation of the Marianske Lazne golf club .

Over time, the club’s fields have improved and become more complex, 9holes grew to 18 in 1923, when the club’s popularity was at its peak.

At present, the popularity of the club is not falling, and the number of members is about 589 people, among which are many famous professionals and legends not only of the Czech national golf, but also on an international scale.

The field itself, the oldest in the Czech Republic, is maintained in an exemplary manner, clearly delineated, the grassy lawn is cut short. At first glance, the game should not present any difficulties, everything seems quite simple and uncomplicated, but during the game, massive hidden obstacles and problems are suddenly discovered, overcoming which requires clarity, composure and good command of technology. nine0003

The golf course is surrounded by a pine forest, and this neighborhood provides cool and clean air in any hot weather. If you take a look around the surroundings, then the eye freely penetrates to the horizon, not meeting anything bulky and heavy, but only resting on the individual details of the picturesque landscapes of bucolic content.

As for modern amenities for club members, they are fully met, there is a restaurant “Royal Golf”, other support services. All kinds of social events, including corporate ones, are periodically held on the territory of the golf club. nine0003

How to get there?

Address: Mariánske Lázne 582, 35301, Mariánske Lázne, Czech Republic. Website: www.golfml.cz

Mariánske Lázne is a 2-hour drive from Prague. This is approximately 170 km. There is a hotel very close to the golf club, so you can stay there for a while.
