Royal isabela golf course: Golf Isabela Puerto Rico | Royal Isabela Puerto Rico – Golf
Royal Isabela (Isabela, Puerto Rico)
Golf Course Review by: Billy Satterfield
The Takeaway: Royal Isabela has the best piece of property for golf on the island of Puerto Rico bar none. However, while the course boasts several unique features and beautiful back nine views, I found it frustrating to play from the tips with the tiny tee boxes, an overdone number of blind shots, tight playing corridors, small greens, overly penal results when missing the fairway, and below average conditioning for a course of this stature. For Royal Isabella to become an elite Caribbean destination, the ownership will need to see an increase of funds from joining members so that the development can be completed, conditioning standards raised, and tweaks made to the layout. Grade B+

What to Expect: Located on the rocky cliffs above the ocean on Puerto Rico’s north shore near the west end of the island, Royal Isabela enjoys one of the most inspiring properties and stories in the Caribbean islands. Brothers, Stanley and Charlie Pasarell, purchased the property with the idea of fulfilling a dream and developing an elite golf course with residential properties. A major philosophy among the principals is the preservation of nature as much as possible which is great most of the time but unfortunately leads to instances where the playing corridors aren’t sufficient and too many blind shots result. From the white tees the course is substantially better than it is from the tips where trees, branches, and overgrowth impede play due to the odd placement and tiny size of the tee boxes. The outward nine is tight and very penal while affording views of the ocean from just two of the holes. The inward nine is comparable to the property found at Bandon Dunes where ocean cliffs, gorgeous views, and Irish styling dominates the personality. A double green is found on the back nine where the 12th and 14th holes share a putting surface and represents one of the most beautiful locations on the property. The greens throughout the property are rather small and missed shots highly penalized throughout the layout so you need to be on your ‘A’ game from start to finish. While the conditioning was reportedly fantastic in Royal Isabela’s early years, the lack of positive cash flow is clearly taking its toll with the rough being riddled with weeds while the drying fairways and greens are being maintained to a pedestrian standard. Caddies are required at Royal Isabela, a necessary feature at a course with no tee markers and several blind shots, and will cost you $90 for every two players. The caddie will ride in his own cart and have a flag he carries that will signal the result of your shot; white is a ball sitting in the fairway, red means the ball is out of play, and shaking the double-ended flagstick side to side means the caddie can’t tell for sure if the ball managed to stay in play. Overall I enjoyed Royal Isabela and the staff couldn’t be better, but the course itself didn’t meet my lofty expectations.

Individual Hole Analysis
Signature Hole: 12th Hole – 435 Yard Par 4 – The most exciting swing you’ll take with your driver at Royal Isabela is from the tee box of this coastal coast four. With the Pacific Ocean crashing in from the right, this dogleg right provides a dramatic setting that climbs uphill to a double green located on a bluff overlooking the water. From the tee this hole has a similar look to Pacific Dunes’ famous 4th but the greensite couldn’t be more different. The putting surface boomerangs around a pair of bunkers with the lower right side of the green creating a small plateau that the pin is often located in.

Best Par 3: 17th Hole – 200 Yards – If this isn’t the prettiest hole in the Caribbean then I’m dying to see what is! Royal Isabela’s stunning par three 17th boasts Puerto Rico’s rocky and dramatic north shore on the player’s left while with crashing waves creating a phenomenal setting for a golf hole. The bail out area to the right provides a slightly elevated look down to the green that can be obscured by the mature tree shadowing the area. There is something inherently alluring to the ocean, and playing the world’s best game along its shores has no equal.
17th Hole at Royal Isabela (200 Yard Par 3)
Best Par 4: 3rd Hole – 375 Yards – There are a variety of blind shots players contend with when playing from Royal Isabela’s tips, but the dramatic second shot at #3 is what makes the blind tee shot here worthwhile. Players come from out of the trees to a rise in the fairway before they discover a severely downhill tee shot to a green surrounded by forest. A hill on the right side will help feed balls onto the putting surface while missing long or left will result in a lost ball.
3rd Hole at Royal Isabela (375 Yard Par 4)
3rd Hole at Royal Isabela (375 Yard Par 4)
Best Par 5: 10th Hole – 578 Yards – The opening hole on the back nine provides one of the most unique and intriguing designs on Puerto Rico. The hole is shaped nearly like a fishing hook but more accurately like the letter ‘L’ with the end of the hole running completely perpendicular to the beginning of the hole. Two sentinel trees frame aiming area and a pond lies in wait on the left side of the dogleg for those looking to cut some yardage off the hole. Players that take their tee shot up the left side will be left with the opportunity to take a long iron or hybrid club over the trees protecting the left side of the green and possibility setup an eagle putt or an great birdie opportunity. Players taking the long route to the right will set themselves up for a third short to the most receptive opening to the green. With a variety of wind conditions that can come rolling off the ocean, how you play this hole can change every day.
10th Hole at Royal Isabela (578 Yard Par 5)
Birdie Time: 1st Hole – 525 Yard Par 5 – The opening hole is kind to your scorecard at Royal Isabela with this reachable par five. A pond rests in the distance up the left side but shouldn’t a a consideration given how wide the fairway is and how the smart play up the right side shortens the hole anyway. Approach shots should favor the right side of the green which features a hill that moves balls back towards the center of the green. Even without a warmup this should be an easy par and a great chance for a birdie.
1st Hole at Royal Isabela (525 Yard Par 5)
1st Hole at Royal Isabela (525 Yard Par 5)
Bogey Beware: 6th Hole – 493 Yard Par 4 – This hole is a flat out brute. The tee shot plays over a pond to an undulated fairway where level lies are virtually non-existent. At nearly 500 yards from the tips and a good climb uphill the entire way home, reaching this green in regulation is a rare accomplishment. Patches of rock overgrown with vegetation and bunkering adds to the challenge, but flat out length will be the biggest obstacle to overcome to score well here. With the wind often blowing and the uphill climb requiring an extra club or two, #6 will require the best second shot of the round to walk away from here with anything but a bogey.

