We are proud of our culinary heritage in Umbria and here at the San Lorenzo we try our very best to uphold the traditional recipes and cooking techniques in the creation of our ever changing menu. The family run San Lorenzo restaurant – located inside the Hotel Clitunno – has been run by the Tomassoni family for 3 generations. Extremely popular with everyone from hotel guests, locals and international tourists we suggest that you book your table early in order to avoid disappointment. Our speciality dishes are follow a seafood theme and indeed the menu is very rich in fish dishes and seafood favourites… if you are unsure what to order why not try our degustation menu or “tasting menu” where you can try a little bit of several dishes.
The ambience is a light- filled dining room and shared comunal terrace with the hotel which looks out onto the square. Our chef is constantly changing the menu in order to provide a gastronomic experience which changes according to the seasons and which produce is most appropriate… you can find traditional Umbrian dishes served together with other not so menu stream choices … authentic Umbrian dishes served with a contemporary twist.
The Chef
Owner and Chef Giovanna Tomassoni has been a top chef for over 30 years…. Regularly invited to the USA for the Umbrian Food Festival Giovanna’s claim to fame was that she made Michelle Obama her favourite dish – “Strangozzi alla Carbonara” which was made with quail eggs, artichokes and truffle. This event occurred in the “La Spiaggia” restaurant in Chicago (Michelle Obama’s favourite Italian restaurant)… Every year she visits the USA to partecipate and promote Umbrian cuisine in the Spoleto Umbria USA food festival which is held in various locations throughout America.
The American gourmet magazine The Local Palate (www.thelocalpalate.com) asked Giovanna to represent Umbria and Spoleto for the gastronomic event “Toast to Spoleto” in Charleston in the beautiful state of Southern Carolina. The event was hosted by Giulio and Donatella Della Porta owners of the the hidden countrship in Charleston which promotes great food in both Charleston and in Umbria… this mutual food love affair can only benefit both regions and represents a wonderful opportunity for cross country culinary experiences.
Giovanna is now has her attention clearly focused on the San Lorenzo restaurant here in Spoleto but feel free to ask her anything you like about the dishes and Umbrian cuisine on offer.

Led by husband and wife teams Derry and Sally-Anne Clark, L’Ecrivain takes the classic French gastronomic experience to the next level with 6-course and 10-course menus and even a special menu for vegetarians. Their Sommeli re has also been awarded Best Sommeli re and L’Ecrivain works with several small family owned producers to make the wine menu consistent and exclusive. For those looking for a private meal, there are two rooms that can accommodate up to twenty people. Perfect for a business group or large parties.

The Greenhouse heralded a new wave of fine dining in Dublin that opened its doors just a year ago. run by hugely successful chef/restaurateur Eamonn O’Reilly. The aim of this establishment is to offer you a “memorable gastronomic experience” and the lavish menus and settings help to create a lasting impression. Both tasting menus and set menus also offer good value given the level of experience that comes with these meals. Chef Mikael Viljanen once brought those everywhere to his previous restaurant in the West of Ireland, so take the opportunity to enjoy his craft in the capital.

Expect the level of quality to match the prices, but you won’t be disappointed, this is by far the most essential Dublin dining experience. His signature dish is lobster with Italian stracchino cheese and passion fruit. A couple more compliments from the chef rely on the menu. But all portions are “Michelin”, that is, small, so do not be afraid of overeating. For lunch, you can choose a light three-course option for 75 EUR.
Newly Michelin-starred in 2022, Aroma (off site) at the Palazzo Manfredi is one of the most romantic restaurants in Rome with stunning views of the Colosseum. Perhaps this is the best place for those who are going to propose to the chosen one a hand and a heart. 7-course tasting menu – 150/240 EUR (without wine / with a glass of wine for each dish).
Acquolina Hostaria in Roma is a very popular one-star restaurant specializing in classic and innovative fish and seafood dishes (Via Antonio Serra, 60). It has a beautiful elegant interior, a spacious terrace, an excellent selection of wines, and a relaxed atmosphere. Tasting set – 75-95 EUR (without alcohol). However, it is worth coming here at least for the carbonara di mare pasta, the best in Rome.