About Royal Isabela
One of the most dramatic golf courses built in years, the Golf Links at Royal Isabela curls itself along rugged cliffs, providing memorable challenges and marvelous views of the coastline’s meeting with the sea. Brothers Stanley and Charlie Pasarell envisioned and designed the course with great passion for the land and the game. Through a collaboration with architect David W. Pfaff, they brought their vision to breathtaking reality. Created on site, not on paper, the design evolved from the land itself. Their hands-on and minimal-impact approach pays tribute to the Golf Links’ majestic partner: nature.

The landscape’s native grasses, natural sand dunes and deep canyons are integral to the layout, while sod-faced bunkers add a Scottish flair to this island gem. These elements, along with trade winds that are your friend one moment and your foe the next, shape the course’s character and captivate the golf purist. Each hole provides a unique test. I…

With eight lakes scattered across the field, water hazards play a prominent role in the game and smart ball placement is required if you want to get home with a clean card. The field is a challenge even for low handicap players. In 2013, Montgomerie Maxx Royal was delighted to host the first ever Turkish Airlines Open, featuring golf’s biggest stars. If you book a time to play with us, you will have the opportunity to imitate the performances of some of the stars on this wonderful course. As a championship course, you will be forced to bring your game if you want to return home with par 72. Belek / Antalya Montgomery Golf Course Reviewstripadvisor I have just returned having played this wonderful course last week. Everything was perfect, staff on arrival, Pro shop and restaurant for food before playing. Course was in immaculate condition and the holes just seemed to get better and better. Last is a good tough finishing hole. Will definitely play again and would advise anyone looking to book a course, make it this one. tripadvisor The whole experience from arriving at the course to leaving was amazing had 2 rounds at the monty 9 holes of night golf and 18 holes on a Saturday afternoon , the service from the staff was outstanding the course was in immaculate condition well worth the money and when you get to the course food and drink is free in the bar on the course and when you get back in, outstanding 👍 tripadvisor Had the chance to play a couple of weeks ago and I have spent the last two weeks telling people that if they are golfing in Turkey that simply have to play here. The best course I had the chance to play and it was a wonderful test. The only downside was the lack of consideration other golfers gave to repairing their pitch marks. tripadvisor Course was just preparing to Europeantour competition, so backtees were out of use and buggies not availabe. Excellent course architecture and variable holes. good condition. Greenfee on high season is 150€ and it includes food an beverage during and after round. Now played all Belek courses and by far liked this most. In my opinion the best courses are Montgomerie, PGA Sultan and Carya. This region of southern Spain is a real paradise for golfers. 70 out of 437 courses are located here – in this concentration, Spanish golf tourism is the leader in Europe. And among all the areas of the Costa del Sol, Marbella, with its 21 golf courses and stunning properties near the golf courses, is the center of attraction for lovers of this game. 85% of tourists annually visit Marbella just for the opportunity to enjoy the game and the highest level of service at golf resorts. In this article, we will explain the reasons for such popularity, as well as an overview of the best golf clubs in Marbella. A brief history of golf on the Costa del SolThe first Spanish golf course was the Real Club de Golf de las Palmas in Gran Canaria, which was founded in 1891. In Malaga, the first golf courses began to be built in the 1920s. Then this game was the main summer entertainment for the British royal family, who regularly spent their holidays at local resorts. In fact, the first “designer” of the golf course in Malaga was the daughter of Queen Victoria and the great-grandmother of the Spanish King Felipe – Beatrice de Battenberg. She designed a small 9-hole course, on the site of which, in 1925, the first in Marbella and one of the most prestigious golf clubs, Parador del Golf, opened. The fame of the best golf destination in Spain came to the Costa del Sol in the late 1950s and early 1960s. At this time, the region was discovered by world celebrities and representatives of the European high society, many of whom were excellent players. To meet the steadily growing demand from wealthy tourists, the area has been actively developed with premium golf courses. The first golf course in Marbella was the Guadalmina Club de Golf, which appeared in 1959 in the western part of the resort. In 1965, Rio Real Golf was opened in the east of the city. In 1968, Atalaya Golf was opened here, and in 1969, Las Brisas. The world’s best designers worked on the Marbella golf courses:
The design of these masters was the meticulous attention to every detail of the golf course. For example, they used game-resistant grass varieties and uniform automatic watering. Each golf course in Marbella is perfectly integrated into the surrounding landscape in order to maintain harmony with the environment. For example, the 18-hole Rio Real follows the natural curves of the Rio Real on whose banks it sits. 6 reasons why golf is so popular in Marbella

Atalaya Golf was opened in Benahavis between Marbella and Estepona in 1990. Designer Paul Krings designed the course to look like a cozy park with gently curving fairways and manicured lawns, cool fountains and dense thickets of eucalyptus, palm trees and azaleas. Atalaya New Course has been chosen by experienced golfers from the very beginning of the course because of the narrow fairways and the abundance of water obstacles. Atalaya Golf offers guests a restaurant with excellent local cuisine. During the game, you can have a snack in two kiosks with fresh pastries and fruit juices. Green fee 18 holes
